Much too hyped, hoped for, but still good.

First off, I'm going to get it out in the open- This game was hyped too much. For that reason alone, people, particularly xbox fanatics were starting to think of it as the Next Coming or something. The game, unfortunately, did not really satisfy all the grand expectations placed on it, but even so, it was still a very good game.
To make this review as thorough as possible, I'm going to break it down into categories.
STORY: Ok, this is probably where the game's biggest letdown happens. For one thing, players expecting to enjoy a story solely focused on Master Chief will be disappointed. Why? Because the game's storyline is actually sort of two. It focuses on Master Chief, and the Covenant's Arbiter (a disgraced Elite commander, who is given the Arbiter's armor to make amends).
My biggest gripe with this decision by Bungie, is that it felt, to me at least, that the Arbiter's portion of the game was way longer than it should have been. Yes, it's fun seeing another point of view, but did it really accomplish much? Other than show that the (I forget their names, so I'll call them priests) Priests, who dictate how the Covenant acts are not being all that truthful about what their ultimate plan is. I really can't go into much detail without spoiling the meager plot, as it is. Oh, yeah, throw in the supposed power grab by the Brutes to displace the Elites as the guardians of the Covenant (an obvious plot device to introduce those annoying enemies more widely into the game).
Some storyline inconsistencies make me wonder if Bungie knows where the story is going. For one thing, they never did explain how Master Chief got back- they glossed it over with the cliche, "It's classified." It's my belief now, that when Bungie made the first Halo game, they didn't really have a full story worked out- something that I think would have been needed, especially if they are planning to split the games into fragments of it, by putting in those cliffhangers at the end of every game.
Anyway, the weakest part of Halo 2, is the story, which ends abruptly, and does not reallly address or add depth to the series. (I have not read the books, and I'm basing this on having played Halo and Halo 2 only- maybe the books add something else). It seems that the Halo story is turning into a bunch of cliche's tacked on together- Aliens attack humans for no reason, aliens attack Earth, Aliens are more powerful and are kicking human butt, Alien devices are hidden on Earth that pose great danger or can save mankind, an even older alien/evil is found (under the depths of the ocean, no less-haha), etc. In fact, it seems to me that they are going for the angle that the makers of the Halos might have had something to do with Humankind's birth.
GAMEPLAY: Ok, I've heard many Halo2 fanatics, for lack of a better word, make is seem as though this Halo was significantly different from the first. It's not. There is one addition to the gameplay, the double wielding of weapons, which is nice, but not really anything you "have" to use. You can beat the game just fine without double wielding once, and in fact, the best weapons in the game (energy sword, shotgun, brute shot) don't let you double wield anyway. So, maybe you'll use it in early levels, but once you get the nice weapons, you'll probably just skip it.
Other than that, I didn't really noticed anything else that would be considered different. It felt like the first Halo, except that now, they added the annoying Brutes; which their name should give you a clue as to how their AI is. It's a very dumb AI, making them easy to kill, although, you better make sure your aim is dead on, because if not, they go into this berserker mode; annoying as hell, because it's just the AI ramming you to death. The best way to kill those Brutes is just to throw sticky plasma grenades at them and see them blow up (Made easier if you play as the Arbiter, since he can cloak, and you basically just walk up to a Brute and throw the grenade at him point blank, run until the cloak is ready again, and repeat.) Fighting Brutes becomes a chore after a while, and really detracts from the overall fun in the game- especially since you are going to be fighting lots and lots of them.
Vehicles are still fun to use, except the wraiths, which still handle so badly, it's like flying a brick- maybe I'm just not good at using them, but I hate them anywhow. The scorpion tank is definetly the coolest, while the warthog still remains the speed demon it was since the first Halo.
GRAPHICS: Another letdown, mostly because of the hype surrounding this game. For the longest time, Halo2 fanatics were very loud about their assertions that Halo2 was equal or better than two other (then) upcoming FPS games, Doom3 and Half life 2. Of course, we now know that this is an utter falsehood, considering that Doom3 and HL2 spank Halo2 in the graphics department. I also didn't really see that much difference from Halo and Halo2 in terms of graphics, but that is probably because I played Halo on a high end PC computer, making it look much nicer than it does on the console.
I do admit that the cutscenes in Halo2 are excellent. They are well crafted, with more than generous use of bump mapping, which makes them truly beautiful. They are definately 3 or 4 levels higher than the in-game graphics, but it's still amazing that the xbox can pull off such graphics, despite its age and very old tech (in comparison to current PCs that is). There are some minor glitches in the cutscenes- I've heard of this in game boards, and while I did see one of them, it was almost unnoticeable.
SOUND: Well, I'm not really a sound expert, but from where I stood, it was well done. The sound in Halo 2 is well placed, so that you always get that graphical cue when something exciting is happening. And the music is nice enough, although, when I play games, I tend to forget the music is there.
Overall, this game is worth getting. It's short, yes. It has some levels that are quite boring, and repetitive (especially when you are aboard that covenant ship, trying to find that damn priest.) Some levels gave me a headache- I don't know why, but there were times where I had to stop playing because I was starting to feel sick (first time an FPS has caused this to happen- I play a lot of FPs on the PC- so I'm thinking its probably the 60hz refresh rates on TVs as the culprit). Also, you'll see that cliffhanger coming miles away- it's as cliche as sci-fi gets- kind of reminded me of a Stargate SG1 episode (the answer lies on Earth, of course, duh.)

Halo 2 is the best game ever made for the X-box, far better than Halo 1. Xbox live makes multiplayer games fun again, instead of playing against the same people over and over again. I recommend to everyone even remotely interested in FPS, Action games, any other genres.

I have never played Halo 1 and because of that I can't make a comparison between the two. What I can tell you is that Halo 2 is a fantastic,action-packed,rip-roaring game.
The first level is on Cairo Station where you must get rid of a bomb placed by the covenant on the station.
Trust me, you'll love the video clip after this.
After the video sequence you land on Earth and do a ........................................ that's for me to know and for you to buy and find out.
A Great Game, A Few Flaws But Overall A Great Game

This game is reallly a good game for the Xbox if you own an Xbox and dont own this game you are missing out. Yea this game does have a flaws. The Graphics are a bit wierd for example when u shoot a rocket launcher. And yea some of us were expecting different types of warthogs. But overall the gameplay is solid. Its a fun game that with the Xbox live makes it a fun party game. Its not perfect but its pretty darn close.

In Halo2, there's good and there's bad! For example new weapons, vehicles, upgrades and other features, but at the same time there is the point that you only have energy shields, not health. Countering that there's the addittion of elites in multiplayer! Also, there is new weapons like the covenant rocket thing.
Then there's the vehical additions and new vehicles. What do yo think? I rate this game a 9.9 out of 10. Who could forget about highjacking vehicles while they're moving!(that's one of my favorite parts.)What's yours?
IT IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Halo 2 is an amazing game. I know that many people have already reviewed it but I want to throw in my two cents. This game (along with the original Halo) is really the best first-person shooter game on XBox, PS, and GameCube.
The graphics are amazing and very realistic. The animations are incredible and all the scenery is really awesome. The reflections, the water, the sky, and all the scenery make this game very visually pleasing.
Add to that the awesome action and you've got yourself one really fun game.
I think the multiplayer capabilities are extremely good. I play multiplayer on one TV and it's split screen-which is really fun-and the graphics are still pretty good for split screen.
I feel like the rating for this game is somewhat deceiving. Unlike games like the infamous Grand Theft Auto San Andreas where there is violence, cursing, and obscenity, this game just has some violence and gore-which actually isn't that much when you play multiplayer. Anyway I think it's rather farcical that on the news they complain so much about violence in video games and trying to prevent the little children from playing it. HELLO: the kids will find a way to play these games-you'd be amazed how many little kids play Grand Theft Auto and trying to prevent them will only motivate them to go out and see what all the fuss is about. I think though that children are smarter than we give them credit for, and obviously all the kids who play Halo and GTA haven't ran outside with guns and hijacked grannies from cars. In fact they know it's a game and it's fiction. Anyway enough social commentary...let's talk more about Halo.
The geniuses over at Bungie have been working really hard on this game for a long time. Halo 2 is unbelievable. It's really excellent (along with Halo). Go out and buy it.

I think Halo 2 is a great game. The story mode is really fun, but it is a bit short. The best part of the game is the Multiplayer mode. It is even funner if you have broadband internet and use the 2 month trial card for XBox Live. I give this game 4 stars. The reason I rated it down is because the story is short, the game ends really suddenly, and multiplayer gets boring after awhile if you do not have XBox Live. Overall, I think Halo 2 was worth the $50 though.
The Best Bungie Game Yet!!
