Good Rental, Terrible Buy

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 0 / 1
Date: August 12, 2004

Alright, first off definetely rent this game or at least wait till the price drops down significantly.

Pros:
-Character designs are adorable.
-Get to choose how your character looks (i.e. gender, race, class)
-Moogles are adorable and fluffy
-Encompases strategy and action into some RPG elements
-Music was pleasant
-Name your own village
-Multiplayer

Cons:
-Gets repetitive very easily
-Read a diary of your adventures rather than actually see any development in character relationships
-You come across some other caravans but they all say similar things
-Little character development
-You visit the same places too often
-When you finish a year, the same dance and ritual to refresh the crystal is carried out.
-The diary entries don't change for any specific race or character
-VERY little indepth plot

Alright well, as you can see the pros and cons are somewhat evened out so I gave this game three stars overall. Really it probably deserves two stars but there is something about this game that is quite addictive when you truly get into it. I suggest it as a rental rather than a buy. Wait till it gets around $10-20 if you wish to buy it.

Frustrating

Okay, so yeah this game was alright. Graphics were astounding in their clarity and realism, but I have to say, the stupid miasma stream started to seriously grind on my nerves. When I first started the game and beat the first three boss monsters i completely forgot to change the crystal chalice's element to fire. How the hell was I to know that I would need it in the future? I mean, really, the element of the nest stream was earth so I naturally thought I needn't worry about the fire element. Stupid, stupid, stupid! When I got to the nest level I was completely lost and unable to continue, thus forcing me to start the game over, again. Someone please shoot me...

I have this game.

My first Final Fantasy game!

Unfortunately, I have never had the privelege of owning a Playstation system nor have I had the privelege of playing a Final Fantasy game for the NES and SNES systems. However, I do thank god that I own a GCN for it would be shameful for me to miss out on this great RPG. I really have no experience with heavy RPg games (except for Dragon Warrior III) but you do have to admit, Final Fantasy made a great transition from the Playstation to the GCN. The whole idea behind the game was great, not revolutinary but great. However, the part that I liked and thought was interesting is the idea of holding a crystal chalice to protect you from the Miasma. Even my younger sister loved this game, but unfortunatley, I don't own nor do I plan to own a GCN/GBA link cable, so each of us are playing a seperate file. This game isn't as short as many people tend to think. It is actually a long game, considering that their is a boss known as Raem who is the most powerful boss in the game. He is very powerful and in order to defeat him, you need to collect all the artifacts in the game in order to be strong enough to defeat him. Overall, playing as a single player isn't boring as "someone" said. in fact it is exciting. Here's the ratings:

Music: old and has this ancient Celtic mood to it which matches pretty well with the settings. (10/10)

Graphics: Very detailed and crisp graphics. Great (10/10)

Gameplay: very good. but could be a little bit better though. (7/10)

Overall: 5/5

This is a must have RPG game for any GCN owner. Whoever doesn't own this game, shouldn't call him/herself a gamer for they are a disgrace to the gaming community.

My review of the first FinalFantasy for the Gamecube
This game is really interesting, the graphics are beutyful, but the gameplay isnt that good. You start deciding what kind of character you want to be and then you can make him better by exploring the wonderful lands of the game, wich will perplex you at an instant. This game is not recommended for kids, not because of the rating, is because of the really hard way to play and frustration it may give them.

The game is a really good title for your library and is a well done game with great landscapes and fantastic music, and an excelent RPG for those who seek adventure.

The only way you can play with more than 1 player is by having at least two or more gameboyadvance's or gameboyadvance SP's with each a gameboy advance cable connector, wich is really dissapointing.

Bring a friend.

Crystal Chronicles should ONLY be played with one or two friends. I realize this requires some hefty hardware requirements, but the game simply is not fun alone. Ideally, as a multiplayer co-op, FFCC is a fantastic game. Unfortunately, it suffers from a slew of design issues. Quirky upgrade system. Frustrating enemies/levels/puzzles. Repetitive setup. It's just a hack-and-slash, after all, and not the Final Fantasy we remember. BUT-- the game has a great fantasy feel to it that is very involving and really makes you work as a team. You'll put in a good 20+ hours with it, too, and that's not bad. FFCC isn't perfect, but it's very rare you get to play a game of this nature, anyway.

This game made me hate Final fantasy until I had played others...

Seriously please do not buy this game. It's literally terrible. My ex bf loved it and he was stupid and mindless, however EVERYONE ELSE hated this game. Its boring, easy and pointless. Also to have multiple players you have to have multiple game boy advances and wires. So I had to go half and half to buy game boy advances to get my 3 friends to play with me.

I hated Final Fantasy assuming they were all like this until I played 9 then 7 and LOVED those, they had a story...there is no story at all to this game it's just stupid little battles here and there and you have to carry a chalice. I don't think there is an end you play "years" and fill said chalice then restart all levels again for next year.

This is only good if your a kid and ever played a video game before.

Pretty fun, but....

The gameplay is entertaining. I enjoy the free-based battles over turn-based and active time-based any day. The artifact system is good, but can offer a few set backs, as well. The magic system is good, too. I don't mind the fact that you lose magic after each level. And if you have something to complain about that, then just get the magic rings. I also enjoy the recipe system that's used in this game. But I never could get some smiths to forge certain items.

There are a few things that bother me. One is that you have to have GBAs and specified cables in order to do multiplayer, which I hate because I, as well as my sister and brother-in-law, have an NDS system, but there is no way to link them to the Gamecube. Another thing that is bothersome about multiplayer is the fact that one other person has to carry the chalice around, which kinda makes it pointless to do 2-player sometimes, since most of the time, the other person has to carry the chalice.

Otherwise, all in all, this is a fun game. The music is nice, graphics are good for its time, and it has some challenge to it.

frustrating.

I'd always wanted this game, but never got the gumption to buy it. I eventually purchased a used copy and was severely disappointed. as the Game Informer review says, gameplay is 'frustrating' and the plot was completely lacking. When I played i saw no point. There was no saving the world, no powering up awesome weapons, just running around in a bubble. I expected more from a game from square.
