This is one of the best games ever made. when i first got i spent all my free time trying to beat the game. thats how good it is. As you probaly heard in other reviews, there is the new space fights. But i really like the jedi v.s. sith fights. IN these fights, you can be any jedi or sith and fight aganist the oppisite team. You have a unlimated amount of lives. It relaly is alot of fun. Try and get this game and fight as the sith so they can rule the world!

Excellent

First off, this game is a MASSIVE improvement over the first Battlefront. I can't even begin to describe how much more there is in this sequel. Space combat, the ability to play various heroes and villians, etc. (though unfortunately you still can't play heroes/villians in space). The maps, while there are significantly more of them, are still somewhat uninventive and there is no ability to speak of for destroying/affecting your environment (ie: blowing furniture up...woohoo!). Other than these smallish flaws, the game is damn near flawless. It's one I keep coming back to to play and I'm not even an FPS (first person shooter) fan. Get it, you'll be happy you did.

Awsome Game!! Worth the Money.

First let me say that I began with KoToR 2 and ended up returning it do to a lack of dynamic or MP support. But that is a review for another page.

First, BF2 is superb in every way but this review will focus on the MP side of the game as I have not gone too far in SP. The space maps are huge and well designed along with an array of ships to choose from. However, if you don't want to just fly around all game, you can land your ship in a Destroyer bay and run around with your weapon drawn cutting down the enemy. Very nice to go from Space to ship in a single map rather than just be stuck in one or the other... The ship environment is also a refreshing thing as you can enter the control room on your own battle cruiser, sit at a control panel and operate the turret guns. I mean these space maps are just unlike any other online MP game as usually you are only allowed a certain gun or certain item to use. I think the space maps alone make the game worth it.

Ground battle maps are also fantastic, reminiscent of Halo in some aspects with the vehicles and different stationary weapons to utilize. The map selections are so big it would be impossible to review each one but Hoth definitely stands out as a great map. You can use any number of vehicles, Ton Tons and stationary weapons. Sniper rifles, rocket launchers, shotgun or any assortment of handheld mobile weapons are available as well. With most games, I would be fine without the shotty or rocket launcher.... but whatever, in this game it is not as bad as others since the maps are so big that it makes no difference, especially if you have them scoped in with a sniper rifle from across the map. There is nothing they can do with their noob weapons.

Con - As with any game there is a con. This game has sooo many controls that it takes a long while to get used to them. You are going to have to spend some time learning pretty much the position of every key on your keyboard to be able to fully enjoy every aspect of the game. I myself had an easier time, I work in IT and use a keyboard every single day but others may find it frustrating at first. Stay with it and eventually you will do fine.

All in all, there is not a whole lot of bad things to say. I come from Medal of Honor:Allied Assault, Jedi Academy, Halo, Splinter Cell and others and I can honestly say that Star Wars Battlefront II is the next generation of online play mixing space battles and ground battles with fully interactive environments, not just your standard run and guns. Good luck, it is a good choice.

The Force is strong with this game!

BATTLEFRONT was a terrific game. In fact, it's one of the best "shooter" games I've ever played. For that very reason, I was a little skeptical about BATTLEFRONT 2. Like good movies, sequels to worthwhile video games frequently tend to fall short of the original.

To my delight, my worries were tossed out within a few hours of gameplay. To my great surprise, B2 is actually better(!) than the original! I expressed a sense of great relief at this.

B2 is good in that it's not simply another rendition of the original with some new maps. Yes, it has plenty of new maps, but that's just for starters. It also has some new units and new vehicles that are pretty fun. Best of all, however, is the fact that in this game you can actually be a Jedi Knight.

In the first one Jedi's were a pain in the posterior unless they happened to be on your team. They were basically invincible with only a couple ways of being killed (i.e.: running them over or blowing them off a catwalk w/a grenade). In B2 they are fierce warriors, but beatable. When you are one, it's great to wield your light sabor, but just remember your enemies CAN kill you.

Another area in which they did a serious upgrade was in dog-fighting. It was obvious in the first BATTLEFRONT that flying X-Wing fighters et all was basically an afterthought. The main thrust was infantry operations on the ground. In B2 you can actually stalk & shoot down enemy spacecraft and there are several different fighter / bombers to choose from. You can also board enemy ships & blow stuff up with hand-held bombs. This alone is one of the most enticing factors of the game.

I like STAR WARS but am not a fanatic. That said, I LOVE both BATTLEFRONT games. Like its predecessor, B2 has a great shelf-life. It's not the kind of game you play all the way through & then trade in for a different game. You can play each scenario using different units, vehicles & the like. That makes its shelf life absolutely off-the-scale. Believe me, both games are a GREAT way of working out frustrations after a long day @ the office.

A very good game, but not quite great

This is a very ambitious game that tries to include nearly everything in the Star Wars universe--from Jedis and high-tech weapons to space battles and land invasions--in a single package. For the most part, it pulls this off credibly.

Gameplay: This game is primarily a first-person shooter, although it includes some simple flight simulation and strategic gameplay. The single-player campaign focuses on Darth Vader's unit, the 501st squad of Clone troopers seen in the most recent Star Wars movies. Over the course of about 16 missions, you'll go from classic location to location, fighting against rebels, Wookies, droid armies, Jedi, and others as you tighten the emperor's grasp upon the galaxy. There are a couple truly great missions. For example, the best mission of the campaign was a reenactment of the capture and invasion of Princess Leia's ship, as seen at the beginnning of Episode IV. It's an intense, nearly perfect rendition of the movie scene, with Vader and his army of stormtroopers entering the captured ship through a hole blasted in its hull and battling it out with rebels. Overall, the campaign is well put together and should last 15-20 hours. My major complaint is that the missions vary wildly in difficulty, from those which should be easily finished by casual gamers to others that will require as many as 10-20 attempts to complete for even a serious gamer. Needless to say, your frustration level will likely get high after trying to conquer Hoth (the last and toughest mission) after the tenth failed attempt.

The game has three gameplay modes. First, there are space battles. Generally, these are well done. The ships are detailed and scaled well, and you get an opportunity to fly many different kinds of craft. You can even land inside of an enemy capital ship, destroy vital systems, shoot it out with enemy soldier, and even fly off in an enemy ship. The flight simulation feels a lot like the old X-wing and TIE fighter games, but with vastly improved graphics. The second part of the game--and the major focus--is the land battles. These involve fighting to control certain points of the map, which produce reinforcements for your army. As long as you have reinforcements, you respawn after dying and can choose from among several classes to return as (e.g., trooper, engineer, scout, etc). If you hold certain captured points, you'll be able to respawn as a hero character like Vader or Boba Fett. These characters are powerful, but not unstoppable, and they are usually appropriate to their environment. Playing as a Jedi is enjoyable, but does not have the same depth of control and tactics as Jedi Outcast or Jedi Academy. Still, the entrance of a hero onto the scene definitely gets noticed.

The third element of gameplay is a Risk-like game called Galactic Conquest mode that allows you to fight a computer enemy on a map of 15 planets. The object is to conquer all the planets (classic Star Wars places like Hoth, Kamino, Tattooine, etc.) and destroy the enemy fleets. It's a decent diversion for a while and should give the game some replay value. Additionally, there are various skirmish and quick-play modes. One of the draws for this game is the multiplayer capacity, which is probably quite fun though I haven't played it (I'm strictly a solo gamer).

The game is well polished, and I experienced no bugs in the campaign except that I never managed to get the imperial officer's chaingun to work. The instruction book is thin but provides the necessary basics, and there is a decent in-game tutorial. Unfortunately, the game does not allow any saves within missions, which will be a bit annoying during a few of the tougher campaign missions. However, the interface is clean and understandable and all of the controls can be customized for a keyboard, mouse, and/or gamepad.

Finally, I feared that the AI in this game was going to be bad, based on things I've read. However, it's quite acceptable in most circumstances. Enemy computer opponents will hide behind cover, try to outflank you, dodge and roll, snipe at you, and so forth. Computer allies usually hold their own when the odds are even, but the game really wants the player to be the star here, thus you'll be doing much of the killing, capturing of points, and saving the day. So, the AI is not bad per se, it's just geared toward making the player the center of attention.

Graphics: The game looks very good. Character models, ships, terrain, and special effects are all convincing. The game has a number of cutscenes from the movies. Also, on a mid-range PC (3ghz Pentium, 1GB of RAM, Geforce 6600GT), I experienced no lag or studder in framerates, even with a lot happening on screen.

Sound: Everything was fine in this department. The grand Star Wars score played in the background at appropriate times, and all of the weapons, ships, voices, and so forth sounded as they should.

Overall, I recommend this game to anyone into the Star Wars franchise or interested in first-person shooters. If you only play the single-player component of games (like me), I would suggest waiting until the price of the game drops to about $30. This game really does beg for an expansion which could add another campaign, some more planets to add to the Galactic Campaign mode, more ships, weapons, etc. If you like playing multiplayer, then the current price ($40-$50) is a bit more justified.

Great fun, but freezes

My 9-year-old son loves this game. He also likes the Lego Star Wars games and Harry Potter type games. This is his favorite, but unfortunately it is also the most unstable. We have an upgraded NVIDIA GForce video card, so that is not the issue. From searching on the web, we have found that plenty of others have problems with this game freezing during the middle of play. We have tried download fixes from Microsoft and LucasArts to no avail. We finally reduced the problem to an acceptable level (from my son's point of view) by entering the game's options menu and reducing the video resolution to lower and lower levels. My son doesn't notice any difference in picture quality.

I rate the game so highly, because my son likes to play it so much. He can now play for at least 20 minutes without freezing. This wouldn't be too much of a problem, except that from what I understand, he can't save whenever he wants, but only at certain points in the game.

FYI, we have Windows XP Home Edition and our computer meets or exceeds all the specifications on the game for system requirements.

My biggest disappointment

As the delighted owner of the original Battlefront, I waited for this release with great anticipation. Perhaps that contributed to the disappointment, but mostly it was the poor execution and buggy implementation.

The concepts are great - Expanded space combat, jedi combat action, new weapons and a strong storyline make this a lush environment to explore.

So why only 3 stars? Problems with the sound and video on the game has impacted a lot of users (including myself, running top of the line ATI and Creative Labs hardware on a 3Ghz Dell), and the message boards at Lucas Arts are packed with desperate people who just wanted to play the game they paid for. The last 'patch' (all 26Mb of it) has cured some of the issues, and the many hundreds of posts relating to issues have been 'moved' off the main forums. In fact LA has greatly down sized the forums following the massive influx of poor feedback in late 2005. There are still issues with the game if you have certain hardware, and I would advise you to dig through the Lucas Arts support pages before purchasing to see if you will be impacted.

Bottom line is that this could have been an amazing game, and for those lucky enough not to be impacted I am sure they feel it is. However, the game was rushed to release while the movies were hot, and insufficient testing was done to prevent problems for a lot of Lucas fans.

We deserved better, so did the franchise.

A Masterpiece, plus PC version has more features!

I'm a die - hard SW fan, and I usally buy all the SW games. I OWN THE PS2 VERSION OF THIS GAME, BUT I AM REVIEWING THIS VERSION TO NOTIFY THE PC EXCLUSIVE FEATUERS! First, let's cover single player; the Rise of the Empire game is dark, well thought out, and a huge improvement over the original's campain. Galactic Conquest is back and better yet harder. Multiplayer is better with the added capture the flag and hunt modes. The heroes are great and powerful, and theres even a hero free-for-all mode called assult. The new special units are kick@$$. The space battles are hard and boring. Also, the squad command is'nt in BF2 (wah!) and there are no bespin or rhen var maps.
AND NOW, TO GET ON TO THE PC EXCLUSIVE FEATURES!
*XL mode, basically assult mode yet it is for all levels and you try to kill 500 enemies.
*You can fly with the jetpack charahters (Dark trooper, jet trooper, jango fett, and boba fett) for an unlimited amount of time.
*PC version has the best graphics out of the 4 versions
Well, thats all I have to say. It's a must have game and #3 in the top 5 games of 2005(#1 being RE4 and #2 being call of duty 2)
Transmission out

This is one more hit for the Battlefront series! The force is with it!
