I had such high hopes for this game to be good. Too bad that's not the way it turned out. I'm not sure if it was only me, but I really wanted a game that stayed a "tactical" shooter it seemed very run and gun however. I had been playing Island Thunder like crazy and was So pumped for GR2 to blow me away. It didn't, howver, and I had to wait until GRAW to actually get my "ghost recon" back. I'm getting off track here, sorry. Back to Ghost Recon 2. It just seemed like it wasn't very tactical and was more run and gun. At least in the multiplayer. I never really played the single player, because until GRAW, I didn't really like the single player aspects of a Ghost Recon game (except in GRIT of course).
Presentation
The menus in this game gave me such a hard time. They would freeze, screw up, and they were just difficult to get through in general. Lets just say they drove me NUTS!
Graphics
When the game first came out, I was thrilled with the way the graphics looked. They were so good at the time and they really showed off the power of the Xbox. Aside from Halo 2 and a few others, it was one of the best looking games out in the market.
Sound
I thought that the music and sound effects in this game were very good and set a real mood for the game. Very well done.
Gameplay
As I said, I really didn't play the single player campaign much, so I'm mostly going off the multiplayer gameplay. But, even so, the game just didn't play like previous Ghost Recon games. It wasn't tactical at all and play like a purely run and gun game.
Lasting Appeal
I don't think the single player aspect is what made this game "last." There were extra mulitplayer maps, and, again for people who liked it, the multiplayer aspects is what kept this game going.

This is a great game if you like tactical shooters, the graphics are great and the game overall is really visually inviting. The storyline is not much to think about but I won't ruin it for you, let me just say don't expect any surprises. The next problem is the AI is really a problem, your team sometimes they just sit there and let you do all the work. As for the enemies they will run and advance towards you but when you shoot them they don't even act like their shot, they just sort of lay down. Another part I want to point out that I found disappointing, the multiplayer is great live but splitscreen they toned it down from what it used to be in originals. Splitscreen with just two people doesn't allow you to pick a whole ghost team but puts you solo against your oponent. Your not going 4 ghost against 4 ghost but more of a oo7 type style of splitscreen. But there is co-op also. One last thing, it also lets you go back through the missions and play lone wolf with high tech gear and recon and other different ways to take to the fight of your choosing. However if you mind the few quirks ubisoft has left and you like the original series, this game might be for you. I liked the game overall, it presents challenges. Then again I still think if I knew what this game was really like I wouldn't have bought it. If
fun game but causes a glitch.

GR2 features a passable story line, really nice graphics, flexibility in weapons choice and frustrating game play. The single player missions are very linear - you move in pretty much a straight line and just blast anything that moves. You have 3 AI idiots to work with - they are incapable of doing much on their own - you can give them simple commands and once you learn to do that you can do much better. If they get wounded you can give them aid to keep them alive - then they get up like nothing happened. GR2 has almost no stealth to it ... it is nearly a Halo experience with the exception that it is amazingly easy to get killed. Now the thing that really bugs me is that the enemy AI is so dumb. I'd feel better if I knew the AI that snuffed me was crafty but here it seems to be that they kill you only because you can't see them. I've had them walk right over me when I'm laying exposed on the ground and other times zap me when I moving through a heavily forested area. Vehicles are introduced in a similarly meaningless way - attack helicopters fly overhead and hover so that you can shoot them with a MAAWS - unless the MAAWS won't let you fire because the targeting system refuses to let you launch. You can usually only blow things up the prescribed way - i.e. you can't use a satchel charge on a vehicle unless you're supposed to.
Mutliplayer is really fun - many of the players are older than the typical Halo crowd. The online action redeems the game. But even that is very frustrating. If the enemy gets to a good sniping spot before you do you are doomed - the game play can be very one sided. The gameplay is enhanced if you have a communicator but most of the players are into playing in Halo mode... charge in and shoot the place up and respawn when you're wasted...definitely a game that has potential but could use some improvement.
Socomized is understating things...

With Socom what do most people do? Skip the single player and hop online. Well that is the case this time, which is a shame because the first two ghost recon games had the strongest single player modes of all the squad-based shootera. Too linear, too restrictive and too limited. So if I were to attach a score to the single player, it would get a 2.5. Not worth it, especially for full price.
Online is a whole different story. You can also play lots of single player online, which can make up for the 1-P AI. Just so you know though random humans can also be a pain to work with, so try to only play people from your friends list. Then you have regular and team varients on a bunch of different things like deathmatch, siege, king of the hill and last man standing to name the main ones...within this you have lots of options to change. Maps are intimidating at first, but rewarding once you figure their layouts out. The main thing it has over socom is you don't regulary see people emptying full clips into eachother, but then again the death animations in GR2 can look very weird. Grenades have a better radius than rainbow six 3 as well. Frankly this game is much better than Rainbow Six 3 in a lot of areas, including graphics and sound. The graphics are vastly superior to Socom 2's, and the textures in general are better than Rainbow six's by a pretty good margin. Weather effects are done very well. The sound also is very well done, a stable of the ghost recon series. Surround sound is a very useful tool here. Interface wise it feels cheap for such a long-time developer of Live games. I mean searching takes forever, and even then you can't tell what the settings are until you join a lobby. This can get aggrivating, but the community for the game is generally good so most likely you'll stick with a group for a while.
Overall Ghost Recon 2 obviously has let down fans of the series without live, it really has been turned into the best military shooter on XBL. Don't trade in Socom 2(maps for that game are very hard to beat) but if you like that game look into this one.

I'm shocked reading these posts of people saying how terible GR2 is...Sure the single player missions are boring but most people buy this game to play online which by far is one of the best online game out there. 10X better than Gaylo, and for the people who disagree that it's not fun to play it online let me ask you this. Why is it always within the top 4 games played on XBOX Live?
My suggestion is to really only get this game to play on XBOX LIVE. You won't find a better game out there right now.
The only reason I give 4 stars is because I hate the stupid frick'n lag, & the Red X..Any GR2 player knows what I'm talking about...Ubisoft needs to fix thier server problems.
So everyone who says the game sucks, play it online a few times then write a review. I bet your revised review will be a lot diffrent.
Oh and one more rant... Sure GR2 is gonna suck if you play it on PS2 because PS2 is garbage compared to XBOX.

It was fun to play ; but way to hard. You don't get enough health.Normal skill level in Ghost Recon 2 would be hard in any other game. I have seen worse games;but it could have been alot better.
Awesome Game better than original!!!

This game is definetly bettter than the original! I like the third person view the most and the crystal clear graphics. If you buy this game you should consider buying the strategy guide for step by step instruction on what to do.
BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ghost Recon 2 is by far the best war game ever made game with the best graphics of the backround and the people. The enimies are smart and don't run away when you shot at them, the aiming is more advaced than any other game and the commands are much better than the first couple Ghost Recon's. Over all this game is so damn cool.
Yep, it's not the Ghost Recon we all know....it's different

I bought it thinking it's would be a continuation of GR and GRIT. Sadly, it is different. Three stars for making me think it was like GR/GRIT. I've paid for it; so I'll play it.
