I Tried this game about a year ago and have been hooked ever since. As far as improvements there have been several patches for it as of now (3/20/04). Yes, your AI can be stupid but apart from a few situations its all good because this game was written for YOU to do most of the work, not the AI.The Jungles r pretty realistic for computer generated foilage.Everything from stealth missions to tunnel clearing to ridiculous fire fights. The Multiplayer is SICK! Definately the best I have Played ( I have Counter-Strike, Medal of Honor, Etc. ) The Fist Alpha Expansion came out recently and improves even more. Even without the Expansion you can still play on the new patch v1.60 and Fist Alpha players can play with you. Look at the Vietcong-Game website for More Info and Demo of both the orig and Fist Alpha. My Favorite game for my Xp computer.

You want jungle warfare this is it! You want a taste of Vietnam especially the highland or I should say the "I Corp" then this is it. The only thing missing is the red dust from the dustoff....I tried the demo version and it brought tears back to my eyes...walking the edge of the hilltops looking down the hill and seeing shadows running around...preparing to run through them blazing away......get this game for your favorite grunt from VN who knows what it takes to clear the area (search and destroy)....the negative is no "claymore"..hehehe
If you are not sure try the demo before purchasing would give you an idea if this is the fast paced game you want to play on the internet....catch you on the "CA"....
Nothing revolutionary

I buy tons of fps games. This one is a little different in that it really includes you as part of the game - more of a plot than most. Graphics are fast, but the world is a little screwy somtimes - not much freedom as it directs you exactly where you're supposed to go, and sometimes there are really annoying flaws - like when you crouch go prone behind a rock, it puts the camera view inside the rock - you can see under the enemies feet, and when you shoot tour rounds don't hit anything. Also - when moving around in prone position and you go to crawl over a rock or something, the camera will get pointed at the sky or something and won't allow you to keep focused in the direction you're trying to see. Pretty hoaky. Needs a patch or two. The sound is cool though.

I've been playing this demo for over a month now, this has got to be the best demo of a game I have yet to play. Can't wait to get the full version. This game incorporates so much realism and the graphics are very nice. I recommend this to anyone who wants a game that gives you chills and makes you jump when you get your head blown off because you werent paying attention. Anyone who liked MOH or Battlefield should like this unless your epileptic because its so real the movement could make you sick, literally.

I went into this feeling skeptical. However, curiosity overcame all doubts, and I downloaded the demo and began playing. THIS GAME JUST BLEW ME AWAY! I've played my fair share of FPS games, and own quite a few; but this has to be one of the best looking, and funnest (<-This should be a word if it isn't) games I've ever seen. I really felt like I was there, fighting the VietCong in the lush yet deadly Vietnamese jungle. From what I've played of this game, I can tell that the makers really did their homework and put a lot of time and effort into this game. Granted that their are some annoying little quirks the game has, all-in-all this game definitely scores high on my personal lists of favorites. This is arguably as addicting for the PC as HALO is for the X-Box. I'm definitely going to have to go buy this game.
This game rocks....after patch

I rate this game as one of the best FPS games I have ever played neck-to-neck with Deus-Ex, System Shock 2 and Thief. Every action scene you have seen in the movies about Vietnam, you will experience here.
The graphics and sounds are great, and the game's AI is one of the best yet. Enemies will continue relocating, they literally jump away from enemy fire and they will run away if the see a grenade thrown at them. You can also call in mortar and airstrikes, which are way cool.
The effects are great too, Your ears will be howling if a grenade explodes near you, rain is realistic, leaves fall off when you brush by them.
But first you will have to download a 40MB patch to cure those "unkillable enemy" problems. After that, the game is great. One of the early contenders for game of the year.
Just a really good game.

This game is really good. It is not the best first person shooter out there but it's single player missions are amazing and (though i dont know because i have a crappy internet connection) i hear it's multiplayer is pretty great too.
If you have played Medal of Honor and loved it, you probably know how important great sound is to a great FPS. The sound in Vietcong is amazing, stunning, disturbingly good.
If you like stylish shooters and great single player campaigns, buy this game, especially because it doesnt cost that much now.
If you like realistic, tactical based shooters, you would like this to.
OUT OF TEN...
SOUND: 10 (orgasmic)
GRAPHICS: 8 (great sometimes, sloppy others)
GAMEPLAY: 8 (not particularly smooth, but very fun and intense)
A. I: 9 (they actually flank you and hide like crazy)
GUNS AND RELOADING: 10 (beautiful reloading and tons of guns)
Has Lots of Potential

let;s not forget everyone that the version out now is only a demo.
developers put these out so that you the consumer can get an idea what the final product will generaly be like. Its also an oportunity to get feedback on the design, playability issues, and any bugs that need to be fixed before the final product is released. I gave this a 5 star because the developers obviously put alot of effort into making the environments as realistic as possible. The water/River effect is stunning! It looks so real! And this is a FPS Your supposed to go around and shoot everyone, if your in DM MODE. If your in another Mood of play and it happens just go to another game or start your own. Don't whine about it.
Really ugly, but unique and good

One thing about first person shooters nowadays is that so many of them seem the same. That's why Vietcong is somewhat refreshing, since it is kind of different. The game really makes a bad first impression on you with its ugly graphics and unorthodox gameplay. Vietcong isn't a stealth game. It's not a pure action game either. The squad-based elements are too simple to call it a tactical shooter. It's unique one its own, and it's very good. Best of all, it feels authentic, and for a war as unique as Vietnam, that's saying a lot.
What this game suceeds at is effectively capturing the elements that made Vietnam different from wars such as World War 2. Engagements take place quickly in tension-filled jungles between your small squad and small groups of four or five VC. A helicopter often brings you into the mission and then picks you up at the end. Occasionally, you can radio a firebase for support and then a few seconds later, hell in the form of artillery shells will come raining down on the area that you specify and obliterate anybody in it. Using artillery is a fun mechanic and it's too bad that it only comes up a few times in the game. Vietcong checkpoint saves your game, but it also gives you a limited amount of quick saves per level. This save system is perfect. It keeps the game suspenseful almost all the time, without making it frustrating. The gameplay also relies on good AI instead of heavy scripting for the firefights, and that's another big plus.
The dialog, sounds, and overall feel of the gameplay give the game a feel that resembles what you read about or what you see in old news tapes. You creep slowly through the terrain, following your point man, and then find some cover when you engage some VC. your enemies, as well as your squadmates, are highly lethal and very effective at using cover. It takes maybe three or four bullets to kill you in this game, which means that you have to advance very slowly and carefully. The hardest part about firefights often isn't shooting the enemy, but just finding where he is hiding. Sometimes, all that you see is a tracer or two, or maybe a muzzle flash along with the sound of bullets whizzing past your head. These cat-and-mouse type firefights usually last less than a minute, but they can be very exciting. I have not played a first person shooter that resembles this, except for maybe Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault.
The only fault that I had with the gameplay was that the game occasionally deviates from the squad-based formula and sticks you in some solo tasks. These tasks frequently involve spelunking through maze-like VC tunnels, fighting one or two enemies at a time in a very boring manner. There is one absolute marathon mission in the game where you explore a seemingly endless maze of VC tunnels. It's not frustrating as much as it is really boring. Hopefully, this wasn't in the expansion pack.
The game's audio is competent without being outstanding. The voice acting is a mixed bag. The main character is pretty weak, but some of your squadmates are good. The radio chatter that you listen to is pretty good. The weapons are kind of average sounding, and none of them sound very powerful. The soundtrack is very good, and does a good job of matching the era.
As I said previously, the graphics for this game are pretty bad. All of the character models are blocky and low-detailed. The same goes for the environments, which are drab and very unconvincing. Instead of the feel that you are fighting through jungles, it feels like you are fighting through valleys full of boxes that have crude leaves painted on them. The environments and objects are all very repetitive, which is expected for a game like this, but it's magnified even more by the fact that it looks so outdated.
Vietcong has a pretty good length to it. It took me just under 15 hours or so to finish it. It has a lot going for it, but the underwhelming presentation is a disappointment. This game isn't going to change your life, but it is something good if you're bored with first person shooters. Check it out and see if you like it.

Overall Vietcong is a good FPS game. The graphic is nice and pretty. I am using Geforce2 GTS 64MB and keep the setting at 1024X768 32 bit and 85 hz. The graphic is too good to describe. Smooth action and cool story. "BUT" something are too stupid and doesn't make any sense. You need to pound at least 10 shot on a Vietcong's head to kill him. It is no way to make one shot one kill. This is impossible. Remember, they can kill you with only one clear shot. What is that? Is this the way make the game harder to play? One more thing. You don't have a flashlight to use in the dark tunnel. You only can light up the neon light and drop on the ground to light up the dark tunnel. After you passed the point, it will be totally dark again. You won't see anything except your cross-hair point. It is stupid. You have to walk in a totally dark tunnel without knowing your direction. It is too frustrated to play that way. At least a flashlight is better. I don't think the real soldier will walk in the dark tunnel without a flashlight. I finished all level and mission in few days and decided to sell the game. Because it is no reason need to play the second time.
