I have been playing ToonTown Online for close to 2 years now. A co-worker got me hooked on it after her child got her hooked on it after seeing a commerical for it on The Disney Channel. Yes, it is an online game (hence the name ToonTown Online) and it very specifically indicates on the packaging that a recurring fee is necessary to play it after the initial 2 month game time has expired. The game is downloadable from the ToonTown website and the retail version is NOT a necessity to have. The game is a HUGE download and the CD is great to have if you have dial-up internet access like I do.
As for play value, it is great. I have 2 active toons (you can have 6) on my account that I play on a regular basis. Yes, it is geared towards kids but many of the players I encounter are adults that were hooked by their children. It is safe for kids as there are pre-made phrases that you use for your toon to communicate with other toons. There is the option for real-life players to "code" with each other so they can speak freely with each other. Even with the free speech being available, it is heavily filtered for bad language. I have tested many different "bad" words in various spellings and even inserted spaces and other characters to attempt to get it to let it come across but it won't. Kudos to Disney for being proactive in anticipating what lengths some people will go to spoil kid fun.
The concept of the game is not different than any other MMOG like EverQuest, Final Fantasy etc. You are given quests to complete for jellybeans (money), gags (weapons) and laff boosts (strength). The only difference is that this game is designed for children.
It is well worth the $10 a month and the game is always expanding. Since I have been playing there have been 2 major updates and a 3rd is scheduled for sometime in April or May, giving toons an additional neighborhood/Cog HQ to play in with new tasks and rewards.
Happy Tooning.
Great game for kids and family

This is defintilly a fun game who cares if you have to pay $10:00 a month it's worth it. Toontown is a great online game whare you create your owen toon and then go do toontask to upgrade you toons. The newset toon to toontown is Bear who got choosen by the toons to beacome the new toon species. I wanted Pig to win. But it's not all fun and games beacuse evil robots called cogs are attacking toontown and it's up to you to stop them. The only way to deafeat them is to use gags like pies, marbels, pianos, thunder clouds etc. It's also 100% safe and your toons can't chat with other toons but thare is a speed chat to say safe things. You can chat with toons you know in real life by giveing you friend a code and then entering it. But watch out for any toontown fan sites. On these site you uselly got to chat rooms and ask pepole that you don't know to beacome your secret friends or join a club and chat about things you like about toontown. These sites are not made by disney so they are not 100% safe makeing toontown a little unsafe. Anyway the newset place in toontown is Goffy Speedway whare you go and buy cars and then race agenist other toons just in december goffy speedway got updated and got 3 new corses and on mondays. You can go thare and go in special races. Toontown also always throws contest to win prizes but uselly the players that play all day win them but not always. Thare is also a top toons board whare it shows the top players of everyday. Toontown is a super fun game for you kids and family this is a number 1 game and even got the award for best game of 2003. I hope you buy toontown too.

My daughter bought this with her allowance money and we thought it was like any other prepackaged software that you can play on your computer. However, you can only play it for 2 months (it comes with a code to use on-line that is only valid for 2 months) then you have to pay a monthly fee of $9.95. This is ridiculously expensive and not at all documented in the product description. Very misleading. Don't buy it unless you can afford the monthly fee!

Hi. I have this game and it's SO fun! Here is a list of things you can do on ToonTown.
1. Make your very own toon. Make up to 6 of them!
2. Make friends! Everyone on ToonTown is so nice! You can chat with your friends, but it won't let you say any bad things.
3. Play games on the trolley! Win jellybeans! (jellybeans are known as 'money' on ToonTown.)
4. Do Awesome Toontasks! And if you complete the tasks, you win cool stuff! (not real life things, only items on ToonTown, such as laffboosts. Laffboosts help you get stronger.)
5. Beat those cogs! Cogs are big weird looking robots that are trying to take over the world of ToonTown. They can't take a joke, so the people of ToonTown make pranks on them!
6. Race! You can race your friends. You buy your own car just how you want it, and then you go to the racing area and begin the race!
7. Make your own house! You can design your house, buy furniture using the phone in the house, and you can even make your own garden.
8. Fish! You can fish for strange creatures. There are puppy dog fish, cat fish, (the cat fish have faces like cats!) nurse sharks (which are dressed like nurses) Clown fish (i think you know what they look like) and much more! Then go sell the fish for jellybeans!
9. Adopt a Doodle! A Doodle is a pet that looks kind of like a dog. They come in different colors, shapes, and sizes. Take one home, feed it, play with it, and love it. They help you in battle if you call for them!
10. Enter Contests! You can enter contests like Fishing contests and win THE BEST prizes EVER.
11. Buy clothes! You can buy super cute clothes for your toon.
12. ToonTown is always decorated for holidays, and they get new items that are like the holiday. (say it's halloween, there would be stores with pumpkins, scary wall paper, etc.) Never want to miss it!
13. Completely safe. You don't have to worry about anything, Moms and Dads.
14. But the only bad thing is the screen is SO bright it starts to hurt your eyes....
15. Change the view of your character by hitting the Tab button on your keyboard.
16. Have fun!!!!!!
I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do. Please give it a chance you'll love it!

I got this last year and it's a toontastic game. My toon is Gigglegoober. (You can have a different name). I go to the middle of Selbot HQ in district Kookytown at 11:00 a.m. on weekends so you can meet me.
You can change districts by going into your Shticker Book. It is where you can teleport to other neighborhoods that you have teleport access to. If you don't and you want to go somewhere else look on you friends list, click "Toon Details" and if it says there in the neighborhood you want, click "Go To". If it is too crowded somewhere you can change districts on the world button on the side of your Shticker Book. You will be told a lot more when you start a new toon. The point of the game is to fight evil cogs with gags (weapons) and to finish toontasks to fight cogs or to go somewhere in the streets.
There are Cog HQs and Cog Buildings. The Cog HQs are Lawbot HQ, Selbot HQ, and Cashbot HQ. I don't have any information on Lawbot HQ because I haven't been there yet. However, I know it's located at the end of Polar Place in the Brrrgh. Selbot HQ is at the end of Oak Street in Daisy Gardens. You go into the factory to get pieces of your cog suit by defeating all the cogs inside. Once you finish your cog suit you have to earn Merits by defeating enough Selbots. Once the bar says, "Ready for Promotion", you can enter the V.P. (Vice President) by entering the back doors in the courtyard in Selbot HQ. You go into the elevator with the maximum if 7 companions (8 in all) and fight all the cogs, and then the skelecogs, and then, you fight the V.P. You're trying to push him off the platform where the target is. You are able to throw cream pies at the V.P. If you throw them at another toon it gives them laugh points. You have a set amount of laugh points and can earn more by completing toontasks. The cogs also use gags on you and you'll lose laugh points if they hit you. When you lose all your laugh points you'll teleport back to the playground and the cogs/V.P./C.F.O will take away all your gags. Don't worry; you can buy more gags with jellybeans you earn from riding the trolley. When you defeat the V.P. the toon that you rescued will show up in your Shticker book on an SOS card. You can use it in a battle when you need help in a battle by clicking SOS and then your toon. He/she'll come and use a gag. I don't know about the C.F.O because my toon isn't advanced enough. But I do know that it is in Cashbot HQ. Cashbot HQ is located at the end of the Pajama Place in Donald's Dreamland. There are three mints there you can go to. The Coin Mint is the easiest, the Dollar mint is a little harder, and the Billion Mint is the hardest. You do NOT get pieces of your cog suit be defeating one. You get them by doing toontasks in Donald's Dreamland. That's all I know about Cashbot HQ.
Find out the rest of toontown by playing... IT ROCKS!
Addicting. Very Very Addicting.

I let my 9 yr old try Toontown online for the 3 free days from their website. My son loved it so I bought it for him, now I have tried it and play more than him. Even my 3 yr old has his own character he can play. Our whole family plays this game. For each account you get up to six characters. Although only one can be logged in at a time. I know players that have muliple accounts for their family so they can play at the same time. Get this game you'll love it.

The kidsloved the game on demo and bought their own for the home computer. We were a bit upset they each had to buy their own to have an account, but oh well. Then we find out that they could only play for two months. after that they are required to pay 10 bucks a month to be online. They don't even have the option of playing off line. Another example of Disney greed sucking the money out of hard working parents.

Toontown is a great game. My sister and I both have been playing on and off during school seasons for 3 years. We have really enjoyed it lots.
During the summer we spend hours on it defeating cogs and getting new toontasks. Cogs are bad robots that are trying to take over toontown. You have to deafeat them throughout the game with your gags. Gags are the weapons you use to defeat the evil cogs. The best part of all is getting better and better and having friends from toontown and real life help you with all that you need.
There is place called goofy's speedway, where you can race other toons in toon cars. You can also have little pets called doodles. They are dog like pets that you can feed and play with. They can also heal you in cog battles.
Toontown is a great game and I suggest buying it for any little kids or teens who want to have some fun!
