EXCELLENT MYTHOLOGY & GREAT FUN!!!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 10 / 10

Sure this is what Diablo3 would have looked like - but this cannot be a bad thing!

Quite realistic graphics achieved even on medium range PCs (a 3year old machine with only the video card upgraded to a 7600GT can run it with everything on HIGH). I particularly liked that you can see the exact armor and weapons on your opponents and, after you killed them, everything drops for looting.

I am a great fun of D&D RPGs. In Titan Quest there is no deep background - except lots of excellent Mythology, CORRECTLY told for once. There is no "official 20-sided dice" getting thrown somewhere in the background - do you really care? Hack, slash, zap, burn and destroy. Loot, sell and buy. Repeat as needed.

You will surely enjoy it! GREAT FUN!!!

Great successor to the Diablo franchise

Fun Diablo style play with better graphics than Diablo 2 with a wider range of skill sets/options instead of set classes. It's really so close in gameplay to Diablo 2 that Blizzard's name could be on the box instead of THQ's. It really boils down to if you liked Diablo 2 you will like this game.

After about 10 hours of gameplay so far (the reviewer that said it takes "3 hours" to complete the main quest is a moron) I have seen none of the install problems, bugs or crashes described in other review. THQ has already made at least 2 updates available and with these installed the game is playing perfectly for me so far.

Hack-and-slash in the fashion of Diabalo II

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 9 / 9

Titan Quest has been described as a Diablo II clone, and boiled down, it is really close. It is all point and click: click to move, click to attack, click to pick up items. Pretty straight forward stuff. If you are familiar with Diablo II you already know what to expect. The game does have some unique differences, mainly in graphics and charachter development. Your charachter still relies on loot drops, as you did in Diablo II, but in Titan Quest you apply your skills a little differently because there are no classes to select in the beginning. When you gain a level you gain a number of skill points to apply to a skill mastery (warcraft/defense/earth/spirit/etc.). You can select your first skill mastery when you level the first time, then you can select a second one at level 8. So, instead of picking a class at the outset you create your own based on the skill mastery you select. Skill points can be spent in either skill mastery on a number of different skills, or unlocking tiers of more powerful skills. In addition to skill points you also get attribute points to increase your health and mana pools, or increase your base stats. Much like Diablo II the equipment you loot requires certain stats to be met in order to use the equipment.

So, if you like Diablo II, what is not to like about Titan Quest? The game does have its fair share of problems and some of them are quite annoying. Primarily, the graphics demands. The game requires a decent video card, and even then you can't get away from the annoying video lag/stuttering. I think this is a result of the fact that the entire area is spawned when you start the game. So when you move through the areas there is no pause to load and animate the area, but you get a lot of stuttering and lag as the new areas try and draw and animate the new scenery, items and enemies. This is especially noticeable when you move into a dungeon or building, which brings us to my second observation.

When you move into a building/cave/etc. the scenery doesn't always become transparent. This means you can enter a dungeon but can't see your charachter because you still see the ceiling or the walls or another scenery item that is blocking your line of sight on your charachter. This makes it hard to target enemies and also to move your charachter. And moving your charachter isn't as easy as it should be.

Charachter movement is done by point-and-click. Seems simple enough. But a lot of the time I find myself clicking where I want my charachter to move and yet he stands motionless. Not sure why, but the click-to-move doesn't always register like it should. If you click on an area that the charachter cannot move to instead of moving as close to the area as possible sometimes he just doesn't move at all. This makes it especially annoying when you don't realize that there is something invalid about the area you are clicking on. The game has great scenery, but that scenery can also make moving your charachter that much more difficult, as your charachter will constantly get hung up on scenery you don't see, or that the games pathfinding (which isn't good) doesn't immediately find a way around. This is probably my biggest hangup with the game, the really poor click-to-move. So, in summation, a lot of times you click and your charachter doesn't follow the command or just stands there. Sometimes, you can be close enough to an enemy that they can strike you and yet your attacks miss and I find that I have to circle the enemy or move away and then move back before my charachter will be in range to strike back. Again, not sure why, but it is definately annoying. Ok, moving on.

In Diablo II there was a unique feature when you loaded the game. I'm not talking about the way enemies/chests/etc. respawned (that works the same way in Titan Quest), I'm talking about how Diablo II would randomly generate the world maps for your charachter. Well, Titan Quest doesn't do that. The world you see is the world you get no matter how many times you load the game with different charachters. The scenery, the enemies and the chests are all going to be in pretty much the same place. Not a big negative, and it makes navigation simpler, but it does take away that constant sense of adventure you got in Diablo II.

The last item I'm going to cover is loot and money. Loot is so easy to get in this game. It is somewhat expected because the enemies drop the gear you see them carrying, which is nice. But the amount of magical gear and the money you can get for that gear, means you can build up a hefty bank account in no time. And if you don't like the gear you have you can keep reloading the game and fighting your way to the nearest majestic chest which will spit out a handful of magical items each time you open it. It doesn't take a long time of doing this before you have pretty decent gear and a lot of money. However, I haven't seen that much value to money as I'm often selling but rarely buying anything from the vendors. So far, the items the vendors sell is of less quality than what you are finding scattered everywhere in your travels. This may change in the latter portion of the game...maybe...

Ok, so if the game is so flawed, why 4 stars? Granted, the game has its quirks and it definately launched with some bugs, but over all it is fun in that mindless way. If you like Diablo II I think you will like this game as well, as long as you are patient enough to deal with the occasional annoyance. Enjoy.

One of the Best Games I've Played This Year

Titan Quest is extremely fun and addictive. It reminds me a lot of another game called Diablo. I loved playing Diablo in the past and no game has come out like Diablo until now. If you liked Diablo you'll definitely love Titan Quest.

Titan Quest follows Greek mythology. There are many different monsters and creatures that you fight through out the game. This game has a lot of replay value. The maps in the game are linear but the maps are also huge. There are a lot of caves and temple dwellings to explore just like there was in Diablo.

The graphics in this game are extremely beautiful. I can tell the game developer put a lot of love and attention into making this game. The amount of detail in the creatures and monsters alone is great. The game has got great looking skeletons, zombies, and spiders to fight against.

The game has a great zoom feature for zooming in and out of areas to look at. The only thing I miss seeing in the game is where you could rotate your main character around. I'm sure a future patch will eventually fix that.

You can choose to be a male or female character at the beginning of the game and you decide how you want to fight in the game. Do you want to use a sword? Or do you want to use magic? The choice is yours.

This is a fun game to play. I recommend getting this game.

Titan Quest = Diablo 3

If you ever want to play a new Diablo... I HIGHLY recommend Titan Quest. The game is a lot of fun if you like Diablo and D2. When I first started playing it, I was thinking to myself 'eh...it's aight'. After I stopped paying attention to the story line and just started hacking and slashing, I began to really love the game. If you loved the itemazation of D2, then you'll love it here. Seriously the game is Diablo 3.

I think the biggest things I like about this game compared to D2 is that everything that aggravated me about D2 was fixed in this game. It's like THQ read the Diablo forums and it's own forums to fix what the customers wanted. The game was made to be FUN and not to aggravating. For instance...when a yellow or higher item drops..you dont have to Identify it with a scroll. You can use it right away if your requirements are right. Speaking of scrolls, you dont have to use teleport scrolls. You can teleport ANYTIME you want to. So say hello to more bag space! Also remember when you were building a character in Diablo and you realized you made a horrible mistake while going up the tree...causing you to start ALL OVER? No more! You can pay to fix you stats now. Plus you can have 2 talent trees instead of just one. So you can have a Warrior with Rogue abilities...meaning you'll be an Assassin. Or what about a Warrior that can cast spells...yay now you're a Battlemage.

Some people have been saying the gfx arent that great, but compared to the only games I've ever played that are like this (D and D2), the gfx are VERY pretty. I like how the grass moves around when you running through a field and how the water leaves ripples behind it when you are running through it. This by the way is with my gfx turned ALL the way down. I can only imagine what this would like like on my home computer.

That's the downside and only really bad one I've come to notice so far. This game, for some reason, needs a pretty good computer to run it. I'm using my laptop to play this game since I'm in Iraq and thats all I have. My specs are AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology Tl-52 1.60 Gig1 gig of Ram, Nvidia GeForce Go 6150. So it's not that great of a lap top for games, but it can still run this one even though I have some big slow down issues somtimes especially when it's night in the game. STILL though, I'm having a good time with this game.

I'm really happy I bought this game. I figured it would be crap since I've not played just a straight hack and slash game since D2. To me other games just never could get the one thing down that I loved about D2. The items. I was a Mephisto, Pindlesking, Bael running FIEND back in the day. I loved to see the what crazy new items I would get and HOPEFULLY it would have the BEST stats of that item. Well the same thing is in Titan Quest. Rares, Epics, Set Items... they are all here. Even with stat variations.

I'm a happy magic finder! Dang I love this game.

P.S.
I've yet to have the game crash on me like other people are complaining about.

This is a grand old dungeon crawl, albeit set in ancient Greece and Egypt. I'm tired of waiting and waiting for D3,and if it has the same pathetic save method as D2,I'm not gonna buy it.
This game is hardly original, but since it is like 10 years+ since D1 came out,the improvement in graphics is astounding. And the SFX and music are very, very cool. I would love it if THQ put out the soundtrack by itself. It's that good.
I have been playing it now for a couple of weeks, and am extremely addicted to it as I was D1. I am looking forward to the ExP due out in March. All in all,I think THQ did a great thing for us Diablo addicts. And I'm pretty sure the XP will be lovely too.Thank you,THQ,for this gorgeous game.

Addicting Repetition

I have pretty mixed feelings about this non-stop action, hack n slash, linear, action rpg which has nice graphics, but tough to really enjoy because it hurts the gameplay. Zooming in shows the nice detail of the game, but doesn't let you function as a range attacker or see your enemies outside of 8 feet around you. The camera basically zooms into the back of your head, giving you a 3rd person angle instead of making it more 1st person, making you more of an observer, not your character. Zooming out shows off the nice landscape, with 3D cliffs, streams, hills and plateaus, but then your character gets lost behind trees, rocks and walls and you feel disconnected from the game again. This is a pretty common problem with a lot of these types of games, but then other games have been able to deal with them just fine. It sort of reminds me of the days when games moved from straight left to right video games, to the ability to move up and down on screen like King of Dragons. An improvement in the gaming world, but still had a long ways to go. I ended up playing through the game zoomed as far out as I could which still wasn't out enough to see enemy range attackers as they peppered me from somehwere offscreen. I added a mod that allowed me to zoom out even further, which has made the game much more fun and fair as a ranged attacker, so good to see they have an upgradeable type platform for the diehard programmer/gamer guys out there to help out. I'm running it at 1280X1024, so maybe a higher resolution will give a better result. Fighting monsters on the top of your screen is much better than left or right and below is an entirely different difficulty level. So enough whining about the gameplay.

The story is linear, but moves to such differently cool scenery that it keeps you interested. The constant increase in enemy difficulty keeps you looking for better gear which actually makes the replayability pretty fun on the Epic and Immortal levels. This brings me to the genius of these type of games. The shear addicting madness of trying to find new items. Finding big bosses to beat up is fun because of the chance that the treasure they have holds a new more powerful item that will make the next hour or two even more fun to plow through countless beasts, undead and demons. Being able to teleport around the map makes it easy to go back and try to get more powerful items or level up if you are having trouble in a certain area. The only problem I have is after a while, I started feeling like Pavlov's dog. Mentally trained to push the mouse button because I was being rewarded with crazy amounts of loot. Being able to reclaim your skill points with money to redistribute them is good if you find you are outmatched and messed up on your skill selection. There is hardly anything worth spending money on at the merchants, so your stash of money just gets bigger and bigger. In the beginning of the game you barely could afford anything.

It is a pretty good 5mm (5 minutes more) type of game. Before you know it, an hour and a half have gone by. It is tough to turn it off because you know you'll have to wipe out those 50 dragon beasts that took you 15 minutes to just beat because they respawn when you restart the game. This is fun, though, as there is that possibility of new items as the bosses respawn as well. It'll be great when they can make the gameplay more 1st person and you feel like you are more a part of the story and action, but maybe the overall computer hardware needs to improve before that can happen.

Well this is one of those games that I thought I'd give a try just because I was bored. If you like Neverwinter Nights and Diablo 2, this game is perfect for you. It has inventory structure of Diablo, but much more quests and subquests and a lot of places to travel to. The loading time online is actually quite fast and it's very easy to get on multiplayer and make your own server (literally 2-3 clicks!). The ping on multiplayer is generally low, and it's very easy to add people to your party, send them through your portal, and trade. The nice thing about the spells in this game is that you can actually go backwards...if later down the road you decide you want more earth spells and you have a lot of storm you can get the storm taken off to use towards earth at one of the vendors in the game. This is great for the price and I can't wait until I start playing the expansion!

Comparable to other hack n' slash...

I cannot yet review Immortal Throne, although I have it. I have only played up through the first release.

Titan Quest is a solid game, as well as a solid choice for burning some time. Many reviewers have covered that the game is very similar to Diablo II in mechanics and other respects. While some of that is true, the game bolsters its own very unique features to a hack and slash.

Where to start, where to start? I guess I can start by saying, the negative reviews on character customization are a little silly, honestly. When have you ever really been able to customize your looks in this type of game? While some may argue that even Diablo II had a wider variety of character looks, there's something you here you could not do there. Gender selection. To me that's a huge plus. Being a sorceress in Diablo II was cool and all, but I would have enjoyed a male character.

The game runs very smoothly, if you have the system to do it. I read plenty of "this game crashes" comments before I bought the game, and it made me a little nervous to play it. I can safely say I have never had the game crash, during any moment of play. I did, however, build myself a pretty impressive PC a while back, and it shrugs off everything I throw at it. While this may benefit me when playing, it does not benefit everyone, unfortunately. I will say at this time, the game runs beautifully. The environments are extremely detailed, the water effects equally as detailed, and not only that, but abilities and effects are just as amazingly rendered.

Graphics and openings aside, game mechanics are what people want on top of a beautiful looking game. I can say they deliver safely. You begin the game as a man, or woman with a knife, and that's really all. It immediately thrusts you into combat, given that it is hack and slash and all, and begins teaching you the controls via a little popup help window, that you can easily turn off if you like.

You do not have to wait to pick a class. As soon as you level up for the first time, you can do so. There's a handy little description on each class before you even select them that explains them, but furthermore, you can immediately change back to another class so you can kind of read ahead and "preview" what that class may hold in store for you. However, after you put your first point into the class, you're rooted. Where this really picks up, is the ability to pick a "Sub Class" at level 8. This is pretty amazing and adds to strategy in an astonishing way.

There is something I do not like however, and is the reason I gave the game an overall 4 star rating. The sound... sound sound sound! Sound is very important, and here, it's not bad, but it's far from perfect. While the background music ambience may be nice, part of the whole effect of a hack n' slash game is the noises your enemies make as you chop them to bits. The armor clanging and clashing, just the small effects that really bring you into it. The sound is flawed in this department. While these important noises are there, they are so quiet it's very, very hard to get the feel. At times it gets louder, at times it's completely silent. I thought at first it was merely my speaker configuration, but after a quick fix, I realized just as quickly that it was the game itself. If TQ could release a patch to fix this little problem, I would adore it. It really takes away from the whole experience in my opinion.

Overall this is a well rounded buy, and for me it's given me some fun and interest, and provided plenty of special planning and fun for the game's challenges. So far, my favorite combination seems to be Dream/Fighting Mastery. Seems pretty top notch.

If you think Diablo was fun !!!!

PROS: Diablo II has been my favorite game for many years and then my son gave me Titan Quest. I hate to say Goodbye To Diablo But Titan Quest is my new love. I can't wait for the new expansion "Immortal Throne" that was just released to get here. You will need a lot of memory and maybe a better Graphics card to really get the most out of Titan Quest but it is well worth it. It is very simmiler to Diablo in many ways but that's where it ends. My son's Puter isn't strong enough to play it so he has been driving up here every weekend just to play it ,if that tells you anything.
CONS: It will be a end to a lot of your free time.
