When I order it, I purchased it half and half with my nephew.. and I though that it will be a very bad purchase, however I do no repent.. when playing with several people you get pretty excited, that's the benefit of multiplayer games, that you can have fun with friends.. the graphics are good, and it's a fun game.

A Great Tennis Game. I loved it on the N64, and now I love it even more. Especially all the mini games you play to unlock other courts or characters. The mini games is a blessing to the game espacially if you are playing alone. But get a few friends and make it a night. The power ups are a great addition on the court. Kinda like Mario Kart meets Mario Tennis. No go buy the game!

This has been the best tennis game ever! Which tennis game ever had Power Shots. Which tennis game ever had a funny movie at the begginning. Which tennis game ever had outakes at the credits when you finish a tornament. None other then Mario Power Tennis.Oh yeah! there is 4 unlockable characters. Wiggler(defensive), Paratroopa(techniche),Fly Guy(tricky), and Petey Piranah(power). 4 unlockable special games Mechanichal Bowser Mayhem, Volley Blooper, Coin Collectors, and Ballon Panic. There is also an unlockable tornament which is the Star Tornament.

I rented this game and liked it in the begining but later I got bored. When I played the tournament I realized the new power shots are sometimes impossible to hit and if a player misses the ball they can use a power shot to get it back in play. Some of the regular shots are cheap to, and this makes me very frustrated. So when you get this game turn off the power shots.

Woah man.

At first, I was a little put off with certain aspects of the game. I was expecting it to be almost exactly like the first to a tee. But I was wrong. And I'm glad! Mario Power Tennis is something else. It now has a feature where you can have distractions all over the court causing you to trip and slip all over, even slowing down sometimes if you hit them. Don't worry though, if you don't like them you can turn them off (in 2 Player mode). The gameplay is awesome and just as intense, if not more so than the first. Especially the one on one matches where you have to play the full court alone.
There are 3 unlockable characters if I'm not mistaken but I won't give them away here. One big disappointment for me was that Toad somehow was left out of this one as a playable character.

Better than the first without a doubt

Mario Power Tennis is a huge step forward from the last. Everything about this game is better. There are mini games, which you start out with 5 but you can unlock more when you win tournaments. There are better stages and a lot more options. The only thing that I can say is bad with this game is the "powershot" that each player has. Each player can use their powershots anytime in the game, which slows down the gameplay because everything stops and you watch your opponent or yourself make their move. In exhibition mode there is an option to turn this off but when you play tournaments you have to live with it. Other than that, there are no other problems. This game flows smoothly and will provide you with hours of fun. The mini games is what brings the game all together. It's not just another tennis game, Mario and Co. make it exciting with the way they play it and their special weapons. There are countless mini games available that you can unlock which makes you more determined to play the tournament mode. There is no way you can get bored with this game because you have so many different things you can do. Of course, if you're one of the few who do like to play the regular tennis, then you can set the options to do so. So, as you can see, this game can be played by anyone of any age. You don't necessarily have to be a kid to play this, even though Nintendo is known for making adorable harmless games for the younger audience. This game is for all ages. If you're contemplating whether to spend the $50 on this game, stop. This game is well worth the money.

I love tennis. It's my favorite sport ever. I own a gamecube, and I was just dying for some company to make a game with real players like Federer and Roddick. However, this was the closest that I could find so I got it. I have to say, this game is great! You don't need any tennis skill at all to play this. The power-ups make the game fun and challenging. If you want a more vintage tennis feel, just turn the power-ups off, no problem. Each character has their strengths and weakeness which helps with the strategy part of the game.

This is my favorite mario game ever and once you get it, it'll be yours too. It gets you hooked from the minute you hit the first ball. Get it, it's amazing, challengng, fun, and just everything a game could have.

Mario sport games are fun but they need more

Most people who buy sport games don't even play the sports. I've been playing tennis for like 5 years now.

10/10 Stars

Being a fan of the first Mario Tennis I was excited to hear that they were making a new one and bought it immediately after release. Games these days are getting easier!!!!!!!!!!If you were looking for the same challenge as was in the first one, this game is easier. Most people would find smashes very hard to reach against power players and their serves, but they lowered the "speed" of the balls making those out of reach balls possible to get. Smoother gameplay makes the games seem to go faster than those of the original game. Each person has their own defensive power and offensive power which can return out of reach balls or send your foes sprawling. I believe Nintendo will stop Mario Tennis games for a while and go over with the Mario Soccer and Baseball. New gimmick courts that have special themes that make the floor move, enemies that grab on to you and slow you down, sludge which also slows you down, and etc. Probably a must have game for 2005. New special games are tennis-themed mini-games that are great for multiplayer. Basically everything else is same. Also some new characters.

Mario Power Tennis is Awsome. I play it alot. The four-player action is awsome. I have Mario Tennis party's all the time and we have the greatest time playing together. We laugh the whole time. It is awsome. Everyone has a power shot. They help you reach distant balls and just smash the ball back to your opponent. There are three main modes: Exhibition,Tournament, and special games. Exhibition is where you have fun with your friends. Tournament you play against the computer. Special games are technically Tennis Mini-Games. All-in-all it's a super fun game.

a mario game with tennis elements

I remember mario tennis for the nintendo 64. It was good fun because it had a simple 2 button control scheme, and was accessable and fun enough for a beginner to come play and win. Well, Mario Power Tennis is now available for the gamecube, and Im glad to say, it is just as fun, and even better than before.

The basics are the same: Run around the tennis court as one of your favorite nintendo mascots, hitting A to deliver a topspin or B to slice, or a combination of the two to either lob or drop. If you hit the button before the ball comes, you can charge your shot, as well as aim it to make it harder to hit. The system is a lot deeper than that though, because shots accurately move depending on how fast the ball was traveling, where it was hit, and how high it was hit. The system is deep, but accessable.

There are new features, one of which is the ability to do powerful, game-stopping super moves once your character has charged up. Each character has 2 power moves, offensive (super powerful only near the ball) and defensive (retreives the ball if it is far away). These for the most part add to the game, adding a layer of strategy. The animations of the character's power shot are zany and funny... for the first few times. After a while, stopping the game to watch these moves gets sort of annoying, bt fortunatley, there is the option to turn them off during exhibition mode.

Another change is the new "gimmick" courses. Besides the standard courts, each themed court has a obstical or hazard to face. Some of them work well and are fun to play on, such as the blooper stage where the stage is constantly changing shape depending how you play, or the Wario court, which is made entirely from moving conveyor belts. Others are annoying and not fun, such as Delfino Plaza where slime covers sections of the court and ou have to push a button on the court to clean it, or the Luigis mansion court which has ghosts who like to terrorize you while you are playing.

You might go through tournament (single player) mode a few times to unlock characters and stuff, but it is not interesting enough to keep your attention for very long. What will keep you coming back is multiplayer mode. Playing with fiends is always fun, and you can even play some tennis themed minigames with friends. There is enough characters, modes, courts, and variety to keep you busy for a long time.

As for the technical side, graphics are good, but they are very bright and kiddie. You wont really notice the graphics while playing, you will almost feel like you are plaing the n64, because the games are so similar, and characters look the same from afar. Music is good, sounds are accurate, but character noises can get a little annoying. If you have ever played a Mario game before, you should be fine.

Overall it is a fun game that does enough right to warrant a purchase for those who like to have fun. I give it a 4/5.
