Why does everyone HATE this game????? I loved it! In this game you can create your own characters, build your own adventures and a lot more.
GAMEPLAY:10/10 it's FINAL FANTASY, people, OK? why wouldn't the gameplay be great?
GRAPHICS: 9.10/10 I like the graphics. They are definitely GC graphics and the type of graphics that would be in an GC FF game.
MUSIC:10/10 especially because of the battle music. It's pretty SA-WEET.
NARRATING:3/10 because there isn't much, here- You Know the catch, we've heard better narration. :-).
SOUND:10/10 I like the noises. They're really awesome.
OVERALL THOUGHTS
Pretty cool. It focuses more on Combat and exploration than story. But AVOID THESE HATE REVIEWS, and just play this damn cool game today!

The game had originally seemed like it would be horrible when I first heard of it. I had made fun of the concept for months until it finally came out. My little brother rented it from a game store and I played, just for good laugh. I didn't have the Gameboy hook-up cables at the time, but the game still seemed fun enough. I thought to myself "Yeah... it's not THAT bad, but it's no FF7." And then it happened. My little brother bought a cable for himself, and his friend bought one. So when they finsihed playing I called my friend Matt H. over. We started a Multi-player adventure. I was enticed by this game. I bought two more cables and my friend Kevin M. bought one as well. We started a 4 player adventure, after picking up where me and Matt had left off. The game pulled us in so fast. We couldn't stop playing. So now we are on our 4th year in the game. We have almost finished but still, we cannot wait until we can play again today.
All in all this game would be fun if there was Friendly Fire capabilities, but overall, I give this game a 5 out of 5.

I think this is a wonderful game and I'm not going to listen if someone tries to tell me otherwise. I enjoy making up characters and towns. Of course, like any game, it gets frustrating when you lose a battle. I personally got stuck in Leuda desert and still haven't figured it out but I don't care. It didn't really matter much. I still think it is very fun and I play it a ton whenever I rent it. I don't have it yet, unfortanantly. But it is fun and awesome. I suggest you try it before you condem it.
It's a Great Game!

Captain Jag, you obviously didn't pay attention when you said 'Oh, no, fog! ruuuuun awaaaaaay! (sarcasm)' DID YOU FORGET THAT THE FOG, WHICH IS NAMED MIASMA, WAS FATALY POISONOUS?! IF YOU WERE IN THEIR WORLD, YOU WOULD CARRY THE 'BUCKET,' WICH IS CALLED THE CRYSTAL CHALICE, OR WOULD YOU RATHER BREATH DEADLY FUMES? Seriously, it does make sense. This is a great game, just not for the types of people who barely skim the reading sections of games and go for pure action. This is an RPG, and action fans won't like it to much unless playing multiplayer(wich rocks, by the way)with an RPG fan. I speak all of this out of experience. Some of the best times I've had with my action-fan friends was when playing FF:CC. And please remember that the fog and bucket have names, you cynics!

Many fans of the Final Fantasy series complain that this is not a "true" FF, as it lacks any amount of substantive plot, character interaction and development, and the series' overall trademark epicness. This is all true; however, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, though it may be something totally new and completely unorthodox for the series, carries the same immense quality in art, music, and gameplay that have set the Final Fantasy series ahead of its competitors.
FF:CC is indeed an "action RPG", in that it has no set battle sequences and no experience system per se, but rather seems like a much, much updated spiritual sequel to The Secret of Mana. Like Secret of Mana, it encourages (practically requires) multiplayer teamwork to defeat monsters and solve puzzles.
Therein is the game's largest downfall as well: without a friend or three, FF:CC can be a downright boring experience. However, utilizing the GameBoy Advance link system to hook up GameBoys to a GameCube, FF:CC offers a unique and rewarding multiplayer experience. Because every player has his or her own private screen, FF:CC can offer a large amount of character customization and tweaking throughout the game (weapons, armor, items, etc.) without making every player wait while one sets up his character. This allows for a depth of gameplay that is unmatched by any other cooperative console multiplayer game.
FF:CC may have little plot and character depth, but this is because it is largely an open-ended RPG. That is to say, the characters are little more than avatars representing the players, and character interaction occurs between friends playing the game. The plot is original but not very fleshed-out; it serves mostly as a vehicle for the game to proceed, and for some of the more interesting gameplay elements. One such element is the much-maligned crystal chalice system, by which every character, when moving inside a dungeon, must remain within a set (and clearly marked) radius of whichever character is currently holding the "crystal chalice", an item which repels the poisonous atmosphere of the Crystal Chronicles world (reminiscent of Miyazaki's "NausicaƤ", which is coincidentally the source of certain staple of the Final Fantasy series...). The crystal chalice system, far from being an impediment to the game, rather adds a new and quite fun element to the teamwork required to succeed.
The game's artwork is exceptional, offering a rich and unique world that the player can immerse himself into. The world of Crystal Chronicles is immensely sad, almost post-apocalyptic, in that everywhere except small, isolated villages, a very deadly gas covers the entire planet. It is a testament to the game's artwork and music that FF:CC remains basically a light-hearted gameplay experience. The music itself is extraordinary, having no similarity to any other game or movie soundtrack. The composer chose an array of medieval instruments on which the soundtrack is based. The effect is superb and extremely unique.
All in all, while FF:CC may not resemble any other Final Fantasy game, an indeed be ambiguous as to whether it can be called an RPG or not, a player will not be disappointed, as long as there are others willing to play along.

Finally! A game that you can walk around killing enemies. Unlike the other final fantasy games for PS2,you don't stand there waiting to get killed. In this game you can run around casting spells and attacking people with your weapon.
Also unlike the other PS2 FF games, you can choose a variety of charactors. There are four races that you can choose from (clavat, lilties, yukes, selkie). a clavat is ok in everything. A Lilty is good in speed. A Yuke is good in charging up focus attacks(a charged up attack that is 3x's the original attack).A lilty is good in speed but if you don't want a charater that lacks the speed of charging up spells and focus attacks,DO NOT PICK THIS CHARACTER!! A Selkie is long-ranged in his/her focus attack.
The ememies can look cool yet messed up. They usually attack you in twos or threes.
This Game is awesome. If you want a violent adventure game, get this!

This is what an RPG game should be... Beautiful, fun, and challenging. A game that actually makes you think. I was a fan of Final Fantasy I & II, but was disappointed to see the direction the game went in three, and was very turned off by all the games that followed. I trully dislike linear games, so I was happy to see how open-ended and rich this game was. I especially enjoyed the way Nintendo incorporated using the Gameboys with the game. If you are a fan of most of the Final Fantasy games, then you probably won't like this game... But if you enjoy a GOOD rpg game and have a hard time finding games that satisfy your longing to explore an amazing world with new challenges, then I recommend this game for you!
