Ive been waiting two years for this? This game is a joke.
The graphics are nowhere near what the claims are.It was
like steppin' back into the seventies and playing defender
or something along those lines...Only it wasn't that fun!
If you want killer graphics get Enclave...Every game should
look that good. There is no excuse for grainy or childish
graphics,in this day and age...It's just plain lazy.

INCREDIBLE! Incredibly OVERRATED I mean

After reading tons of rave reviews on game sites for days, I finally forked out ... my hard-earned money to buy Panzer Dragon Orta. Right after seeing the intro movie I had a sickening feeling in my stomach.... I was shaking my head in disbelieve... I absolutely don't understand what the hype is all about. One word that sums everything about the game is CHEESY. I didn't buy an XBox to play a Nintendo 64 quality game!!! I think the storyline is [substandard], the gameplay quickly gets boring and redundant, sound brings back memories from the 80's, graphics is OK but nothing compared to Halo and Splinter Cell. Do your self a favor and save your money for another game... don't throw it away like I did. Giving it 1 star is being too generous..... sigh....

TERRIBLE

Panzer ORTA is yet another game release from the "new" Sega, and like many of Sega's new releases, this game was hyped beyond belief before its release, but ultimately PDO turned out to be mediocre at best, much like Toejam & Earl III, JSRF, Gunvalykrie, etc.

The potential for this game to succeed was staggering. WIth the fine legacy left by the Sega Saturn trilogy and hot off the heals of the fantastic PD Saga, I expected PDO to turn out at least on par with what the Saturn versions had to offer. Instead, we get gameplay very reminscient of the early PD games, basically linear excursions through graphically impressive levels, with mind numbingly lengthy boss battles. The desire to replay the stages just isn't there and when they constantly throw boss battles that take up to 10 minutes to complete (I'm not exaggerating here..there's a timer counting down your boss battles), PDO just gets old and stale rather quickly.

Yeah, yeah...Sega threw in a host of challenges and unlockables in teh Pandora's Box including the full version of PD1, but I didn't buy an XBOX to play 8 year old Sega Saturn games I've already played to death.

THe story is rather bizarre and the mini-games you play in the Pandora's Box at first seem to have no connection whatsoever to the main game (it gets clearer as you go on), but the trial and error nature of these challenges will turn off MANy gamers. Instead of turning out to be an epic game on the XBOX..one that would be talked about for years like the Saturn games, PDO has basically become one of those games that only the hardcore players will flock to and has quickly fallen out of sight and has rarely been mentioned since.

IF this is what Sega has become today, then I'll be very wary of any new releases from them in the future!

Fast and VERY challenging

I hate to write a bad review, but the bad experience I've had with this game, and the fact that you have no recourse but to tell other people about it, makes this my only option. If I could slap up the folks who put this game out I would. They had so much going for them, and they blew it. If only they would have spent a few extra bucks to re-record the dialog in English, instead of sub-titling it...! (the game is originally from Japan.) Some times key information on how to defeat enemies is yelled at you, and with all the action onscreen, you can't afford to look away for a second to read instructions.

I just spent 2 hours of my life trying to defeat the third level boss. And after finally chipping his health down to 20% I got killed. You don't start off where you left off like many games, no, you have to start at the painstaking beginning! That's not quality game play, that's an excercise in futility.

Rent this one before you buy. It's very colorful and fast paced and if not for the difficulty it would be worth owning.

This can't be the same game I played

I got the game based on the glowing reviews here and at GameSpot. I can't believe these reviews were for the game I played. I was sorely disappointed. I really wasn't that impressed with the graphics, and the story is just weird. But the key point is, this game just isn't fun.

If I could return it, I would.

A Beautiful Work Of Weirdness

I got this game for its graphics. Every time I saw a screenshot of this game, I always thought it would be amazing. Unfortunately, the game let me down a bit, being nothing more than... "good".
As I told you before, the game has unbelievable graphics. Controls do take some time to learn, so they're not that good. The soundtrack is very good, but the voice acting feels a little weird for me since I can't understand what they're talking (I speak spanish, english and portuguese, but I don't speak any japanese, so...). Fortunately, the english subtitles help me a lot.
I didn't get the game's story. Every place, every character and every situation is just so weird for me, I feel like I'm playing during an effect of some drug... I know it sounds crazy, but that's what the game is for me. Crazy doesn't mean bad, but since I don't get what's going on behind all that beautiful nonsense I see, it turns into a bad thing.
But since I see that lots of people like it, maybe it was just me who thought this game was "just good". I was playing this game in Easy mode, and even there I had some serious difficulties to continue the game in some parts, that's why I didn't beat it (I'm not the only one who complained about this game's high difficulty). But a good aspect from this game is that it has tons of extras. Extra levels, some texts and much more, you'll spend some time just as this game's extras. As you complete the main game, the extras just keep coming.
Overall, I think this game is worth a looks for you all Xbox owners out there, because there is a good possibility you'll like it, and it's a Xbox exclusive. You may don't agree with me on this one, but I tried to say why I think this game isn't that good. So I hope I was helpful doing so.

Could have been better...

This game takes full advantage of the Xbox. The backgrounds look more like artwork than something in a video game. The story is interesting but a little bizarre and a lot is lost in the fact that you have to read subtitles during the game. The manufacturers should have taken the extra time to use voice overs as the subtitles get tedious and can be distracting. Basically, you fly around in a pre-determined path blasting your way through enemies and bosses. You are perched on top of a dragon that can morph into different states, each with it's own abilities. Controls are easy to master (it's basically a third person shooter game) and camera angles are right on target. The graphics and unique story line make this game seem better than it actually is.

Disappointing

Such a let down..

When I heard Sega was making games for the XBox I was thrilled, however, this installment of Panzer Dragoon is sub par.

Very short. Incredibly short. It's only 10 levels. Pathetic. The controls were pretty easy to master. The switching dragons was a nice way to make things more difficult. And the backgrounds were stupendous. Very well done.

However, the difficulty is incredible. I can't get past level 3 on Normal. Ok, maybe I ..., but it's still far to difficult. Enemies all around you, and you barely heal after a level.

However, on the plus side. If you beat the game you get the entire Panzer Dragoon game. Very nice easter egg.

There's also a sub mission involving a boy in the empire, but boy does it .... You have to hover the chair he's in and its too damn shaky to steer, since you're on a rail (never stop moving) you crash into walls and die. And have to read this stupid thing about how he gets kicked out of the empire

Boy do I not care. I wish game companys would make EVERY SINGLE CUTSCENE SKIPPABLE. IM NOT WATCHING A MOVIE.

What's with the voices too? At first I thought they were in Japanese, but they're just random words. I'm not in for reading subtitles; never do that again Sega.

I had high hopes for "Panzer Dragoon: Orta." I mean, Gamespot had nothing but favorable things to say on the title's behalf, and I generally agree with their assessments. Yes, "Orta" offers a horde of extras. Yes, "Orta" has some inspiring visuals and a fairly interesting sci-fantasy setting. However, it's still just a "rail shooter," which is to say that you have little direct control over your dragon. You fly in predetermined directions, sometimes dodging certain hazards, all the while shooting at enemies that attack you in droves. This style of gameplay is antiquated, no matter how you look at it - though if you enjoyed previous enties in the series, I can understand how you might support the decisions made by the developers. Still, I myself was expecting more, especially given some of the early praise this game has snagged, and I feel that much of it is undue. Fly and shoot, fly and shoot, fly and shoot... it gets old, fast. However, if you enjoy this kind of thing, it's probably as good as it gets, and you'll be on cloud nine. Series vets will surely appreciate it. But even with all those extras (which include full versions of some of the earlier "Dragoon" games), it all feels overpriced just now.
