Brilliant & Appreciated

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 3

i felt this game had enough challenge & atmosphere to credit the team that worked so hard to build it..(!) i dont understand why this game was knit-picked so badly. i thought the moving objects were really interesting especially with the way they mimicked actual objects. i've played games with stick-figues for graphics that took *hours & dozens of tries* to position. Having a little effigy of yourself running around on the screen is adorable. All the different camera features with total surround was brilliant. The only reason this game didnt get 5 stars was because it does need a patch to run on XP.

Totally immersive, but check your specs before buying

If you like solitary adventure games, highly detailed and gorgeous graphics, and music that complements and enhance the environment, you'll love Uru. But this endorsement comes with this caveat: Be sure your computer meets or exceeds the minimum requirements listed on the Uru forum for technical help. Be extra sure you have a "supported" graphics card, and follow the suggestions given in the forums, e.g., turn off other programs. I have a Dell Dimension 4300 with 512 MB RAM, an old nVidia GeForce FX 5200, a 1.2 GHz Pentium 4, a Creative SoundBlaster card, and decent speakers; I'm running Windows 2000. Uru runs flawlessly. It is a wonderful universe to just wander in for hours.

Terrible Disappointment

This was everything I dislike in a computer game. It has almost no resemblence to the real Myst games. If they keep going the next Myst product they produce will be a full shoot-em up game. This isn't too far from it.

Unstable and Boring

After just recently finishing Myst III Exile, I was so dissapointed
in Uru. The system requirements are too specific. Very few video cards will even work with the game, and if you do get it to work,
it's boring. Running across the desert is amusing for about 10 strides, not a whole game. Amazon will not leave this post here
because it will hurt their sales, but I whole heartedly recommend NOT spending money on this dismal failure.

Great looking but not for everyone. You'll need a LOT of time, patience and a fast computer. In fact, unless you're using at least a 2GHz processor, 512 MB of ram, and a graphics card like the ATI 9600 Pro or NVidia 5700 Ultra, don't bother.

Useless

My review may change, but so far I have not even been able to use this game. Despite having a brand new computer, updated sound and video drivers, exhausting UbiSoft's VERY limited free technical help, and having Microsoft evaluate my computer as having 4x the lowest requirements to use this software, I am still unable to run it. It continues to crash to the desktop.

I have been a HUGE Myst fan for YEARS, but this is enough to turn me off completely. I'm calling in a computer whiz friend of mine, but if that doesn't work, I'm sending it back. Until they get the bugs worked out, save your money.

Gave up trying to play after 4 hours of frustration!!!!

It should be clearly listed on the outside of the box that this game has several incompatibility issues with the most popular video cards, we have 2 nearly new HP computers, one with Pentium III and one with Pentium 4 and plenty of RAM in both, but the NVDIA cards are incompatible with this game! I got it for Christmas and was so excited to play. Now I am asking the gift giver for the receipt back so I can go buy another compatible type game for XP.

Graphic eye candy away from the usual FPS and fast actions

We all seem to love Call of Duty, or some sports carnage. While Uru presents us back to simple basic thinking, and feeding us back with remarkable graphics to ease our wounded cyber injuries from those fast paced shooters.

Check the video requirements

I would have liked to play this game, but unfortunately, the developers only used two video cards. Before you buy this game as a gift, make sure the person can tell you with certainty that the game will run on it! And, don't bother calling the tech support line, they'll just argue with you!

Horrible Interaction Model

All I want to know is where the people who designed how you move around in and interact with the game have been for the last few years. Out to lunch with their heads in the sand is all I can figure. As a trailblazer, the original Myst had an excuse. But that was then. After Real Myst demonstrated a smooth, intuitive, 3D GUI for Myst, there is simply no excuse for the impossibly awkward interaction model used by URU. I just can't believe it, and it makes me angry that anybody would even release this thing. Lately, I've been playing Dungeon Siege. It is such a pleasure to encounter a well-designed and well-tested interaction model. I guess I'll have to wait for Real URU to continue the Myst experience.
