This Sucks

This is the worst game ever. Your skater is so smelly. Is smells like CRAP. He also walks like he has to take a CRAP. I hate it it is so annoing! You can only do 4 grab tricks, 4 lip tricks, 4 flip tricks, and 4 grinds. The only other thing is Specials. Don't buy this game! This is not a joke!

What Happened to the Graphics???

Now maybe it's me, but I thought the graphics in the last of the series, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, were much better than the graphics for Tony Hawk Underground. There were a lot of glitches with the screen and many of the things you can do are made bad by the low-pixel graphics. The people are pretty badly-made compared to THPS4 and so are the automobiles.

The plot for this game is alright. It is pretty basic but they did a lot with it. There was one thing that annoyed me about the plot the whole time --Why are you helping everyone??? You play a punk skater!!! Why are you running or riding around looking to help people. Most of the goals didn't mae that much sense. Most of the goals were fun, though.

The game will be more or less fun if you're a skateboarder. There's two ways to look at it from that point of view. The first is, "Wow, this game is completely unrealistic! You can do 360s and sometimes 540s right on the sidewalk without a ramp." Or the second way would be, "Sweet! I could never do this stuff in real life! And look at all the cool obstacles!" I kind of had both of those in mind just so I could review it correctly.

The game isn't very challenging. It took me three days to beat and I probably played it two hours per day. I was playing it on Average or Medium the entire time, though. So if you want a real challenge, put it one Very Hard or Sick Mode. (I think that's what it's called.) A really good gamer would be done with this one in hours because there are really no dilemas other than trying to prove yourself as a skater.

The levels you play on are fantastic. The graphics are alright and the objects to grind and jump on are sweet. Some of the levels include Moscow (same Moscow used in Twisted Metal), New Jersey and the Secret level (my personal favorite), Hotter than Hell. It is a KISS stage where you can collect the letters K-I-S-S and the band will apear for you.

So altogether, the game is good. It is enjoyable enough to beat a couple of times. Everyone will have different complaints but in the end you will probably like it a little or a lot.

Good but over-hyped

Don't get me wrong - this is a good game. I just think some of the "ground-breaking" elements it's supposed to contain aren't really that ground-breaking.

In Underground you are to progress through a story mode by which you start with nothing and end up as king of the skating world, all the while battling your once-friend-turned-enemy Eric. Throughout the story you complete several goals and missions to progress on to the next level. Once completing the story mode you unlock a secret level, a Kiss Concert arena, which is one of the coolest levels, by the way.

At this point you can return to previous levels and search for all the hidden goodies, learn new tricks, create your own tricks, or create a park for that matter. It's definitely an improvement over Tony Hawk 4 and is clearly the definitive skateboarding simulator.

First I'll give you the positives. The game has a great deal of online features allowing you to share parks, tricks, etc. online, as well as compete in online tournaments. It also seems to be very faithful to presenting a real simulation of skating and doesn't allow you to defy physics too much, except for the rail rides and surviving horrific falls.

Now the hype.

Underground is lauded as a game that let's you "get off your board and walk around." Um...have you ever played a game called "Grand Theft Auto?" You can walk around - and do a whole lot more. I'm sorry, I don't really find the fact that you can "walk" to be earth-shattering.

I also feel the game is a little *too* real. For example, take SSX. This is a game that gives you a real sense of controlling a snowboarder careening down a mountain, but at the same time let's you completely disobey gravity at your will. Underground isn't really like this. If you are actually a skater I'm sure that compared to reality the Tony Hawk games are awe-inspiring, but to a non-skater the air tricks are rather underwhelming and don't look all that different from what you see on ESPN2. While this is in some ways good I suppose, it leaves me wanting to be able to do more spectacular stunts.

The controls are pretty jerky. One thing I've never liked about the Tony Hawk series is the erratic control and Underground doesn't fix it. One little move and suddenly you're facing the other direction.

Lastly, the story-mode is pretty short. The only game in the series I've played is Tony Hawk 4 (so I'm not a hardened veteran) and I finished the game in only a few days with moderate playing.

I gave the game 4 stars so obviously I liked it, and yes, it's a good game. But game of year? No way. I'm not sure I get all the hype. Sorry to all the diehards of the Tony Hawk franchise.

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

face it tony hawk games are running out of good ideas for goals in there new games. back in the day you would just be crashing through boxes orgetting high scores. Now the newer games have you looking for scrap metal, picking up items from a spilled purse and collecting peanuts. on the other hand though the new the game is the better the skateing expierience. tony hawk one was so slow and so few different tricks. now you can do about any trick possible on a real skateboard(plus alot of ridiculous ones). if you just like doing different skate setups and just skateing around levels this game is number one espicially since you can walk around. the car portions are extremely fun, even though the controls are terrible for them, its still fun to spin out. really there are reasons to get this game if you already have a THPS game, but the next one probably wont be. My suggestion is buy this game, but not untill it is 15$(5 months from now). go out and rent it to. use a coupon. thats what i did.

it's great...i need more

although the ride seems story in this game, it was everything i expected. it seems as though the minor gripes i had with thps 4 were fixed for this new release. the new story mode brings the pro skater down a notch and brings you into the game, literally. there are some small but significant changes to stats, scoring and interface that will appeal to both new and old players. particularly, the customizable interfaces which allow better custom skaters, customizable decks and skateparks and you can even make or modify your tricks. unfortunately, only ps2 version allows you to play in online tournaments share all of these new custom items. overall, i wish it was longer and online play less restricted. i highly recommend renting it to see if it sucks you in too.

Great but could be better

The new Tony hawk game has had a huge improvement from the last tony hawk game. For instence you can get off your board, you can drive cars create a deck even create a trick. But one of the most significant differences was the The new story mode. Unlike the other tony hawk games this one has a plot. You get to start out as a unknown skater into a pro by entering compititions and impressing the pros.In it you can create a skater or pick a pro for differn't 2 player modes like the new game where you shoot fireballs at your opponen't by doing certain tricks. Also for Playstation 2 you can acctually get your self in the game. But with all the features the there is some downsides to the game like stuff with the game's graphic like when you run or push on the skateboard the skater's movment is fake looking and skechy. Also you can't get your face in the game if you have it for gamecube.
With all that I give the Storyline a 5/5 the Gameplay a 4.5/5 the graphics a 4/5 and an overall of 4.5/5. It's a great game and one of the most andvance games so far.

fun but easy

The fith installment in the tony hawk saga. This game there are new tricks, new skaters, and a new story mode into playing as yourself. Finally in this game your character can talk, not just have subtitles. There is a great story mode, and showing the life of a true skater. The real funny thing in this game is when your guy walks he looks like he is going to take a dump. But I really must comment on the graphics. Activision really did an amazing job developing this game. Also this game is a little more challanging than the other Tony Hawks. But I still think Tony Hawk 4 is the most challanging.

If you haven't played this game, basically where have you been for the past 7 months?

Great if you like to skate

This game is the BOMB! My mom found it at a Kohl's for 24.99. This game is good and really got me into skating. I skate everyday now.

Graphics-9 out of 10
The graphics are great, only pop- up happens sometimes.

Sound-10 out of 10
I found the Sound to be deatailed. You can hear Every ollie you do. A lot of tricks have different sounds.

Soundtrack-10 out of 10
There are a lot of good songs on here, including 3 by KISS. (=
You can disable the songs you don't like. I disabled most of the rap songs, except for the Busdriver and Deltron 3030 songs.

Gameplay: 10 out of 10.
I learned how to Acid Drop from this game. the controls for the game won't send you to the hospital like a lot of other button mashers.

BUY THIS GAME, HOMiES!
