Since I have always been a fan of the Need for Speed series since its inception on the 3DO system, I bought the XBOX version of this game the day it came out, I thought it would have to be better than the PS2 version, right? Wrong. Despite the obvious lack of PlayStation 2 technical capability, the PS2 version is actually much, much better. The XBOX version plays like a beta of the PS2 version. It has several mistakes I noticed right away (incorrect statistics, cars driving on the left side of the road in US locales, etc), and the bottom line is, the XBOX one isn't fast or fun and the PS2 one is. Luckily, they took back my XBOX version and gave me a PS2 version. And, BTW, only the PC version will have online play, unfortunately.

Best game EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tis game is 1000000000000000 times better than underground2!
its graphics are oustanding and the cars are so exotic! ive had
xbox for a year and havent found anything like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if your interested in cool cars-2 words...GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gotta say that I was looking foward to this title, and I bought it as soon as I saw it on the shelf. My wife and I were big fans of the game for the PS1, so we expected this version for the Xbox to be updated with better graphics, cars and tracks.

Nope.

The graphics are terrible. It's hard to believe that Porsche Unleashed for my PC looks 100x better than this game, and the Xbox has a better graphics card inside it!

The physics for the cars are awful, vehical damage has been scaled WAY back as well.

The only thing I do like is the music. Can this be played as a CD?

I went back to the store and exchanged this game once I realized there are a lot more issues with FPS than I initially thought, so this review has been edited by me. Playing the game straight for 8 hours, you won't notice anything about the FPS.
After a game of RalliSport Challenge, however, the FPS drawback is obvious. Back in Need for Speed, I felt like I was in a sailing-boat on the road. Driving 100+ mph, everything around me moved unrealistically slow.

As someone else mentioned, cars driving on the left hand side in US locales is quite annoying. And where on the world does the police drive Dodge Vipers? I need to get me a job there. Aside of that, it's pretty good racing. In 1st person view, it's good fun to ride the car. It responds rather well to the controls. But, enter FPS. FPS is a problem when many things happen at once. Those times, it can slow down to a crawl.... The second graphics problem is clipping. Cars are clipped in and out quite often, including police-cars. Summarize the clipping as: "now you see me, now you don't." It seems amateurish to release a game where FPS obviously can't handle peak-moments, and clipping is a major problem. At least on the PC, a patch could've been shipped. All that said, it can't take away from the game that it's pretty fun driving, provided that you play this game only. If you own other racing games, you won't stick around for this one very long because the FPS is too poor. Definitely not a keeper.

This is the best game in the world,and I love it so much that I'am insisting you that you should really get it,because it's the best game I've ever played,It's even better than Grand Theft Auto 3,it's not just better it's way,way,way better than mind warping game,so get the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

i like it but it can get boring sometimes. if you want to be 1st place but the police get you and it will get you last place sometimes. this game is ok.

If it never paused on me, I'd give it 5 stars

Cool if it wounldn't pause/freeze in my face.You can be chased by police or be the police, go in the championship and the hot pursuit; but ruins the game by freezing. Don't buy this unless you want to waste your money.

This is the most realistic racing game I have ever played. The cars are incredible and the tracks are very impressive. A great buy!

I thought this game was cool at first but after the first week it got extremley boring. Whats up with the cars driving on the wrong side of the road. The graphics are ok and the good thing is the custom soundtracks because the games soundtrack sucks. Instead of buying this one buy underground 2
