I never played a Tetris-like game before. When I played it @ E3 (Game convention) I was so addicted to it I played until they made me leave (I returned the day after & the day after that). I will definitely preorder this game. In short, the gameplay is similar to Tetris, there are 2 modes: 2D & 3D. 3D mode is much more challenging in that the block structure spins 360 degrees so you have to be really quick. You can choose to be Team Rocket or Ash Ketchum & can choose 1 of 3 Pokemon available for each team. In battling against another player you can devastate him/her by getting combo plays & that will drop a big slab of concrete on their screen. I personally enjoy 3D more.

Most Addictive Version Of Tetris That I Have Ever Played

Pokemon Puzzle League is so addictive i havent been able to stop playing on it. The game play is the same as Tetris Attack but with the appeal of pokemon, so the two combined are a winning combination. When you play against the computer you are playing against Pokemon trainers and once you have beat one you progress to the next. The fun isnt there though, the fun is beating your friends and you parents, as everyone is going to want to play this game.So you are going to have to make sure that you are the best to make sure that you get a game. Although this is a compleate copy of "Tetris Attack" I found this a game worth playing one the N64! For a while now we've gotten nothing but flunk Pokemon games on the N64 (Pokemon Stadium anyone?), but this game makes up for it! With witty puzzles, two player fun, and no choppy 3D graphics make this a must! I'm still convinced that Pokemon was the only way to get people to buy this game, but who cares? At least it's fun!

Red, Blue, Yellow, TGC, Pinball, Stadium, Snap. How many pokémon games can one player have? Well if your choice is limited, you should definitely make room for this smash hit. Pokémon Puzzle League is the next installment in the poképhenomenon, but you should be warned that it bears about as much resemblance to pokémon battles as the latest FIFA game.

That's not necessarily a bad thing though. If you're an avid gamer, you'll have probably found out by now that PPL is based on the excellent puzzle game, Tetris Attack. For those of you who've played it, you'll have probably discovered how amazingly entertaining and addictive it is. If you've never heard of it, Tetris Attack is a wonderfully playable game that bears no more resemblance to Tetris than the name. The idea is simple: Blocks of various colours rise from the floor and it's your task to get rid of them. You continuously switch blocks around the screen to try and match three or more of the same colour at which point they disappear and the blocks above fall down. Of course, in the event that the rising blocks should reach the top of the screen, it's Game Over for you, mate!

The strategies are much, MUCH more complex than Tetris and the game is infinitely more playable. Tetris Attack is to Tetris what Chess is to Snakes and Ladders. Like Chess, it's often the player who can see the most moves in advance who wins. Unlike Chess, there's a lot of emphasis on speed too and you'll be dripping with sweat as you try to prevent the mountain of blocks from reaching the top of the screen.

Like all the great puzzle games, PPL is deceptively simple to get into, but astonishingly tough to master. Clearing four blocks at once is not all that hard to do, but pulling off multiple combos requires all the brainpower of three supercomputers. That's no easy task when you have an opponent continuously dumping blocks on your screen. The computer AI shows an astonishing level of intelligence and can execute tricks that humans can only dream of. PPL also gives us our first definitive look at Ash on a game (unlike that masked gray haired individual in Stadium) and it also features Ricky: an obscure trainer from the cartoon who befriends Ash at the championships. So at least you know you're not fighting alone against the onslaught of blocks.

In the end, you know that the pokémon license alone will sell this game by the millions. Thankfully, it's actually worth all the hype.

Tetris Attack in *almost* every way

Wow! This game is exactly like Tetris Attack. (a super nintendo game released a few years ago) And that was REALLY addicting! This time, though, it's all about pokémon. It has lot's of pictures from the show appearing as backgrounds and the intro scene is just like the beginning of the Kid's WB tv show! If you played tetris Attack, you'll really like this game. even if you don't like pokémon, there is a new version of gameplay with a 3-D cylindrical game wall. This game is really fun!

Just when I thought there were no good puzzle games for my soon-to-be-antique N64, I broke down and bought Pokemon Puzzle League, because the box made it look like a decent variation on Tetris. I know almost nothing about Pokemon, and at first I got scared that I would have to learn a bunch of mindless information like names of creatures and spells and tricks and whatnot. And the game has a lot of the Pokemon theme; various dialogues talk about the trainers and monsters and other confusing stuff that would make perfect sense to a seven year old kid.

Luckily, this has nothing to do with the game itself. Basically, you have a variation of tetris where you need to connect three or more blocks of the same color, either across or up and down. You can move a cursor and swap two blocks that are next to each other. And an empty block causes all of the ones above it to "fall" into place. Pretty simple stuff, and there's a practice mode, plus a few simple and slow modes, but then the pace picks up, and the blocks accumulate from underneath, eventually making the pile collide with the ceiling, ending the game.

There are a few twists to keep the game interesting; there's a two-player mode where you can add junk to your opponent's screen by completing lines. There's also a 3-D mode where the blocks are "in the round", making it very hard to keep track of all of the new blocks while removing old ones. The whole think is thematically linked to a Pokemon map, with the games in a stadium, the practice stuff in a university, and so on.

The play on this game is excellent, with smooth controls and good sound effects. I quickly became addicted to this game, trying to push my score just a bit higher with each try, but the theme music drives me nuts. The only reason I am not giving this game five stars is that I had to stop playing and get the music out of my head. Otherwise, this is an excellent puzzle game - one of the funnest implementations of Tetris I've ever played.

This puzzle game is so much fun and has great grafics! Even if your not a Pokemon fan you'll love this game. I got this for a Christmas present and I always play with it. I'm 13 and it's even hard for me sometimes. You could play against the computer or with a friend.

One of the best games I've played!

I enjoy puzzle games and I love Pokemon, so I first rented this game to try it. Little did I know, Pokemon Puzzle League would be one of the greatest games I've played!I was pleased right after I put it in my Nintendo, since a MIDI version of the first season "Pokemon Theme" was playing. As I went through the game, all the songs off 2.B.A. Master (except for "Misty's Song"), plus "Pokemon World" and Angela Via's "Catch Me If You Can" from the "First Movie" were used as background music. The game itself is really awesome! My favorite part is Spa Service. It's challenging yet fun!

CHEAP VERSION OF TETRIS ATTACK

This game is just like Tetris Attack. It's pretty fun, but why get it when you can get Tetris Attack fsr Super Nintendo or Game Boy far a lot cheaper. If this didn't have the Pokemon Licence, it would draw no attention

An addicting puzzle game with a Pokémon theme.

Pokémon seems to have taken over the world. Just when you thought they have run their course, Pokémon comes out again with a new, and this time entirely different genre of game. We have seen the RPG, Collectible Card Game, Tournament Fighter, and now puzzle genre. What's next?

Pokémon Puzzle League is like Tetris, but more akin to Dr. Mario in that you must match up colors or symbols to create chains and combos by clearing lines. Another difference that PPL has over the other classic games is the scrolling up of entire rows instead of the falling bricks or pills. This innovation makes the game much more intense and maniacal the faster the wall builds. Soon you will be in a trance as you find yourself clearing lines faster than the wall can build, a truly wonderful feeling.

With all this intense action comes the mystical world of Pokémon. Depending on the trainer you choose, you get the choice of 3 different Pokémon. The Pokémon serve no purpose but as background wallpaper or in a 2-player game, a tally of sorts, they are nice to have around. Since you do have to stare at these saccharin sweet pictures throughout your game experience, it would help to be a fan of the series.

One complaint I do have about the game is that once I start, I can't stop playing. Like Tetris it will keep you occupied for long periods of time, the result being visions of chains and combos long after you stop playing. And don't even think about trying to go to sleep without seeing or playing imaginary games of it. Definitely worth your time if you are a puzzle fan, a great game to get you started in gaming. You'll realize just how much strategy and excellent eye-hand coordination is need to play these and other genres of games.
