A swing and a miss.

This is what happens when video games do not have competition. It is very obvious that this game was rushed to shelves without very basic product testing. The good parts are pitching and batting. Baserunning is clumsy and fielding is horrid. In two days (maybe 10 9 inning games) the following have happened:
-Thrown out 3 runners from right field and one from center.
-Jon Miller and Joe Morgan continually get the count wrong not to mention the previous years stats.
-It looks like the shortstop has a cannon (literally) for and arm.
-Thrown out Ai players on routine plays because I timed their base rounding.
-I cannot bunt. I press Y as the book says and I cannot even get the guy to square. I have tried R thumstick too....no luck.
-Baserunning is tedious and nearly impossible when 2 or more runners are moving.
-Diving for balls on the infield is impossible because of the timing involved.
-graphics are 2-3 years old.
Again...the pitching and hitting (other than bunting) are very good. All else fails.

I am going to give it another chance but I think this one is headed for ebay.

Don't make the same mistake I did.

Terrible game play, terrible graphics, terrible playability. All I have to say is why bother buying the exclusive rights to a product and then release the worst baseball game of all time. I think I would rather play Hardball 3 on my 286 then this game.

The graphics, except for the fantastic cut scenes, look like there from my old PS1. The statistics are terrible, Toronto is rated as the 29th worst offence. Does picking up Glaus, Overby and Molina not do anything to improve the 6th best offence in the American League last year. Anyways that has nothing to do with my feelings on the game itself.

Poor playability, Poor Graphics (nice team logo cut scenes), Poor, Poor, Poor, Poor

All I can say is if you like baseball and baseball games, go against your best judgement and do not buy this game.

Poor effort with very frustrating play.

The commentary is absolutely horrible. They say strike when it's a ball, and is called a ball. Morgan's pitch analysis is more repetitive than anything I've ever heard (although it gives you a good reason to mix up your pitch selection). Apparently Morgan doesn't know what the "BP" in BP Fastball stands for, either. The announcing also can't read the stats correctly, everyone had 0 HR and 0 RBI, or 0 wins last season. The fielding physics and controls are garbage as well, diving is useless, and charging the ball is not allowed in many cases, taking away your chance for several outs. The pitching and hitting are okay, but not spectacular, I like the pitch location method. Baserunning stinks. The thumbstick hitting is too frustrating to stick with, I switched to the button immediately. As per usual, the pitcher characteristics are way off. Sinkerballers don't have sinkers, guys with cut fastballs don't have them, control pitchers have 98 MPH fastballs, and that's just on the Twins. I really am unimpressed coming over from MVP. Hopefully the 360 version is better. This isn't a good product.

Unplayable

This game is unplayable. Beyond the shoddy play, sometimes the fielders take their time when trying to throw people out, the game freezes on regular xbox whenever restoring a game from the WBC tourney. This game is horrendous. The worst. An abomination. An embarassment. And most of all an insult to everyone who has purchased it. Save your $40.

Please EA Sports, bring back MVP baseball!!!!!!!!

This game flat out stinks!!! The fielding is horrible. You can't charge the ball and the fielders wait for the balls to come to them instead of charging at it and making a throw. I have had pitchers get infield hits against me because the shortstop waits for the ball. Also it is impossible to make a diving stop in the infield or outfield. You can not make any highlight plays. It says to push the R button up to steal a homerun but instead you dive. The pitching is terrible. If you do not throw the ball down the middle of the zone, it will be called a ball. The opposing outfielders catch everything in sight. Like someone said, it is a mission to lay down a bunt. Baserunning is a complete joke. I don't care if you have Jose Reyes at second, you are not going to score from second to home on a soft basehit. 10 times out of 10 the runnr will be thrown out at home by a mile. It is impossible to score from second to home even on a double. The play by play is terrible. Morgan and Miller repeat the same things over and over again and sometimes the call a strike out on a a batter and have him going to the dugout when in deed there is one strike. It is just a terrible game. MVP baseball 2005 was the most realistic and enjoyable baseball games I have ever played. This piece of trash is a poor excuse for a baseball game and does not come close to sniffing MVP. All this game did was give me headaches. The makers of this game did not make an attempt to make this a decent playable game. If you want to play a good baseball game, buy MVP baseball 2005. The only enjoyable things about this game is the soundtrack and the hitting is okay. Other than that this is a horrendous game. I advise you to please save your money and don't buy this junk.

EA - Please get your MLB License back!!!

I want my MVP Baseball 2006. This is a poor substitute. The graphics are poor, the announcing is off the mark, and there are glitches galore.

WORST BASEBALL GAME EVER!!!!

I am an EA Sports guy. When EA traded away MVP it was the worst mistake in the world. I have never played an ESPN Baseball game before until this year and I will never buy another one. This game FREEZES all the time. The fielding is HORRIBLE!!!! The batting is unrealistic and when you hit a homerun you dont even know until the game unfreezes and you see yourself cross the plate. I HATE THIS GAME!!!!! It is almost a month into the major league season and they still don't have a roster update. The rosters are not even close!!!! They have Coco Crisp still on the Indians and every roster in this game is WRONG!!!! DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!! I have returned mine and am going to stick with MVP 2005!!! PLEASE EA SPORTS DO SOMETHING HELP US MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL FANS OUT!!!!

Not to jump on the bandwagon but . . .

This game is really bad. Rosters look like they made no attempt to get them right and they are stil yet to release a downloadable update. Unlike other games, I cannot figure out a way to just go through the rosters and fix them myself.
The instruction manual leaves much to be desired as I am yet to figure out how exactly I am supposed to pitch.
I have not had the freezing problems other people have mentioned, but that may be because I haven't played the game much due to the frustrating roster problems (Sox with roughly half of the players missing or wrong).
Save your money and do not encourage this.

A True, Honest Review for MLB 2K6

okay, to start off lets start with the good things. Players stats are almost perfect, no one is overrated, and no one is underrated. Also, the teams have the identical lineup as they have in real life. Unlike MVP baseball who left out barry bonds, or even jonathan papelbon (prob the next rookie of the year) how can you leave him out?. mlb 2k6 has them. when pitching, you can change the velocity of the pitch, to change the amount of movement the pitch has. (example, if you hold down the curve ball button longer=more velocity=more drop to the curveball) The franchise mode is fun because they have a pregame show while it loads so u can find out more info about the team youre playing.(like in real life). and also, unlike MVP THE CATCHER THROWS IT BACK TO YOU AFTER YOU PITCH THE BALL. the ball just doesnt dissapear like in MVP. Batting is also fun in this game.David Ortiz can actually hit one hit in this game, unlike MVP. alright, now lets move on to the bad parts. First off, running looks all messed up, the players twitch when they run, and it actually looks hilarius. next, people are too fast. Manny Ramirez beat out an infield hit, wich is also pretty funny. The pitching is kind of difficult to master because when u first play its set for the pitch to start breaking where the cursor is, so if you wanted a curveball low, youd have to aim way up. you can change this by going to the options and changing that around. you can also change the way you bat, because the first time you play, its set to swing using the analog stick, u can also change this by going to the options and changing the batting options to "Classic". They also use too many of the same batting stances. thats about it. Overall this game is fun, but the wacky stuff lowered my rating a little bit This is a good value, and if you get it, u should also check out the World Baseball Classic, its a good addition too. Well i hope this review helped you, and dont waste your money and time on crappy MVP, MLB 2k6 is a great baseball game, and you will enjoy to play it a lot :)

--- One out, runner on third. Deep fly ball to LF and the catch is made. Runner then tags and crosses plate while CPU left fielder throws to third and runner is called out. Inning over. ??????????????

--- Score: Player= 3 CPU= 0 // Two outs, CPU batting with a runner on third. Ground ball to 3rd baseman who throws to first. Batter out. Runner runs in from third, inning over. Player comes up to bat and inexplicably the score is now: Player= 3 CPU= 1 // ?????????

--- Joe Morgan is calling a completely different game. Strikes are balls, balls are strikes...inside/outside, nothing matches.

--- Stadium announcer calls "George" Posada to the plate. Won't even try to describe what Paul Konerko sounds like!

--- Runner on first, no outs. Batter sac bunts soft grounder down first base line. Runner freezes until pitcher picks up ball and throws to 2nd base. Ummmmm????

This game was obviously programmed by the same people that make the cheap shirts you can buy at Wal-Mart...probably World Cup freaks that don't know a fly ball from a fly swatter.

Only good thing about game is the fairly impressive graphic accuracy of the ballparks...at least the few I have bothered to see.

This game goes in the Garage Sale pile.

DO NOT BUY --- Rent it if you want to check the accuracy of my review...but you'd do better to save that $$$ for a dog and soda at a real game...

Perhaps Bud Selig was the consultant on this game? That would make perfect sense...
