Excellent Game. The graphics are totally awesome and realism beyond comprehension. Diffently worth the $$$. Stunt mode is great which allows the user to perform free style jumps, flips, and tricks. A must have for your N64 collection.

Great fun!

Wave Race 64 is an exceptional title for those of us burned out on shoot-em-ups. It offers excellent graphics and sound with great realism and humor. The race locations range from tropical islands to freshwater lakes to artic ice. The music (unique for each location) varies from new age and R&B all the way to some pretty outrageous 70's progressive rock. Different play levels are challenging, yet not overwhelming. The stunt mode is great fun, and the two-player mode is great for spouses, since players can choose (and personalize, with name) both male and female racers. This title, along with Beetle Adventure Racing, are always popular when friends come over to our house. Sometimes we even let the kids play. Wave Race 64 proves that a video game can be challenging and exciting without violence.

Good, but not flawless

When I first got a Nintendo 64, I couldn't wait to rent Wave Race 64. When I finally played it, I didn't think it was as good as I thought it was gonna be. Graphically, it couldn't have been any better. It takes awhile to get used to some of the touchy controls, but you'll get the hang of it as you play it more. It is a lot of fun because you can play racing modes, go through rings, and there's also a stunt mode included. The multiplayer mode is also fun, but not as fun as some of the other Nintendo 64 racers.

The main thing I didn't like about the game was its sound, that's the only real weak point of Wave Race 64. It has the most annoying announcer I've ever heard in any game. All the announcer does is say ok, cool, and some other one-liners over and over, and it made me want to mute the television. However, if you like good racing games, Wave Race 64 would be a pretty good game to get.

This is THE game that sold me on the N64 system!

A total adrenaline rush! The control and physics are incredible. The graphics and sound are a superb treat! This is the first game I purchased for the N64 and is still my favorite...even after years of playing this game I have managed to find ways to set new course records! I've played the PSN Jet Motos (yawn), but Wave Race 64 RULES! PLEASE, Nintendo, make a sequel that will blow even this great game out of the water!

A classic!!!

I remember the first time I saw this game... What a beautiful memory. Even though the Nintendo 64 turned out to kinda bust, it was my transition from 2d to 3d games. My first experiences with 3d were with Mario 64. I first played Nintendo 64 at a friend's house, and Wave Race 64 was one of the first games I played. My jaw was hanging for about a half hour. The first thing I saw was Dolphin Park - swimming dolphins, fish, "splashy" sounding music, backflips, barrel rolls, and BEAUTIFUL water. It was too much! What a surreal experience! After I got back up from fainting, my friend and I played this game for HOURS and HOURS and HOURS and HOURS. We would go to Southern Island and tried to find what we could ramp over, go under, and crash into. It sounds pathetic, but I've had some of the best times of my life playing Wave Race 64 with friends.

I never actually bought the game. I was around 11 or 12 at the time, and $60 was hard to come up with. But boy, we would rent it and made use of the WHOLE 72 hours we had it. I'm 20 years old now, and being frustrated with today's gaming experience, I decided to take a trip down memory lane and finally buy Wave Race 64. I hoped to experience some of the joy I did so many years ago. I found it for $2.75 on ebay. It's still a great game, but it was a little sad to play it again - to see the out-dated graphics and all. I beat all the circuit classes in no time. Also, the guys I used to play it with aren't around anymore. Makes me yearn for the good ol' days. :*(

But I'll quit sobbing. This game is without a doubt a classic. It is one of the best racing games of ALL TIME. DO NOT DISAGREE WITH ME.

Great game, it's just not for me.

Okay. So back in 1996, the Nintendo already had Super Mario 64. The addition of the critically acclaimed Wave Race 64 made the Nintendo 64 even more promising over the then-somewhat-struggling PlayStation. Although it may be largely forgotten now after the relative failure of Wave Race: Blue Storm, Wave Race 64 opened to critical raves and is still a cornerstone of Nintendo 64 nostalgia for gamers.

But you know what? I think Wave Race 64 isn't really that fun! Is it a good game? Sure, it's a wonderful game when you talk about the technology relative to the time period. I mean, the graphics are phenomenal for 1996. The water is very nice, and so are the effects. The music is great. It has that soft jazz feel that appeals to people that don't work in IGN. The sound effects are pretty good, such as the "blub" sound when you hit a buoy. Heh. Blub. Blub. Blub. The announcer is just as annoying as the guy in Pokemon Stadium, but having that many voice samples in a game is something not even Super Mario 64 achieved. The guy just needs to tone down his enthusiasm. It sounds terribly hokey. And yeah. The game's physics are good, what with the waves and the water and stuff.

But you know? Aesop was right. If you are unable to succeed in something, then you are more likely to pass it off as irrelevant, or not worth it. The same thing applies for video games, and it is something I had discussed in many earlier takes. Games in which an individual sucks at are more likely to be labeled "not fun" by that individual. Well, guess what? I SUCK at Wave Race 64. I have never been able to get used to the wave physics, and I never remember specific controls. I do well enough in Normal mode, but every other mode pwns me. I was never into jet-skiing games anyways, so I am more apt to become discouraged, and I say that the game is not fun. It's a vicious cycle, and apparently the game is the victim. Oh well. I have other things to complain about. I can't do stunts, so I don't like stunt mode. (Gee. What a surprise.) And this game would have been PERFECT if it had 4-player mode.

Great Game

Wave Race 64 is one of the best racing games I have played on the nintendo 64. Realistic waves and courses really "put" me in the game. A must buy!

This is a great game! It was my first game for the N64 and although it's some time back now (2 1/2 yrs), I still find it brilliant! I would really recommend this game to anyone as it is not only great fun, but also quite simple to play. When you've played for some time you can also start trying to beat the different levels and get on to new courses! The practice mode is also great, you'll get the chance to practice and do amazing tricks. This game just won't bore you! A MUST for the N64 fan!

Very fun and realistic

Wave Race 64. One of Nintendo's first game. Updated from v1.1. Wow. Amazing. This game is fun. OK! Game over!
Wave Race 64 is a great game. You get 8 courses, 4 players, create your custom jet ski, go into a championship, play againts your best friend.... and it's over. Wave Race is nothing special. I can't kill it too hard because it was one of the first games, but it's just too short. You can only have 2 players max. Only 1 player Championship which is 4 EASY tracks. The custom made boards arn't really custom, you just choose between 3 factors, and you can do 3 tricks! (Which, during racing, give you no bonus except if you don't complete the trick, making you fall in the water and get behind) This game get's old within 1 hour. It is not worth the price, I can guarrantee you.
