It's Mario...how can you go wrong?

For those of us who bought the Gamecube to enjoy classic Nintendo characters and consummate Nintendo creativity, this game validates our purchase. Like Pikmin and Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Sunshine gives a fresh twist to the concepts/characters that most of us grew up with. Mario jumps, bumps, flattens, collects coins (of course), squirts, cleans, hovers and soars. Gameplay is smooth, with an easy learning curve that showcases the genius design of the Gamecube controller. Like all previous Mario games, this one proves challenging in a so-much-to-see/do-so-little-time kind of way. The graphics of Mario Sunshine aren't jaw-dropping like, say, Rogue Leader or Spiderman, but the clarity, smoothness, depth and colors of Delfino Isle offer up plenty of eye-candy. And the beloved Mario music has been given a fun tropical flavor that gets you longing for rustling palm trees and sun-drenched beaches. The FLUDD device is a hoot: cleaning graffiti and hosing down muck is more fun that it really ought to be. And like drenching an unsuspecting neighbor with a sprinkler, there's a curiously giddy delight in wandering around the island spraying its pudgy inhabitants with water. This game is a must-own for Mario fans!

I simply did not like Mario Sunshine. I expected a lot out the game, but it just hasn't met up to my standards.

Mario Sunshine has odd controls. I am particularly referring to the fact that Mario "skids" from the very beginning. Rather than stopping on a dime like in Mario 64, he skids a few feet actually before making a reverse turn. I thought the physics behind this was unexplainable and it really annoyed me as the game went along.

Well that's just a little nitpick. But that aside, this game is pretty [poor]. What a horrible story with a flamboyant name. Oh no! Mario's vacation is ruined! What will he do? He'll get rid of dirt by spraying it with water with a suggsetive looking gizmo he just *found* lying around. More mindless action; weird weird characters in the game. Very weird. A legendary sandbird. I almost laughed at the corniness. Baby bowser. What happned to the OTHER 7 koopa kids? The voice acting is awful to say the least. I simply didn't see the point in playing the game.

What ever happened to the awesome power ups like in the old games? Feathers that made you fly, racoon costumes that let you turn into statues, mushrooms that made you grow, and fireflowers!... We haven't seen Mario use fireflowers in ages. Those were classic! What about those fun levels that we remember from Mario 3 and Mario World? Nintendo, when will you bring us a decent 3-D Mario with the classic fun powers and worlds instead of all these abstract adventures with weird characters and mindless plots? And how about having Mario and Luigi in the same game as everyone has been asking? In fact, why are you denying fans what they have been clamoring for for a good deal of time? No more of this abstract nonsense; good old fashioned powerups; classic characters and classic worlds. Nintendo took everything that was classic from Mario in Mario Sunshine which is a reason why it shouldn't get a good rating.

This game is all razzle and no dazzle.

Mario's on Vacation! The Sun, The Ocean and Lots of Food...

or so he thinks!

Super Mario is back, and as Mario, Princess Peach, Gradfather Toad and all the other toad companions land on their vacation spot, Isle Delphino they discover that the place doesn't look as great as they thought it would be. They see a disgusting pile of goop in the aircraft landing area. Mario then is united with a Professor E. Gadd invention of his own, as Luigi had the E. Gadd Vacumn in Luigi's Mansion. This time Mario has his own Jet Spray!

Mario then begins his own quest...rather than his vacation as he gets blamed for the entire mess! How lucky for the great hero. Mario then joins forces with his new partner, FLUDD (E.Gadd's Invention) and off they go to fight the evil that is surrounding Isle Delphino's Mess. Goombas and Koopas are gone, but are replaced with equally fun-to-crush baddies across the adventure!

Find out what is causing all the mess, and why! Explore various areas such as Gelato Beach and Pinna Park, as this new Super Mario adventure unfolds and you begin to get sucked into the game, you won't put down your control til its all over!

Also...guess who's back...your great Dinosaur Friend who was missing in Super Mario 64 is now here! That's right, Yoshi the Great is once again re-united with Super Mario! Gobble, Gobble and Spray, but unfortunately, Yoshi has his downfalls in this game...play the game and find out where it's better to use Yoshi and where its not!

Super Mario Sunshine. A Success. For Life.

First impressions: I have actually played this game.

I have always loved Mario games, right back to the arcade games of the 1980's. I got hold of a demo copy of "Super Mario Sunshine", and got some extensive play out of it. Judging from most of the reviews here, I may be the first one.

Overall, it is quite good. The graphics are amazing, and the controls are very responsive. People who liked Super Mario 64 will find a lot of familiar territory, with enchanced graphics, but the same 3D environments. What I loved was the fluid animation, which makes it the most life-like Mario to date. As you would expect, the game is very colorful and cute in some areas. All the Mario characters you know and love are here: Mario, Luigi, Koopas, annd those Bob-ombs.

Super Mario Sunshine showcases the best of the Gamecube, from it's graphics, music, and control. From what I have played, it is an amazing game, and one that should be the standard for every Gamecube. No doubt, it is the one game that GC owners have been waiting for forever.

It's Mario, just not the same old Mario

I'll admit it, I conquerred this game about six months ago. I got bored within a couple of days. The first look, it was fun. But they took away the most interesting part of the game, jumping on enemies and crushing them. Sure, you can kind of do this, but it's not part of the game like it is in the past. I had to conquer it, just one of those things, and it was tedious to do it. But I conqerred it.

Jump to today, I needed to play Mario again. So I went back to the N64 version of the game. I had forgotten how much fun the N64 Mario was, what happened? The game is easier, storyline straight forward, and you can get through it pretty fast, and still have fun playing it. If your looking for the N64 Mario, your going to be depressed. You might as well rent this game, see if you like playing it after 3 days. Then see if you want to buy it. That's my suggestion. Or, do what I did, dust off the old N64, give it life, and kick back to a truley great game of N64 Mario.

Destined to become a classic.A definite must buy.

I always thought Luigis Mansion was a great game and while it is Mario Sunshine is even better. For one thing it has more levels and the game takes more time to beat. The graphics I admit arent as good as Luigi's Mansion's but that is made up for with the challenging gameplay. While not as diverse as Super Mario 64 it is just as much fun and you dont really care about little things like diversity or originality because the graphics and gameplay are so good. The story is simple and to the point.Shadow Mario has polluted Isle Delfino and frames Mario.Mario must clean the island and track him down.I think chasing Shadow Mario is almost as much fun as swinging Bowser by the tail in Mario 64 and the game is just as consistent. It starts out with the fabulous Bianco Hills and Ricco Harbor and my favorite level of all is Noki Bay.Thats the most fun level of all.As for the game itself, its already been called one of the best games on the Nintendo Game Cube in the official review and in my opinion its an instant classic.

Not as Good but Still Fun

As everybody knows, buying a Mario game is a safe investment since all the ones before have been fantastic. Mario Sunshine is no different. All of the moves from Mario 64 are back (except the long jump). Then there are the nice extra moves Mario gets from his water pump. The game is fun to play and will quench anyone's Mario platform thirst.

The game has some downsides, though. There are these "Special Secrets" scattered throughout the game. At first they are fun, but eventually become so daunting that it they are frustrating. Blocks are set just a little too high or far for comfort. And if Mario slips, he looses a life no matter where you are in those outrageous levels. Another frustrating thing is whenever Yoshi touches the water, he melts like the wicked witch. Hatching him over and over again will make some player's blood boil.

My biggest dislike with the game is all of the levels have similiar themes with water. Mario 64 had many different scenes for its levels- deserts, lava, rainbows and clouds, snow, and caves. Mario Sunshine's levels, though are all bright, beach scenes.

This game is still worth your money since it is so cheap now. Just don't have your hopes too high and be prepared to pull out your hair if you aren't the type of player who likes pinpoint perfection.

This game is amazingly fun. I was never a Mario fanatic, even thought I do own Double Dash and a few Mario games fot the GameBoy. This game is beautifull to look at, listen to and obviously play!! A little description:

Storyline:
This little blue dude that looks like Mario is destroying Isle Delfino and things arent looking good for Mario as he is blamed for this crime and put under a series of major cleaning up! The Storyline is good, but definitely the major coolness of this game.

Graphics:
Amazing. So colored. The characters look all excellent. Textures are also nice to look at.

Sound:
Classic Mario tunes, a bit tuned up and remixed. Voice acting is probably the game's lowest point. It isnt awfull, but pretty bad. Luckily there isnt much of it, so it doesnt bother me. FLUDD really sound awfull, though. Little sound effects such as water splashes, walking and moving scenery is great and adds to the irony.

Gameplay:
Great. Sometimes can get a little frustrating cause of camera dodgyness but isnt a major problems.

Overall:
Despose the very minor negative points in this game, and while it may not be for everyone, give it a go. And dont give up after few shrines collected. it get better and better as you go on.

Disappointing follow up to Super Mario 64...

This game was setup in a very similar fashion to Mario 64, but the good old mario feeling wasnt there for me...

Isle Delfino didnt do it for me. The thing about mario 64 that i loved so much was the diversity of the levels. You start off in a familiar mario setting, but the next worlds are a snow mountain, a lake world, a ghost house, lava world, sand world, clock world, cloud world, etc. But in Mario Sunshine, the levels are basically all the same beach setting. It all seemed the same and it got so old! And as much fun as it was in Mario 64 to find the 8 red coins, it was just tedious and unoriginal in Sunshine, especially with the blue coins added. I dont want to collect coins so much!

The biggest let down in this game for me, and im sure there are others that may have felt the same, but where the heck was the long jump!!!! I couldnt believe it was missing in this game! I HATED that stupid nozzle attachment! I know it was an integral part of the story, but the story was stupid and seemed like no real thought was put into it. And this game seemed wayyyy to kiddie to me. The nozzle's voice irritated me to death, and i hate how Peach is such a ditz now. Make her somewhat intelligent, or atleast not so Jessica Simpson like! And i liked how mario looked and all in Mario 64, but they need to update him a bit! They keep making him look like little Fred Savage from the Wonder Years with a fake mustache on! If you look at mario in the original NES game, he looks a bit older looking, and not so cartoonish. I guess they could make him cartoonish, but he really does look like a little chubby kid with a fake mustache.

I really tried to like this game. I forced myself to keep playing through sometimes. I got to about 20 stars, but i just couldnt keep playing through these levels that all seemed the same. The boss missions were really disappointing! Too easy, just seemed like i was playing a children's game. I am 23 years old and i felt kinda embarrased playing this. They needed to make it a little bit harder for the older crowd, the die hard mario funs of the late 80s and early 90s.

I know alot of people love this game, but as a huge fan of mario 64, this game just didnt have the same feel to it. The play mechanics and graphics are all very good however. This is a very well made game, but im rating this game on my personal feeling of it. I am not saying its a bad game, just not for me
