Great multiplayer

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 3 / 4

The main reason I buy console games is for the multiplayer option. If I want a single player game I buy it for my pc. This game is a fun hack & slash game. If you are looking for a complicated game with a wide variety of level ups this game isnt the game for you.

It does include the very basics for for an rpg, and an story line that you have to adhere to strictly whuch is very similiar to baldurs gate for the console. This game is worth buying because of the multiplayer option with up to 4 players co-op.
This game is very addictive and found myself staying up to the late hours of night playing it with my friends.

This is a good game if your looking for something to play with your friends, but if your looking for a good multiplayer rpg your better off with the morrowind series or the baldur gate games for the computer

Nothing Special,.......Believe Me !!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, if you love Dungeons and Dragons or classic Gaunlet/Diablo RPG styled games and such,.... but overall this game is very bland and somewhat boring!!! There is no innovation or nothing special that will have you saying hey this game is freaken' awesome man.... yeah!!! "Dungeons and Dragons: Heroes" is a complete clone of "Balder's Gate" similar in so many ways,.... it's actually kind of scary!!!

Yes, it was fun for a little while playing around with the 4 player co-op, which was a blast and even along withthe vast weapon and magic combos.... which gave you and your character a lot of options, when leveling up and such,..... beyond that there isn't much else to say. The level design is bland; the combat get's repetive, the graphics are choppy, and the game is overall a breeze; with maybe the exception of finding all 20 soul shards that will power up your weapons and abilites and such. The most annoying thing of all being the classic barrel/box smashing,.... hello were in the 21th century,.... be free to be more creative!!!

Besides, the flaws though the game can be fun, like the boss battles are farily fun, but it was a game I played for awhile,.... left sitting there for about a year and a half and ended up really getting into it, though the game was barely a challenge to a gamer of my level easily beating the game less than 15 hours flat, combinding all the time I actually put into the game. It is a very solid game,.... but the camera pissed me off zooming in and out at will give me a break. You do though get a bunch of Character options throughout the game. You get to choose between:

-a Fighter(Human): Built on strength/brute force and along with deffense, many physical attack combos: sweet finishing moves: ~ Assec. Weapon Sword

-a Cleric(Dwarf): Built on Wisdom and Charma, vast spell and weapon combos make this character interesting ~ Assec Weapon: Hammer

-a Wizard(Elf) Based around Intellegence and Magicial spells, and some other neat tricks ~ Assec. Weapon: Staff;

-a Rogue(Half link/ hobbit like creature) Based around Dexlerity and Technique, very small with a nice seat of daggers for serious death dealing ~ Assec Weapon (s): Daggers

Each character is unique, with customizeable inventories attack combos, spell, magic, weapons armor, and anything that you would typically find in any basic RPG or Dungeons and Dragons board game!!! Best played together: it's painfully boring at times playing alone. The only thing that makes this game shine is the 4 player co-op and the D&D liscence, .... people give this game too much credit!!! Hey, in my opinion the orginal Dungeons and Dragons game blows this out of the water,.... and hey what's even the point of buying this with the new Dungeons and Dragons: Online game coming out for the PC, along with other games like Warcraft which are 100 times better than this. You also have new RPG's out like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Fable, and so many others which are way better than this!!!

I mean heck, if you want to blow $50 hard earned on medicore material while, you could get Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic for about $20 bucks be free to it's a free country. Hey, I guess if you love RPG's or D&D you might find a lot of enjoyment,.... but this game is par in my opinion, no more....no less!!! I do think they could have had better quests as well,... for example the side quests were all stupid... and frankly pointless!!! Along with barrel/box smashing action and open treasure chest opening hunting for gold!!! It gets old after awhile,.... game developers try something new!!!

Overall, the game recieves a 3/5, no masterpiece,.... but still it does remind alot like Galunet.... and the co-op was fun as well, there is so much this game could have been better at!!!

One of the reasons I like the Xbox so much!

One thing I like about the Xbox is games that are multiplayer.
For this game, I really like the multiplayer co-op where up to four people can play as one group, coordinate with each other to defeat the bad guys, and play through the whole game together.
This game has more character development (in terms of stats and skills) than Gauntlet and is better graphically than the first Baldur's Gate. I like the addition of random monsters in the level so you can go back and still fight stuff. This is an excellent game.

Insomniacs rejoyce!

Did you enjoy Diablo, Dungeon Seige, Dark Alliance, Icewind Dale or Gauntlet?...Well, this game tops them all!!
After three days solo, I can hardly wait for some multiplayer time. There are many types of items, weapons and armor in the game(many inflict or protect you from different types of damage like Ice, fire, poison and magic). You can save your progress almost anywhere/anytime you want. Occasional rings and potions with attribute boosts keep you searching for secret areas.

way too easy!

To be honest, I am horrible at playing video games. I usually can't go anywhere close to beating a game without many months of game play and the guide book.

I beat this game in less than 12 hours of game play with no book and no help of any kind.

No challenge at all for experienced gamers!

Fun and the price finally dropped

I love hackem up games. This one combines Baulders gate style RPG with your standard hack and slash style arcade game. (ya Gauntlet is probably the best other comparison)

one thing i find rather odd are the constant reappearance of monsters. You can never clean out a section of any given area without it becomming reinhabited by the monsters. This seems to be particularly true after finishing the sub quest for that area. For example if you have to go get a sceptor from some part of the castle, you fight all the monsters on the way into that section, claim the sceptor, and the majority of those monsters have come back to life. This is great for experience, but not a likely scenario in the D&D realm.
The game camera is pretty good and is easily adjusted durring combat to give you the best vantage point. I would have liked to see it go lower giving a more character eyesight perspctive, as it is now I mostly use birds eye view to see where the combat is comming from.
One thing I would have liked to see more is the design of the character. You choose 1 of 4 heroes at the start. Essentially you are either choosing class and get stuck with whatever race they assigned it, or you choose race, and get stuck with what ever class they assigned it.
The graphics are well done. The play is smooth even with large numbers of monsters shooting and hacking at you.
Auto mapping is a very helpful feature and is quickly dismissed durring combat. one feature the designers put in on the auto map which seems rather odd is the location of special objects. This could be what you are questing for, or the person you are supposed to go talk with. Its like having an oracle at your finger tips.
Replay value, well thats rather difficult as it is an RPG, and thus once you know the story, you know the story and location of items. This is the same with most RPGs. (but most folks know that before purchasing a quest adventure)

In short, the game is fun, the graphics are great, and if you are looking for a quest adventure this could fulfill your needs. Its worth buying if you like this style of game and want to support the developers who made it so they'll make more, otherwise rent it, play it, return it and be done. :)

After reading through a dozen or so reviews of this game and BG: Dark Alliance 2, I opted for Heroes and wasn't the least bit disappointed. More hack-and-slash than RPG, it does a nice job of recreating a D&D feel without overly cluttering the gameplay. A solid assortment of skills to choose from allows you to "customize" your character as they level up, focusing on melee or ranged combat, as well as taking advantage of class-specific skills like Hide and Move Silently and Set Traps. Inventory management and attack options are handled well, the graphics are solid and the camera's 360* perspective is fluid and impressive. The four playable characters offer a nice mix of styles (the Dwarven Cleric was a pleasant surprise) and I was pleased to find that a smartly-played Rogue was able to hold his own in the solo adventure.

In my opinion, this game is just simply horrible. Its a Gauntlet rip-off. It put it in...played for about 5 mins, and knew it was a trade-in. Haven't played it since. This game is great if you need something to catch the dust on your shelf.

Nicely done. Great graphics and play is smooth... A little confusing at first with all the different button configurations but once you learn them all it becomes easier.

Interesting cheat loophole on doubling your money though... All the players gives their items and gold to one character. That character saves and hands the items and gold to another character then leaves the game. Then you reload the game at save point. You just doubled your loot.

Tired of games being adjusted and watered down to be released on all systems (selfish PS2) which gives the creators more money! But, let's us suffer with mere 2-player games? Have you been wanting to to play Dark Alliance with 2 more people? I have! And, now I can! Who cares about graphics and other crap...it has everything you like from Dark Alliance...adds 2 people and utilizes the performance of the Xbox to deliver a beautiful game!
