Mortal Kombat has fixed a lot of problems with their latest release, Mortal Kombat Armageddon. There are trillions of characters and some fun mini-games too.
The basic plot - as if this blood-drenched game really needed a plot - is that the Gods are sick of all the fighting going on. They send their two sons down to try to get things under control. In the meantime, there's a gigantic pyramid in which the various Kombatants can duke it out to see who reins supreme.
There are many ways to play in Mortal Kombat Armageddon. There is a story mode where you do have a plot - you walk along paths in jungles, explore spaceships, have random fights as you go, gathering up coins and treasures. In arcade mode, you have instant access to about 60 different characters in a series of fights. If you get stuck with one character, you can try again with a new one.
The characters are drawn from all of the Mortal Kombat games. Some only showed up briefly in previous games. If you've been following up on the Mortal Kombat saga, you'll see all sorts of references to previous situations and feuds.
All the coins you earn in the various stages can be used to unlock items - new skills, new outfits, and more. They actually tell you what you're going to unlock, too! That's a nice change. Also, there's only one type of coin - so everything you earn goes into one bank account for you to spend however you wish.
There is a REALLY cool character creating system where you can set up a character, male or female, with exactly the hair, eyes, body shape and costume you want. The tweaking is pretty impressive with eye color, nose shape and more. You expect this level of detail from a RPG - but from a fighting game it's a great bonus.
Speaking of bonusses, if you like games like Super Bombad Racing, you're in for a treat. They include an entire racing game as a bonus, with little cartooney versions of Mortal Kombat characters zipping around on a track.
Are there downsides to the game? Well, while the arenas you fight in are destructable, have the ability to go from one area to the other and have interactive items, they are not as "lushly gorgeous" as a few other XBox fighting games.
Also, while it's pretty tame now compared to other mature games, it's worth noting that Mortal Kombat is very bloody. When this series first came out, a lot of people were in an uproar over it. Now the blood spurting out seems almost normal. Still, not a game for little kids.
It also seems a bit silly that you have fully detailed cinematics - sometimes VERY long cinematics - setting up situations ... but when you end an important battle you often get a text message saying "And then [insert important boss name here] decided to stop fighting and run away". It's a bit anticlimactic.
Still, these are minor complaints in a game that is really quite stellar. They let you play tons of characters right from the beginning, so you can easily get to your favorites. They have a ton of things to unlock, and the coin system is very easy. You know WHAT you're going to unlock.
And, to be honest, I *love* that they have male and female characters, side by side, kicking butt. I've seen male and female players choosing both male and female characters without any problem, knowing that both can be equally strong and skilled. That really makes me happy, that we've reached this point.
Highly recommend for mature fighting game fans.

There's a LOT of stuff here to like. The new additions are a create your own fighter and fatality system, a multiplayer racing system, and a career mode. While the fighting system itself is pretty much the same (I mean ... Kombat has been around since the Sega Genesis), what it loses to firmilarity it makes up in content. You have EVERY FIGHTER that's ever appeared in a MK game.
The only thing that I dinged the game on was that I found having every character at my disposable from the beginning really killed my motivation to do very much in single player mode. I think it would have been a little more fun if it was set up in the way Marvel Ultimate Alliance was. In that game, there was a ton of playable characters, but there was just as many unlockables, so you always had a carrot dangling in front of you to play a little more.
At under twenty dollars though, this is a fantastic buy. You'll have a ton of fun with it. Just an quick note too, this game is backwards-compatible for the xBox 360 as well. So don't hold off on purchasing just because you have the next-gen system. You can still play!

I have been a Mortal Kombat fan since the original game and I am always impressed with each new MK game (although I have yet to play MK: Mythologies).
I was a huge fan of Mortal Kombat Trilogy simply because we were finally able to play as some of the characters that we couldn't play as before: Shao Kahn, Goro, Kintaro, Motaro, etc. But it was only available on PS1 and the N64. I had always hoped that Midway would bring out something similar for the Xbox and PS2 consoles. After several more Kombat games, Midway finally did it! Here we get a roster of about 62 characters, four of which still need to be unlocked. But the fact that we virtually get all the characters unlocked when we first put the game in our consoles is absolutely amazing! I was expecting to have to unlock at least half the roster but that's not the case here!
What about some of the features? Well, for starters, like the last two MK games, there is The Krypt where you can use koins you've earned in Arcade and Konquest mode to unlock items. However, there are not as many unlockables in this game compared to the previous two; the reason could be because of the huge roster which took up disc space and a few other odds and ends. Sadly, there isn't much of anything special to unlock here except for alternate character costumes and arenas. The concept art is...well...just that. And the movies are basically test footage of some of the characters and about one or two promo ads for a couple of the newer MK games. What is especially nice about The Krypt this time is that there are no multi-colored koins to collect. There are only gold koins, making it easier to unlock items.
Konquest mode has been redone as well, making it more fun, in my opinion. Anyone who has played Shaolin Monks will easily see the resemblance here. This makes the mode much more fun because you have to interact more with the environment than in previous Konquest modes. However, there is probably one drawback to it, just like with any other previous Konquest mode, it is basically there for you to unlock items and to collect koins.
Another interesting feature here is Motor Kombat. What it is is a simple spinoff of the Mario Kart series of games, only with MK characters. There are ten characters to choose from, each with their one special abilities to try to win the race. There are also five tracks. The unfortunate thing about this mode, however, is that it is small, not offering us many characters or tracks due to the already large amount of disc space the roster takes up. This mode is something just to kill some time with and really nothing more. Some may find it more fun than Chess or Puzzle Kombat, but it is personal preference.
There is also a new Kreate A Kharacter feature. All you need to know about this is that it is, seriously, the DEEPEST character creation engine I have seen on ANY game to date! This mode goes in really deep and what makes it more fun is that you can take your character online and battle with others.
There is a Kreate A Fatality feature as well but it is only within the Arcade mode. When you defeat a character and FINISH HIM is flashing, you have a certain allotted amount of time to due a fatality. It is fairly simple to pull off 1-3 of them with simple button pushing, but you can do as many as you wish. The more experienced you are with the game's controls, the more you'll be able to pull off. There is one catch however, with each fatality you pull-off, the amount of time lessens for you to pull-off the next one. So you have to be quicker about it as you progress. What makes this feature dry is that the individual character fatalities are gone. Disc space, once again, is the reason for this. So the fatalities are nothing more than simple ripping off of limbs, busting skulls, etc.
The graphics are still looking good here. But they do seem to look slightly more bland than in the previous two installments due to the large roster. The arenas and characters, although still very nicely detailed, are not quite as detailed as they were in Deception or Deadly Alliance. Nevertheless, they are still very well done.
The gameplay is still very good here. The characters are relatively easy to control. What I like about this installment is that the boss characters are much easier to defeat than they were in previous games; like Kintaro, Shao Kahn, Motaro, etc. They are not the cheap AI fighters they were in previous MK games. Also, in the two previous Kombat games each fighter had three fighting sets. Two hand-to-hand styles and one weapon. But due to disc space, the max you will see here is two. Some of the characters, like Onaga, only have one. While it seems like a loss, it's not all that big of a loss. Of course it would be interesting to see some characters, like Onaga, have a weapon as well.
Mortal Kombat Armageddon is a Mortal Kombat fan's dream game! With over sixty fighters, everyone is surely going to try beating the game with a vast number of characters. The only drawback to the game are the quality of the unlockables in The Krypt, the extras, and the fact that in Arcade mode, there are only about eight fighters you have to go through before getting to Blaze (the boss). For a game that has a story that points to the coming of an apocalypse, the amount of fighters you have to go through seems very small. Too bad there wasn't an option you could choose like in Mortal Kombat 3 and Trilogy where there were different tiers with a different number of fighters in it. The only way to get a good challenge out of this is to simply up the difficulty level.
The game, overall, is really what we had expected: A Mortal Kombat game with every fighter available for us to use! Sure we were hoping for some extras that would keep us occupied as well like the previous two installments, but isn't the main reason we are buying this game is so we can play as all the characters? That is the main attraction here and it delivers! Armageddon will most certainly go down as one, if not, the best MK game to date and is sure to be a big seller with Christmas right around the corner!
I highly recommend this game to any Mortal Kombat fan!

INTRODUCTION:
The Mortal Kombat series is, well, anything but mortal. Ever since its birth in 1992, the series has been loved and hated by many. With its unique take on the fighting game genre, as well as blood and gore galore, it's the series that has taken the world by storm and never let go. After a lengthy hiatus following 1998's Mortal Kombat 4, the series made a comeback in recent years with games like Deadly Alliance and Shaolin Monks. The most recent entry in the series in Armageddon.
OVERVIEW:
Mortal Kombat Armageddon was released in 2006. The game features numerous gameplay modes, including traditional arcade play, Motor Kombat, Endurance, Konquest, and a Kreate-A-Fighter mode. The fighting roster features every playable character from every traditional MK game so far.
REVIEW:
When the Mortal Kombat series went on an extended hiatus following the release of Mortal Kombat 4, a lot of people forgot about the series and lost interest. I was amongst them. New titles began to surface, but I paid them little attention. But as soon as a friend of mine introduced me to Armageddon, I was almost instantly back into the series. MK is back with a vengeance. And this is the finest installment to date.
-THE GOOD-
-HUGE CHARACTER ROSTER. Every character ever featured in a Mortal Kombat game as a normal, playable character or a boss, is playable here. From the well-known members of the cast like Sub-Zero and Scorpion, right down to the forgotten characters like Reiko and Kabal, they're all here. The characters from the most recent installments on modern systems appear too. Plus there are a few new characters. The total roster comes out to around SIXTY CHARACTERS!
-KREATE A FIGHTER MODE! I honestly doubted whether or not this sort of thing had a place in the Mortal Kombat universe, but after giving it a whirl, I forgot my doubts. This system works out great. You get to customize your character's appearance, moves, backstory, and plenty of other stuff. You start the game with limited options, but can unlock new moves and clothes in other gameplay modes, and with the currency you get in other modes.
-MOTOR KOMBAT. The real oddity here, but fun nonetheless. Imagine Mario Kart but with Mortal Kombat characters and gore. It's a fun, simplistic game, but definitely worth checking out.
-ENDURANCE MODE. Think you're the best MK player out there? Then take a fighter and pit them against opponent after opponent until you die. It's the ultimate test of skill.
-TONS OF UNLOCKABLES. Throughout various game modes, you'll earn currency you can trade for unlockables. These include pieces of music, alternate character outfits, new levels, concept art, videos - the list goes on! This aspect of the game definitely adds something the old pre-hiatus games lacked. The currency can be earned in nearly every mode of the game, as well.
-MULTIPLE FIGHTING STYLES AND WEAPONS FOR CHARACTERS. Weapon fighting, which was godawful in Mortal Kombat 4, is perfected in this game. The fighting styles appeared in other recent titles as well, and they definitely add something to the experience.
-KONQUEST MODE. This is essentially a story-oriented mode revolving around the new character Taven, and it mixes Shaolin Monks-style action/adventure play, as well as traditional MK one-on-one deathmatches. In this mode you can find plenty of unlockables, further adding to the mode's value.
-MAKE OUR OWN FATALITY. This is an innovative feature, and an interesting edition to an excellent series.
-THE BAD-
-REPETITIVE PLAY IN THE KONQUEST MODE. This mode is required to unlock stuff, so you'll find yourself playing it a lot. But you'll also get frustrated by the repeated scenarios and instant death traps. They could have done a lot more to keep things fresh.
-UNEVEN COMPUTER INTELLIGENCE. Sometimes the computer plays a smart game and/or cheeses you to death, other times it doesn't seem to know what the hell it's doing.
-MOTOR KOMBAT NEEDS WORK. I think this was an excellent idea, and I'm glad they put it in the game. But the gameplay is repetitive and the control needs work. More diversity in this mode would have been nice.
-ONLY TWO FIGHTING STYLES PER CHARACTER. Not a big deal to me, but it will be to gamers who played the last few MK games which had three of them per character.
-NO CHARACTER SPECIFIC FATALITIES. I was glad to hear about the Fatality creation mode, but had no idea it would take the place of the age-old, classic, character-specific Fatalities that have defined the series since the beginning. As such, Fatality customizing gets old fast, since every character does the same things.
-NO "SPECIALTY" FATALITIES. What happened to Babalities, Friendships, Brutalities, and Animalities? I miss all this stuff. When's it coming back to the series?
OVERALL:
Mortal Kombat is back with a vengeance. If you're one of those guys who lost interest after the fourth installment, this is the entry that's good enough to get you back on the series bandwagon. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up if you're fan of the series, old or new alike, or a fan of fighting games in general.

It's Ocotber and that means another Mortal Kombat game is served up by Midway for the current gen systems. When I first heard about this game in June, I was very excited because I really enjoyed the last 2 MK fighters. The promise of every character from the series, create a fighter and improved online play sounded great. Well, the game, which is fun to play, doesn't reach the classic 5 star rating that many have given it. I like it, but I gave it 3 stars, which to me, equals an average rating. This is an average game at best, let me explain why.
This game is LOADED with content. Because of this, the developers had to scale back certain game elements in order to cram everything in. For example, in previous MK games, the fighters had up to 3 fighting styles. Now, the characters have a maximum of 2, with some characters only having one. The backgrounds and character graphics are less detailed than in previous MK games. Also, I think the custom fatality feature was put into place out of necessity, not to be revolutionary. For those who don't know, all the characters perform similar fatalities now, you just get to choose from a lengthy list of them (head rips, beheadings, arm rips, etc.). So, gone are each characters fatality that made them unique. I think this was done to save disc space, again to fit everything needed on the game disc the developers needed to cut some corners. Custom fatalities does this because now all the characters share the same fatality animations, instead of having animations that are unique to them. If you created 2 or 3 unique fatality animations for this huge number of fighters, it would fill up the game disc pretty quick. So, to me this is a step backward, not forward.
The Konquest mode, which has been really fun to play in the past, is no longer open ended like it was before. Konquest mode is now a strictly linear and scaled back version of the Shaolin Monks action game. You play as Taven and piece together his character's story which is heavily involved in the new MK tournament. It's fun at times, but not as much fun to play as previous Konquest modes have been. Konquest seems to be simply for unlocking content and coin collecting and offers little else and at times feels more like necessary busy work and not an exciting fun part of the game.
One final complaint is the fact that the actual tournament (arcade mode) is very short. Wouldn't you think that a tournament featuring every character in MK's history would have a bigger feel to it? Wouldn't it be massive in scale and scope? The big fight, must win atmosphere fans crave is completely void here. It just doesn't feel like a big deal.
Now, with all that out of the way, I have some good things to say about the game. First, we can finally play as all the boss characters. When I first heard this, I thought the boss characters would be watered down...they're not! They are just as powerful as you would hope. They're moves are limited, but they are really powerful and I can easily win the tournament with them.
Gone are all the different multi-colored coins. Now, you just collect gold coins, making it very easy to make purchases in the krypt. The krypt now allows you to see exactly what you're unlocking before you unlock it. I haven't decided if I like this or not. Sure, the frustration of making purchases from previous games is gone, but so is the surprise, which I really enjoyed.
The biggest upgrade in the series is the create a fighter feature. This is really cool and the fact that you can take your character online just makes it all the sweeter!
PS2 players have complained that the fighters can be slow and pulling off moves can be sluggish. I must say, that this is not a problem with the Xbox version, but that's simply because the Xbox runs a little faster than the PS2 thanks to the hardware.
Overall, MK Armageddon is fun, but it's not the classic that you'll keep returning to for years to come. I hope that the first MK game for the next gen systems achieves all the loafty goals that this game strived for, but didn't quite reach. It's a good game, it's just not a 5 star classic.

i like it,and i'm glad i got it because they gave it a low rating and i think it should get higher. I enjoy the konquest a little better this time, the fact that they brought out all the players scored extra points with me and the mini games was good for me enjoyable a keeper

I like the Mortal Kombat games and characters. There's a rich history to the series and through all the incarnations there's also been a familiar level of game play and fun.
The newest MK title ARMAGEDDON has all the positives that you would expect from an MK title plus the added bonus of every character in MK history available.
However, in today's gaming market it still feels kind of bare bones.
The only online option is fighting. No team kombat, chess kombat, tournaments...just fighting. That gets old real quick. Many gamers will point out that there is a racing game called MOTOR KOMBAT (which is fun if you're under 10) but from my adult perspective it's just taking up disk space that could have been better used someplace else.
Other sorry points of the new title would be: a short arcade mode (with the worst ending sequences ever...what is the motivation to win with multiple characters?), the loss of individual fatality moves, and a Krypt that offers little game play additions (so why worry about spending money in it?).
I'm giving the game 3 stars because I am a fan and for $39 it will give me a few weeks of gaming fun. But in today's day-and-age of online gaming developers need to look at providing options that will extend a game's life through replay value. Once you've done a few fights in this game you'll probably be ready to play something else.

The package arrived in great shape as well as the game itself. It's definaltely something I recommend reguardless if you've followed the Mortal Kombat story, but if you haven't, it's still an awesome game!!!!
It's now compatiable with Xbox 360!!!

I this is the best Mortal Kombat game yet. It has every character from the Mortal Kombat Universe in this game, plus 2 new characters. I like the fact that you can now create your own fatality. Killing your Kombatiant with a mix of different fatalities. The Konquest Mode is fun and the Motor Kombat is a cool racing game, like someone said in another review it's like Mario Cart. The game play is great and has lots of fighting styles. The create-a-character mode is fun and I enjoy that the most in the game. And it is Xbox 360 compatiable now. I was playing it on my 360 last night. So if your a Mortal Kombat Fan like I am, then this is the game you must own. If not and you never played a Mortal Kombat game then check it out, you might enjoy it as much as i have.

some games are very hard and u need to spend too much time.
Like the shaolin monks is very confusing.
But this one is straight forward but much easier and repeats all the time.
The moves are ok nothing that new.
I paid 40 bucks for it. Not worth it, the price dropped very soon coz it does with all the games.
