Nice idea but lots of frustrating problems

I am a recent sims player, and this is the first expansion pack I bought. While there are some neat features, I am disappointed overall with this expansion pack.

First, it runs very slowly on my computer.

Second, the game itself seems a lot different now. It's a lot harder to build and keep relationships. One of my sims was romantically involved with another sim, and that relationship completely fell apart when I installed Unleashed. I have no idea what changed. There are a lot more possible interactions between sims, but a lot of them are mean and the sims tend to react a lot more poorly towards one another now.

Third, I experienced a lot of technical problems. The sims would spin around in circles for no reason, refuse to sit and watch TV, and floods would happen *under* items where you couldn't clean them up. A patch helped, but my sims still spin too much. Also, going to Old Town is really difficult. For some reason you can only take your entire family. Also, the sims get drained of energy really quickly and it's almost impossible to keep them in a good mood. Finally, the high speed function when the sims are out of the house or asleep no longer works well, which slows the game down considerably.

It's fun to be able to grow vegetables and have pets. I've found that tomatoes are the best to grow because if you tend to them regularly, you can get almost a continual harvest. I haven't had any problems with pests destroying my gardens (even without pets to hunt them). But it takes a lot of time and energy to keep even a tiny garden plot going.

The pets can also be annoying. There are just too many strays running around. They mess up your yard and bring your room score way down. They wander into your house uninvited. They can bring your social score up quickly, though. It's also difficult to keep your own pets in a good mood because you can't control their actions.

This was a great idea, but I feel it has changed the game in more bad ways than good. I become frustrated when playing the game because of all the little annoyances.

The Sims Unleashed - yeah!

I don't personally have this game, but my best friend does. We both have The Sims, and I have Vacation. My friend is totally and completely obsessed with animals, so when TSU came out, she almost instantly called me. I liked the game too, and she got it the day after it came out as a late birthday present (her birthday was Sept. 20th, and it came out the 23rd!). Now she always plays it!

The game is so much fun! You can have pets (obviously), gardens, go down town, and there's now thirty neighborhood lots! One dissapointing thing is that you can't control your pets. You can tell if your dog or cat wants to go to the bathroom, but you can't send them to a fire hydrant or a litter box. This game is still number one on my Christmas List, but keep that one aspect in mind when you buy the game.

Woof Woof, Pant Pant, *Whizzzzzzzzz*

"The Sims UNLEASHED!? Oh my gosh!" my first thoughts said! I have all of The Sims expansion packs and, of course, The Sims.
My sister and I were absolutely gaga over the prospect of, yet ANOTHER Sims feature to keep us glued happily to the screen.

After installation, I really had a LOT of fun with the game, but I do have a few comments, which bring it's rating down to a 4 Star:

*The introduction is SO LONG (the part where you sit there looking at a blue screen with The Sims Unleashed Copyright, etc. etc. and all those hilarious little titles flash across the bottom of the screen, ie, Reticulating Splines)
*The pets walking past your house pee so much!!!! I have to work hard to get the yard rating up when my girl goes to work!
*SO many pests walk past your house! I have to get up at least once every 2 days to call the Animal Control.
*You may have to download the patch for Unleashed from thesims.com, because, otherwise, you will have flooding underneath your objects, (most commonly, your bathtub).

But there ARE things which I LOVE about this game,
*The Animal Care career track only takes 8 FRIENDS to get to the top! It's not a huge salary, I believe about 1,050 simoleans, but hey, I think a sim could live off of that!
*The pets just strolling by your house or your own pets can bring up your social motive FAST if you'll just pet and play with them.

Now, I know it looks like I have so many more bad things to say than the good things, but, really, I totally enjoy having this expansion pack! It makes things really fun. For those of you who have already mastered careers, having a pet to master is fun too! I recommend this game to anyone with The Sims.

Finally sim pets :)

I will try to make this short and sweet. The Sims world has changed my life as far as video gaming goes. I have been an avid simmer since the first installment. I have made the sims communities such as thesimsresource.com a huge part of my internet time and overall life. After thousands of downloads for the game and learning to create my own skins(people) and objects for the game it is safe to say that I have literally spen a few hundred hours to say the absolute least on the Sims games. Finally an installment where the sims can have their very own pets! The pig is ok but it is about time for this to happen. With over 125 new objects and 5 new careers, The Sims Unleashed is a must buy for any Simmer out there. I highly recomment purchasing this game and guarantee that this is one of the finest installments yet.

Got it and yes, I liked it

Well! I just got the new expansion pack and what can I tell you except yes, it's fun. It's interesting for me to note that once I get bored with the last expansion pack, they come out with a new one.

Alright, enough of that... you want the details! Well, yes, you can buy pets. A variety of dogs and cats, I'm sure you've read, which pretty much has everyone buzzing. They do tricks, you can rub their tummies, you can give them treats and scold them when they pee on the floor. They're pretty much like Sim pets (you'll understand when you see it.) You can breed them and they'll have either a puppy or a kitten (which if you don't take care of the mother, the animal protection agency comes and gets the baby, which I don't get one bit because they keep taking my kittens.)

You also get a bunch of strays that walk all around your yard and you can shoo them away or maybe befriend them. Your pets also can catch garden pests (including the cat bringing you the dead mouse) and they even chase away a racoon named "El Bandito." Very cute.

Now for downtown. Old Town is interesting as they've "rezoned" your neighborhood and included shops next to residential areas and parks. I guess this is Maxis' way of making "a city." I liked the idea of expanding the neighborhood, because it always seemed too small. Now, it seems a little more like a real neighborhood. Anyway, yes, it's cute... technically, the same as Hot Date as you have a new area to go to for shopping (and your pets come along as well as on Vacation.) Also, there's a farmer's market. You can buy seeds from "the farmer" and take them home, grow crops and sell them back to him or pickle them for your food cabinet to eat yourself. Sounds like easy money, right?

Not really. Planting the seeds seems to take A LOT of effort as well as weeding and watering which take forever. I thought it might be fun... but... I was slightly disappointed in how very difficult it was to do this and not tick off my Sim. Selling them back isn't very profitable (you make a better profit off of paintings) and I wouldn't mind some farm equipment to make it easier which reminds me: "MAXIS PLEASE MAKE SIM FARMER." (Hey, sounds like fun to me...)

Anyway, the Old Town is like Downtown except you have parks for your pets and actual play equipment. You can buy your pets stuff such as collars, toys and treats (stock up on the last one). As for beds and cat trees, that stuff you get in buy/build mode. (Nice part: there's a little dog print that shows you where all the animal accessories are so you don't have to search endlessly)

As for this trainer, I haven't seen anything related to who he/she is, but maybe it's like the old lady and we'll see her later. Also, you can get your animal judged for a ribbon. You'll be trying to get your pet to do tricks and behave and see if you can get first prize.

How do they get these skills? Well, it does start with training at home. Yes, your SimPet has to accumulate skills just like your sim does. The cat for instance has to work at hunting, being housebroken and tricks. Hard part? You can't click your SimPet onto a book and click Read... you have to get your Sim to train him and if one or both aren't in a good mood, forget it! Actually, it's pretty funny in that aspect but hard.

There is new furniture including (finally!) a variety of spiral staircases that are very neat looking and designed elegantly. Also, a few window designs and doors as well as decorations, such as old type photos, a new fountain and these tiny jets that spurt up water (like in the mall.) A variety of new trees and shrubbery are available (including a weeping willow that actually looks like one) and some new furniture that's geared towards more rustic style (say 1920s farmer) or more Victorian, but not so gaudy.

Bad parts? Well...this is a BIG game. When you see it, you'll understand what I mean when I say it doesn't seem like much, but it's a TWO disc set and my Maxis folder on my harddrive is already 2GB and that's without a load of downloads, just the expansion packs. I actually had to move stuff off my system because it needed so much room. I'm wondering how many more packs Maxis will release before it's just impossible to keep going. Who knows?

Anyway, yes it's fun. Animal lovers will go nuts over this. It does keep you busy and you'll get a kick out of the animals. As for the garden, word of advice: make the garden into a greenhouse. That way the bunnies and gophers will back off. ;) You'll like this.

Great, but...

This is definitely the best expansion pack for me, being the extreme animal lover that I am, and just before it came out my friend (who does not have any of the games) said how they needed pets. Then I saw an ad in a magazine for it, and I bought it same day. The biggest problem is the inability to really control the pets. And you can't pick their personas, and you don't now what it is until you pay 399 for them. Not that money is a problem, once you know the proper cheats... But still, all in all, I think this was a worthwhile purchase.

the best exspansion yet

The sims unleashed is based on three new subjects: Residential and community zones in yor neighborhood, PETS, and gardening. when i'm talking about residential and community zones i mean they're adding 40 new building slotes in your neighborhood then you get to zone them ether residential or community. in community you can build pet stores farmers markets or cafe stores.
the main subject in the game is pets. you can buy over 12 diffrent kinds of dogs and over 12 diffrent kinds of cats you can also have a turtle lizard giant parrot love bird or parakkete. if you've bought a dog or cat, at the pet store, you have to traine it you can ether hire some one to do it or do it your self. as fare as gardening goes you can live of tomatoes carrots and ether kinds of vegitables and fruit. once you've planted your garden you can harvest and eat or sell at farmers market.

A fun add-on, but has its problems

The Sims Unleased expansion pack is a fun add on for The Sims. You can have pets, get larger neighborhoods, and grow a garden. When you buy your pet, you are able to buy either a cat or a dog, and be able to choose its color. The neighborhoods are now larger with more streets, lots, and even a few businesses like gardening stores and pet shops. You can also grow a garden with tomatoes, beans, etc. and have to tend to them and get rid of pests. Though this expansion pack is very entertaining, there are some things that I find fairly annoying. It loads and runs slower as compared with previous addons. The neighborhood just has too many stray animals wandering around, and it can become tiresome shooing them away. It also is annoying and stupid for stray dogs and cats to be able to open the door and come right on in your house. Aside from its few problems and annoyances, I recommened any Sims fan get this if they either want to have a pet, a garden, or a larger neighborhood, but those users who do not care for these things, just pass this expansion pack by.

A great expansion

"Sims Unleashed" is one of the more fun expansions for the original game. Granted, all of the previous expansions add something new to the game. "Hot Date" adds the opportunity to go downtown and interact and actually date people. "Vacation" allows our Sims to go on that must needed Vacation. But now with "Unleashed", you can finally have what you have been thinking about since buying the original game, PETS! Yes, you can adopt a dog, cat, iguana, bird, different kinds of all of them. It is definately an amazing addition to the game. You have to housetrain your pets. You can teach them to do tricks. You have to scold them if they do something wrong. And just like Sims interacting with Sims, they now have to interact with these pets and build a relationship with them. It is quite fun. Anyone who is a Sims fan, or just beginning to get into the world, needs this game. It is a great addition to the world of the Sims!

A great game overall

This game is a lot more fun that the Deluxe Edition because you actually get to go out of the house and to shop. You can buy pets and meet new people at the shops. You also get to create new stores, like pet stores, dog and cat adoption centers, gardening shops, food shops. The neighborhoods you created in Sims Deluxe are automatically transfered into the Sims Unleashed so all the people and homes you created are there waiting for you. On the down side, I wish they had more items to choose from to stock your new stores. But overall this is a very good game.
