A True, Honest Review for MLB 2K6

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 5 / 8

okay, to start off lets start with the good things. Players stats are almost perfect, no one is overrated, and no one is underrated. Also, the teams have the identical lineup as they have in real life. Unlike MVP baseball who left out barry bonds, or even jonathan papelbon (prob the next rookie of the year) how can you leave him out?. mlb 2k6 has them. when pitching, you can change the velocity of the pitch, to change the amount of movement the pitch has. (example, if you hold down the curve ball button longer=more velocity=more drop to the curveball) The franchise mode is fun because they have a pregame show while it loads so u can find out more info about the team youre playing.(like in real life). and also, unlike MVP THE CATCHER THROWS IT BACK TO YOU AFTER YOU PITCH THE BALL. the ball just doesnt dissapear like in MVP. Batting is also fun in this game.David Ortiz can actually hit one hit in this game, unlike MVP. alright, now lets move on to the bad parts. First off, running looks all messed up, the players twitch when they run, and it actually looks hilarius. next, people are too fast. Manny Ramirez beat out an infield hit, wich is also pretty funny. The pitching is kind of difficult to master because when u first play its set for the pitch to start breaking where the cursor is, so if you wanted a curveball low, youd have to aim way up. you can change this by going to the options and changing that around. you can also change the way you bat, because the first time you play, its set to swing using the analog stick, u can also change this by going to the options and changing the batting options to "Classic". They also use too many of the same batting stances. thats about it. Overall this game is fun, but the wacky stuff lowered my rating a little bit This is a good value, and if you get it, u should also check out the World Baseball Classic, its a good addition too. Well i hope this review helped you, and dont waste your money and time on crappy MVP, MLB 2k6 is a great baseball game, and you will enjoy to play it a lot :)

Excellent game...!

I think this game is excellent... the graphics are improved, the game play is easy and very realistic. The pitching interface is easy to use and once you understand it you?ll have a lot of fun with the braking balls. The batting is diferent and more realistic this year with the "Swing stick"; you can also use the "Classic swing" with the normal buttons if you like. With the fielding you have to practice, in order to master the new "momentum" of the players, but it?s not difficult at all. With this feature 2K Sports is adding realism to the game, trying to emulate the laws of phisycs. One key element for the game this year is the "Inside Edge" scouting reports, which are very accurate and usefull, specially in season or GM modes. You can customize every aspect of the game in the "Game Settings", like the stamina of the pitchers, the contact of the batters, the frecuency of the base stealing, the range of the infildres, etc., etc. I see a lot of frustated MPV fans that have played MLB 2K6 2 or 3 times, and they?re already talking bad about this game...actually my brother use to play MVP before, and this year he tried the 2K6...at first he was a little bit apprehensive, but once he got use to it (after 2 games) he had a lot of fun...at the end he had to admit that this game is very good and in many aspects better than EA?s MVP...We?re going to play a full season of 2K6 now...!

Not as good as MVP, but I liked it

I was upset when i found out that EA SPORTS lost the rights to MLB games for the next few years. so i dragged myself to some game store to buy a used copy. anyway, i was pleasently surprised by this game because looking at the vidcaps i didnt think that i would like it. i loved the gameplay, even though the graphics were a step down from MVP. This game is very addicting and that's why i bought this game for the second time (i gave my first copy to my brother).

Well, just let me say something.....

For one, I don't know what's all the crying about. Ok, granted that everything in this game is'nt picture perfect. But then again, what baseball game out there trully is??? To be honest, I have'nt really seen a picture perfect baseball videogame sine "World Series Baseball 2" (96) for the sega saturn, for the time that, that came out... I just think that there are alot of people out there who are very ingratefull about accepting a videogame for whatever it's worth. Look, trying to make a videogame to everybody's likings in the world is merely impossible (you can't please everybody)... Yes, I have to agree that there are some things that could have been made different, but none the less, I think that this is a good game... You know what gets me is the fact that there are people out there giving this so called "MVP Baseball 2K5" better ratings. Come on, for real... Man, get out of here with that trash!!! For one, you want to talk about graphics and stuff??? Well let me tell you that those baseball players images looks like the bobble heads... Ain't no freaking player looks like that in real life!!! And I don't care how much they try to make their faces look real. I heard that EA sports lost their rights to make anymore MLB games, good!!! Because just for that alone (among other things) was a dissgrace to the sport of "BASEBALL"...

not fun

very simply- if you liked and loved played MVP Baseball 2005, you will not like this game. The games play totally different and it sucks that EA won't be able to make another MVP game.

EA - Please get your MLB License back!!!

I want my MVP Baseball 2006. This is a poor substitute. The graphics are poor, the announcing is off the mark, and there are glitches galore.

I did not buy this game when it first came out. I waited until I found on the internet for a very low price, and I'm glad I did. I've really tried to talk myself into this game by trying to think of the positives, but the truth is that this game is just really sad.
To me, the first thing that I notice about any game is the graphics. This game, compared to the MVP games, is just really sad to look at. The players really just do not look real at all. At times it almost reminds me of MLB 2002 for my PS1. When two players collide (which happens far too often) they just fall straight to the ground and bounce back up.
Just like a lot of the reviews on here point out, the rosters are not up-to-date at all. I'm a Cardinals and a Red Sox fan. They left Crisp and Pena off of the Sox and if I'm pretty sure those moves happened pretty early in the year. The Cardinals roster was a complete disaster. John Rodriguez and Brad Thompson, the Cardinals top two rookies from 05, are not on the game at all and neither is Wainwright who debuted last year. Jason Marquis' best pitch is a power sinker and he doesn't even have one on here. Obviously these are not huge problems and not ones that I cannot fix. The problem is that every roster is off. And I really don't want to buy a new sports game and have to spend hours trying to get the roster right.
There are so many problems with this game. The baserunning is very difficult with multiple baserunners, the fielders all throw lasers around the field, it's almost impossible to dive, and the players look like they're tripping over their own feet while they run.
The thing that made me dislike this game the most is the fact the the new Busch Stadium is not on it. I know this is its first year, but there have been drawings and models of that thing for atleast two years now.
My suggestion to the 2K people is that they need get some people who really know baseball in there to help make next year's game. These problems need to be fixed and they absolutely need to do something major to improve these graphics.
I am a little confused on why EA doesn't have a MLB game this year. I've heard that 2K has the rights and all of that, but their were two other baseball games out this year. I know one had Papi on the cover and the other had five or six different players on the cover. No matter what the reason is, I hope EA Sports is allowed to make a game for the 07 season. MVP and Madden is about all the video games I play so I hope we'll see a new MVP next year. Until then, just try to keep your MVP rosters undated and do not waste your money on this game.

Not the best, but not the worst

This game is a big step from last years but there are alot of bad things too. Like if you run into the wall you stay down for 30 seconds while all the baserunners score. Graphics are mediocre (compared to MVP 2005). Good things are the swing stick control makes game more realistic and a little more challenging. Overall it is very fun once you get used to it, but you will be frustrated sometimes when you are getting used to it and when you get picked off at a base when you round it after a hit.

this game was not really good

Well, I've had this game for over a year. I've played hundreds of 9-inning games. It is fun to play but there are a ton of glitches. Players can run through one another and its easy to throw out a person from deep in the outfield.

The commentary is the worst part. It hardly ever matches the actual game play. One specific example comes to mind. I was playing a season game, in the bottom of the second inning. I was winning 2-1 and each team had 4 hits. After striking out a computer (AI) player for the second out in the inning, Jon Miller says "And look at that Joe, he struck him out and he is now 1 out from a no-hitter." As I said, each team had already had 4 hits.

Also, when you switch positions during a game, the statistics will almost always be given to the player who is no longer in the game. For example, say your shortstop gets injured after his first at bat in a game, and you move your 2nd baseman over to shortstop and bring in a new 2nd baseman. For the rest of the game, your injured shortstop will recieve all of the stats of the 2nd baseman that was moved to shortstop. Pretty wierd.

But, after saying all of that, I still play the game and will continue to do so.
