The new Genre, Fantasy Ancient Role playing game forget the knights'n castles

Although most RPG's are in a Medival setting this one is actually in the "Before Time" spoke of in those other games. The Romans and thier gorious era were touched on in Elder Scrolls but with a mix of other elements. This is truely a Greecian Ancient game of Gods and wisdom of the Ages(long past). this is not based on fact, yet is rendered to look and feel the mood of pre-biblical times. The drawings are perfect and the animations with fighting are subtle and epic at the same time. For instance, your character may swing to the left or right when fighting a monster. It is not robotic as in most games. Comparing it to Diablo does no justice as that game(and it's sequals) were limited in locations and the mood was always gothic more than atmospheric in the genre. If you've watched "Clash of Titans" or played "Rygar" this is much like it(in atmosphere) and of course layered in character developement. You pick from serveral tiers of interest and then hone those skills accoridingly either focus on individual skills or raise an entire class structure and focus on more powerful versions of the same one. Also metamorp abilities at the highest level are optional on some classes(not my style). As collosus giant(defense) or an elemental(Earth, Storm, Death). The dialogue is very limited to "get this goat creature and save my uncle" sort of thing and character interactioni is not there and I suppose this is the diablo part. Why they waist Dwight Schultz's voice talant in this way is beyond me. Thier is no plot dialgoue of pivital importace either as in Kain from Diablo series but it is still much more interesting than diablo in the freedom and exploration. Where as Diablo had the default character of limited scope(barbarian, assasin druid ect.) In this game, you can choose a gender and then decide what path you want to take later with any feild or skills you want and in any combonation. All action RP games and Diablo clones should use this as an example. Oh, and this is NOT a Diablo clone!

Okay

This is a good game for you if you like diablo 2, it's better and worse in some ways though:

Things I like about the game:
1) Nice graphics
2) Good skill system that lets you mix and match, and move skill points around if you change your mind
3) I like how the magic users' weapons are NOT melee like they are in Diablo, they shoot projectiles without using a skill, or mana or anything like that, kind of like using a bow.
4) If you have a powerful character, when you hit enemies they can go flying or skeletons will explode! That's pretty satisfying...
5) The portal stone! No more stupid towns of scroll portal, you can make a portal whenever you want.
6) Overall, the gameplay is smooth and convenient. Skills you use all the time can be assigned to the other mouse button, or others reserve part of your mana instead of draining it.

Things I don't like:
1) Forgettable music
2) A shameless rip off of Diablo
3) The game doesn't have much "artistic character", especially compared to Diablo, in general. The visual and audial artwork is so flat, cold, and soul-less, the video-game equivalent of Ikea furniture.
4) Boring plot
5) Side quests are utterly uncreative and add nothing to the fun of the game
6) NPCs dialog are boring filler. They drone on and on and add nothing to the game. There is no reason to talk to anyone who has a diamond over their head. You just get "There are monsters attacking, I'm so very very scared!" worded in different ways or a shallow lesson in greek mythology.
7) All the player characters look the same. They should've had more character customization since they have no classes. All you get is male or female, and you can change your tunic color, which you can't see anyway under your armor.
8) Same old annoying grid-based inventory system from diablo. At least potions can stack. Why don't they just list your items and pre-organize them for you? Instead I have to stop every so often to play a game of Klotski so I can figure out how much more stuff I can carry.
9) Buggy! I am one of those who lost a character I worked hard on when my computer crashed. Overall it did not crash for me much though. If you get the game, make sure you patch it before you play, or else you are very likely to have you character randomly deleted.
10) Personally I'm tired of this kind of game, it's so long and repetitive. There are some improvements over Diablo ii, but nothing even mildly innovative. After playing through once on normal, it seems to have no more replay value for me.

I can't comment on multiplayer, I'm not really interested in trying it, I'm more of a single-player kind of gamer in general.

Awesome!!!!

This game is so rad, covers all sorts of mythology, so not only do you play the game, but you get to learn mythology while playing it, awesome job to the game developer of this game!!!!

Despite graphic improvements and the neat ancient Greek/Egpyptian/Chinese theme, the game fell short of it's Diablo ancestors.

For one, despite the excellent graphics, particularly in the characters, the overall look didn't give you the unique impression... Athens was barely adequate and Crete didn't feel like the majestic home of the minotaurs at all, while Heraklion was barely a rude village. Egypt had some nice statues but there was an overall feeling of sameness.

Likewise the excellent music from Diablos was missing, replaced by a very bland and occasional little tune.

The voice acting in the quest givers wasn't bad but a little long winded. And a lot of the side quests were uninspiring. There was of course no online secure server and your character is stored on your home pc which is a bit sad in an online rpg these days.

Ultimately the storyline just didn't feel as epic as it could have and without a secure server all the fun loot didn't mean as much. But not a terrible game certainly.

before i say this game is b e a uuuuuu tiful i must tell u that if ur comp is anything below the latest gaming model...forget ever playing this game for now!! the requirements are extremely steep. HOWEVER...if u have a rockin' PC with enough space...ur in for an insane hack and slash time! the graphics are beautiful and the skill optinos allow u to use UR strategy! the best part is...u dont have to always walk everywhere once u get to a town and walk near a portal...u can use ur personal portal stone to return u to that town at any time! it beats walking. But i must admit that the whole map icons system takes out ALOT of the challenge in mishs! Ironlore...keep bringing these beauties to the shelves! IF U DONT BUY THIS GAME u either dont have a good pc or have no taste in games whatsoever!

Excellent game. The developers have included all the wished for features missing in many other games of this genre.

If you are going to get Titans Quest, do yourself the pleasure of getting the expansion "Titans Quest: Immortal Throne".

For a better review of this game please see my posting for Immortal Throne - DVD version.

I think one Needs to take advantage of the ability to go through where you've been. Kinda gets boring (only have a weekend? Yah, gets old). But, you can buf up for the next thing. Very cool magic(tech) tree. Graphics- good. Simple play (ala 'Diablo'). You will appreciate the inventory syst.! All in all a good game. No regrets (except having to buff up).

Could be great but it is not

I absolutley adore the Diablo series. When I found out this game was going to be a contender to knock Diablo I & II out of the top of their repsective fields, I immediatley went out and bought it.

The graphics look amazing. But they have some serious issues & bugs in this game.

After I started having problems, I went to the Tech Support forum and learned that this game should have never been released to the market.

Even if by some MIRACLE you get this game installed & begin play be forwarned that over 88% of the people are exp. total charhcter loss after levels 30 and up.

Their tech team is either non existant or inept.

Save your money. At this point even after the release of their patch (which failed to solve 99% of the reported problems) I dont think the problems will be fixable through patches.

Its a shame.

Diablo III it's not

I love playing "Diablo" and "Diablo II" but I want some new content and new maps which led me to buy "Titan Quest".

Titan Quest is being promoted as "Diablo III" and it does share some features with Diablo but it doesn't have the same feel to it. It feels more like "Sacred" with 3D graphics. On the plus side it's VERY easy to play, if you like "Diablo", "Darkstone", and "Sacred" you'll enjoy it, most functions work with a click of the mouse and you can jump in and start playing right away, with no learning curve. It's a simple minded hack and slash romp, enter an area, kill anything that moves, pick up stuff, re-equip your character, sell junk in town, get your completed quest bonus, level up and proceed to the next area. The graphics are gorgeous, it's a very pretty game. The skill system is excellent, you get to choose two "uber" skill trees to develop and you can then pick and choose branches to follow. I particularly like the critters you can summon. The Core Dweller is like a cross between The Incredible Hulk and The Human Torch, awesome.

There are a bunch of negatives though. BIG negative is the extreme system requirements, you can't play this game on a 128mb PCI video card, and you probably won't be able to run it on an integrated video chip either. I had to upgrade to a 256mb FX6200 PCI card in order to play it on low settings.
My system ran "Oblivion" and "Half Life" without a problem but this game is glitchie, freezes and stutters a lot even with the patch installed.

The game is very linear, you need to explore the entire map and go into every nook and cranny if you want to complete all of the minor quests.

Replay value is zero, on starting a new charcter I got exactly the same item drops and exactly the same maps as on the first run through.

You can't go very far off the path and whichever path you follow ALWAYS leads you to the next town in line. The voice acting is awful, annoying and repetitive, rather than feeling like I'm in Greece or Egypt it sounds like I'm in a deli on the lower east side of NYC. For the Orient area it sounds like they got the waiter at the local Chinese restaurant to do the voices in pidgin english.

The critters group in clusters around bone piles and chests, the loot comes shooting out at you. You can't go wrong if you follow one edge of the map around and attack the largest cluster of critters in sight. The backpack is too small but you get some small extra sacks eventually which increase carrying capacity a little. No stash. Interesting upgrade stuff but very awkward to use, and annoying. Usually by the time you accumulate all three or five pieces of the upgrade relic you've found a better item to use that's not upgradeable so you've ended up carrying around a bunch of useless junk.........The caves and temples are mostly small rooms and mazes. The quest system is annoying, there's no sense of doing something for a reason, you click on an NPC with a yellow exclamation point over his head, he rambles on endlessly,to the point that you tune him out, you'll need to click on your quest tab for a summary of what he wants you to do, most quests seem to involve an item the NPC lost while he was running away from the beasties but "you look like a hardy fellow" who can recover it for him...........then walk up the path, find the cave or temple, kill a bunch of critters, pick up the quest item and return it to the NPC for the quest bonus, then he'll ramble on some more and give you another task...........repeat again.

Another negative is the opening video, there's no way to turn it off, you have to watch the whole thing every time you start the game..........

All in all it's a mixed bag but if you want a game that plays like Diablo but doesn't look like Diablo there aren't a lot of choices available.
