X BOX Ninja Gaiden Preview Tokyo Game Show

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 63 / 87

Upon reading others reviews it is impossible to rate this game because it is still in development. There isn't even a possible demo yet. I saw the game at Tokyo Game Show 2003 on Sept 27 Sunday a week ago ( I live in Japan). It really erks me when people rate a game that isn't done yet. I have seen about a 4 to 7 minute demo which is what I based this reveiw off of. In this game, which includes the main character running up walls and utilizing a variety of weapons including nun chucks, bow and arrows, and a sword there is smooth transition and interaction. The enemies are well developed characters also which includes a white haired buff guy that sports nun chucks, a dinosaur skeleton and zombie like creatures. I have to tell you that out of all of the games at the game show this game was the most impressive action game there. It was the only fast paced (unlike the stealthy Metal Gear Solid 3) action game that wasn't a devil may cry rip off, unlike cy girls which is a devil may cry slash metal gear rip off that I somehow managed to like anyway. This is the breakdown of the 10 best games at the show:

1. Half Life 2 (PC)
3. Ninja Gaiden (X Box)
2. Metal Gear Solid 3/Twin Snakes (PS2/ Gamecube)
3. Gran Turismo 4 ( PS2 sorry not a big racer fan)
4. Berserk (New PS2 game)
5. Shadow Hearts 2 (PS2)
5. True Fantasy Online (X Box)
6. Dinosaur Hunter (PS2)
7. Resident Evil Online (PS2)
8. Otogi 2 (X Box)
9. Suikoden 4 (PS2)
10. Eye Toy (PS2)

There will be a lot of Devil May cry clones coming out, so be on the look out. I never take time to write review but when I saw the rating for this game at a three star and it isn't even out yet I was upset because I know a lot of people buy games on Amazon and other online marketplaces, and they use the star review to buy their games, so trust me when I say this, this game is hot. But maybe you should wait for a professional review, but I aint, because this game along with other Tecmo titles convinced me to buy an X Box. nuff said.

Best action/adventure game ever

Before this game was released I was somewhat looking forward to it, but not with a great interest. Well thats until I actually played it. The first thing to blow me away were the graphics. They are absolutely breathtaking. The CG movies, the in game graphics, special effects, just amazing. But the game isn't all graphics and no gameplay. Believe it or not, the gameplay is actually better than the graphics. You can do everything you've seen ninjas do in movies. Swinging, climbing, wall running and of course slashing peoples limbs off. And it all just looks so real. The moves and weapons are also fantastic. Some of the coolest moves I've seen in any game for awhile. They are also easy for beginners, but hardcore gamers can spend alot of time on perfecting them. The stages are very varied and very large, the sound is nice and the enemies and weapons are also very varied. One problem that many people may have is the game's difficulty. It is very hard. The first boss, for example, is exceptionally difficult. If you persist, however, you will be greatly rewarded.

To start Tecmo & Team Ninja have really out done themselves with this one as the graphics in this game are simply a wonder to behold.
The game is hard, but not unfairly as it rewards intelligent playing as the better you make use of the combo system the more essence you receive from defeating enemies which helps to unlock more features.
The camera can be a little annoying, but its never much of a problem if you remember to use the right thumbstick especially when coming through new doorways. There are only really two spots when the camera is a bit more of a problem when facing multiple enemies usually more than three it tends to have a difficult time keeping a good focus on the action. It seems to be a bit lessened though if you can keep moving around. The second is when going through narrow passageways, but this can usually be resolved by using the right thumbstick.
The different moves look great and handle extremely well and are fairly simple to learn, but some are bit more difficult to master. The story is good though not to original, but fits the game well. The voice acting is good and fits the respective characters well, but some of the dialogue seems a bit dry probably just something lost in translation. The varied environments are simply stunning and the music fits each level well. The cutscenes are superb and simply the best around. The character designs are amazing as they are the best out there.
In all Ninja Gaiden is one of best games ever as it raises the bar for action/adventure games. If you play videogames and just want to mash buttons this is probably not the game for you, but if you like games that are good challenge which reward intelligent creative gameplay then you should love this. The game is not perfect, but is probably as close as a action/adventure game will come until the next wave of game systems come out.

A Graphic Masterpeice!!!

Just looking at this game's screenshots is enough to make someone want to buy this game. It truly harnesses the graphic prowess of the Xbox processer. But, of course, graphics don't make a game. With this game series' excellent history, however, I doubt there is much to worry about with how this game turns out.

If you are the type of buyer that uses Amazon's star rating system to decide whether or not to buy a game, disregard it on this one. The person who gave this a one-star rating obviously didn't rate it right, because in his review, he praised the game.

This game will almost undoubtitely live up to its predecessor's legacy. It's a must-buy.

THE greatest Xbox game (next to Halo)

wow, this game had me from the first second i played it. stunning environments, great attacks, graceful moves, realistic and beatiful in all aspects. one problem. this game is HARD. and i mean hard. the controls are pretty easy (although sometimes when fighting you can't see the enemy, the game is 3rd person), but the enemies pretty much from the start are hard. the first boss took me twenty times (and a few destroyed boxes) to beat, and it became harder from there. but once you master the moves of rolling, jumping, throwing, slashing, and charging you're good to go.

The greatest game on the Xbox is going to be even BETTER!!!!

If you have an Xbox, stop reading this review, and buy this game. This game is the REASON to buy an Xbox.

The gameplay of NG is a hack and slash sword action game, similar to Devil May Cry, or Otogi, but far far superior. The sheer amount of combos, and fighting strategies is staggering. The graphics are also some of the best found on this console. All the models look high in polycounts, and everything has a polished look. However, some of the textures can be a bit bland sometimes, but it's not a big issue.

Now as I said in the title, this game is going to be even better, with the upcomming Ninja Gaiden Black. NGB, is basically NG, with all of the hurricane packs, new costumes, the original NG arcade game, new gameplay modes, and 2 new difficulty settings. I'm probably missing some other features, but just check out gamespot or something for the full list.

Bottom line, get this game. Your only excuse for not getting it should be, that you are waiting for Ninja Gaiden Black.

BEST GAME I OWN

this is a great game for people who are looking for a challenge. if you are looking for an easy game where you can just hack and slash your way through this is not it. you will have to use several differnt move combos to win. it is a little harder than i expected but it is certainly not boring. i have not had to use my brain this much in a game ever. the controls take a while to get used to but once you have the moves down you can enjoy yourself for hours.

Best action game since the 2D era

I actually give this game 4.5 stars, it isn't perfect but 4 stars don't do it justice.

Remember playing Ninja Gaiden or Contra or something from the NES back in the day. The games made you want to break the controller and you usually had to face a boss a few times before you had him mastered enough to squeak by. And sometimes there was this piece you just couldn't pass. It was frustration, yet rewarding. You experienced some of the most memorable and epic moments in gaming that way. This game is like that.

Sure it's not the late 1980s anymore but this new Ninja Gaiden is a worthy installment and does a good job of adapting the classic feeling to the series. It's full of fast paced action, yet you still feel in control. You could slice by enemies with little effort if you perform well but you can also get careless and die at any moment. Despite being a game full of fast action, it also has some defense moves, blocking, jumping, and above all rolling that really becomes key to pacing the action in your favor and getting out of harms way. You can upgrade your blade and other weapons you pick up along the way including different kinds of nunchucks. This never gets tedious it's not like an RPG, it's just a simple 2 or 3 level upgrade that makes your weapon a bit stronger.

Graphics, sound, and all production elements are up to scale with all the other great games. You get a lot of different levels including army camps, caves, cities, airships most which are actually connected to each other. Only early in the game when you start in your home town which looks like a basic ancient Japanese town and then board an Airship, will you jump to the level without actually getting there during gameplay or showing a cut scene of how you got there. All in all the graphics and action all flow very smoothly.

The game isn't perfect, some people complain it's too hard, and the camera is a problem. People said the same thing when the original Devil May Cry came out. And yeah, the camera sometimes puts you in a vulnerable position because you can't see, but I wouldn't even of thought of complaining about that if I hadn't heard other people talking about the camera problems. I think that's just the genre, you got to deal with it. It's not a first person shooter.

The only real flaw I can think of is that the main attack button is the same as the button used to interact with the environment to solve light puzzles. And sometimes during the middle of the action you'll suddenly interact with something, whether it's a downed Ninja that's holding something, a box with arrows or a door. You'll be in the middle of the intense action and suddenly get near a door without even knowing and you'll be transferred to the other side of the door which is a different section all because the button to interact with doors is the same as the main attack button. This could have easily of been avoided by the developers.

It doesn't take a genuis to realize just how irrestiably pretty Tecmo makes their games, especially on Microsoft's ever dominate working horse: the Xbox. In case maybe you don't know, Ninja Gaiden was a classic arcade brawler that won over gamers with it's authentic ninja appeal. Fighting in bars, hanging on ceiling fans and launching stools at oppositions was certainly a recipe for a good time. Some sequals were spawned and the franchise made a name for itself. And Ryu Hayabusa earned a certified ass-kicking ninja title long before Shinobi ever showed his ugly mug.

Trust me if you can, and I honestly suggest you do when I say Ninja Gaiden is simply the best looking game out in the market period. The graphics are seamlessly done with high-water mark animation that's applied to Ryu's every inertia. The details are flamboyant suffice to say, and the extremely atmospheric levels help achieve a great sense of being there. But I am not going to go any further on how damn pretty this game looks, after all you've probably ran into ten or so other web sites and have read just how 'sick' or 'incredible' the visuals are. I commend more of a see-it-yourself approach. True beauty is found within the eye of the beholder; I think if we can agree on anything it is that Tecmo cares very dearly for us.

As flawless as the graphics are, there is actually one little dent in the armor I didn't mention earlier. The camera -- no, no this is all so very wrong, you know you got problems when attempting to reach a higher ledge and fall flat to your grave all not as a result of your own failure but because the camera was inexplainably horrid. See the way I look at it is Tecmo only had one single route to take. They knew that the game was going to be quick and centered around fast-paced combat. Sadly what they didn't recognize was that with many enemies invading at one time on the screen.....there was going to be some issues with the camera lacking the speed to zoom in on the action. But who can blame the game makers, they obviously knew this was a problem and decided that in order to avoid sacrificing the gameplay, they had to let the camera go nuts a bit. I know it's a doomful exchange but I am just trying to sort out what could've been the problem. Or who knows, maybe it's my own biased perspective at trying everything in my arsenal to defend this crowing achievement.

Ninja Gaiden suffers severly from it's challenge. Again trust me when I say that this is one of the hardest games ever made. Of course against bosses your best friend is blocking and evading, something that needs to be almost second nature. And you are given the choice of so many moves, Tecmo did this for a reason. To imply that hey, just maybe this is an action game where you'll be forced to use everything in any situation to have the greatest success. It's fine by me, because the stiff challenge rewards dearly since I felt like I truly accomplished something undergoing each level. And being given the option to boot up older Ninja Gaiden games when it's completed is in itself a blessing and a shout out to how truly great this game series is. My friends, by now you've heard the positive remarks and they should be seriously taken in. If you need a third reason to buy the Xbox here it is. I am going to assume you know what the other two are. Just between you and me...ahem, Halo and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.

I'll just keep this short and simple. This is bar none the best action game of this generation of consoles. Deep combat, great graphics, nice effects, and some of the best gameplay I've ever had with a title. The game carries a mature rating for violence which is mainly due to blood and the ability to chop enemies heads off. The only complaint I have is during the platforming (jumping) sequences the camera is a bit of a pain. Other than that I love it. The boss battles are insane. Especially one of the later ones which I will not spoil. The graphics bar has been raised by this game and only Halo 2 will dethrone it later in the year for consoles.
