I am very excited about this game. Usually I would wait to post until I played the game, but I was able to find the systems requirements for the game and thought that they would be helpful.

The Sims™ 2 Minimum System Specs
If you have a T&L capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM then you need at least:
800 MHz processor or better
256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 2000
At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space

If you have a non-T&L capable video card (an Intel Extreme Graphics or a Radeon 7000/VE Series) then you need at least:
2.0 GHz processor or better
256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98, or Windows 2000
At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space

I found this information on: http://thesims2.ea.com/about_system_specs.php

Fun game, better with expansion packs

The Sims 2 is a great game but different than most. If you are a fan of the original Sims, you know what I mean. Here are some pros and cons that I think are important:

PROS

* The sim designer is extremely well done, especially the facial expressions and the amount of variety you can add to the facial types is very good. Just using the tools you can create almost any kind of face including mimicking the appearance of any racial type. In the original, black and asian characters looked like appropriately skinned white people, a little weird.

I also like being able to choose formal, causal, swimsuit, etc.. Although there are only 4 sets of workout clothes (even with expansion.)

* The lifecycle is excellent, sims go through all stages of life, (and one additional stage in the expansion pack). They have babies, get married die, and all that. It's awesome!

* Adult sims can enter into any type of relationship they want including serial dating, and same-sex relationships.

* The houses are really fun to design and the 3d view really lets you get inside. I can usually mimic any of my real life friends houses, or workplaces. They instantly recognize their house.

* Looks AWESOME on flat-panel display. Very impressive.

* The "Townies" that came with the hot date expansion pack are back, so you can have a fun game even if there is only one house in your town. You can even date the mailwoman!

CONS
* My best and fastsest computer will not run the game. I am a computer engineer and have tried everything. I have over 150 computer games and they all work except for this one. Be careful if you have an Nvidia Ge force 4 with an AMD chipset. Others have complained also and the patch doesnt fix the problem.

* Free will can be frustrating. If you assign a task to a sim while he is engaged in "free will" actions, he will drop whatever he is doing and perform the new task. I have no complaints with the free will except for this, and in big families it is good to leave it on. There should be an option to queue new commands until hte current free-will action is done. It gets quite annoying with multiple sims. For example you have to sit and wait for your sim to get out of the tub before you can tell him to pick clothes to wear or he will suddenly rise up out of the bath half-dirty. Nobody wants to see that.

* The items seemed to be intentionally scaled down to make room for expansion packs. That's just cheap. Same is true with hairstyles. Shockingly the expansion pack does not add many more hairstyles, clothing options, or furniture. Also lame.

* You are limited to the angles of your walls and furniture, which limits creativity.

* The aspiration system is good but the rewards are to easy to get, and too weird. It's hard to roleplay a realistic family when you have 37 money trees, 2 Magic love inducing hot tubs, a mood elevator, 5 sunglass stands and a 4 magic baby bottle makers. The good news is you can ignore aspiration entirely without too much consequence.

* It takes too long to move betewen lots. You have to have lots of patience to enjoy the common lots.
This game is excellent. It is a great game for dads to play with their 4-10 year old girls especially (a doll house that daddy won't mind playing with.) Hope you like it.

Best Game of All Times

I started playing this game in the year 2000 when the first game "The Sims" was released and bought every single expansion pack. I also beta tested and played "The Sims Online" as well as the game console versions.

I awaited the release of The Sims 2 for years and I couldn't believe how great this game is when I played it the first time. You are actually playing a multidimensional person with ambitions, fears and desires that you must keep on a balance. But what amazed me the most is the wonderful graphics and the ability to completely customize floors, walls, clothing, skintones, hair and more. There is also a huge comunity of sim players around the world that create amazing custom content and develop gameplay strategies and, of course, modify the game to it's very extreme.

You will never grow tired of this game because it is limited to your imagination. Plus expansion packs are released twice a year for new features and improvements. I rate this game 10 on a scale of 5. Two big thumbs up!

The "New Generation" of Sims Games

The Sims 2 is a big step up from the Sims 1. First of all, your sims have a lot more depth: they have lifetime Aspirations, Wants and Fears (for example, a Want for a Sim with a family Aspiration might be "Have a Baby.") They also have more complex relationships. I think the aging system is great, too. Your Sim children can finally grow up and have children of their own. The 3-d graphics are neat (although manuevering the camera takes a little getting used to) and there are many new fun tools for building Sim houses. It is easy to get addicted to this game, and many players of the Sims spend hour after hour playing with the families they create (including me!) However, the new Sims would be a bit overwhelming for new players, and the manual and the tutorials included with the game cover only the very basics. Also, the system specifications are a bit high. Read them CAREFULLY and make sure your system can handle the Sims 2. (Also make sure not to buy the Special DVD edition if you don't have a DVD drive!) Some people have posted that the game is buggy, also. I haven't had any problem with bugs yet and I've been playing the game for over a month. For those of you worried about it, have no fear--eventually, Maxis will probably come out with a patch.
Overall, if you are a Sims fan, or you like to play simulation games, try The Sims 2. I promise that it is lots of fun!

Entertaining

This is a game that will not get forgotten and just left to collect dust. I have had this game for 2 months, and it still entertains me when I have the time to pick it up and play. The graphics are WAY better, and you get to name your neighborhoods. There are lots more bulilding features ex. you can put your house on foundation and have decks.

The socializing is also better, and more realistic. For example, it shows every sim is different, and your sims personality actually shows. A shy sim would rather not make out, and will refuse sometimes, even when married. But an outgoing sim will make out on couches before actually making out standing up yet. You also have REAL wedding ceramonies (no priest though) where they stand under the wedding arch in front of an audience. One of my guys ran away before accepting the ring, because he didn't really love the person, sometimes, when you're sim is just marrying a sim for a money, don't get married under the arch.

You're sims do get pregnant, and twins are possible, i don't know about triplets though.Aftera period of time, they give birth, the babies don't just live in their cribs either. You have to BUY a crib and changing table. You bottle feed the babies, and change their diapers too (you know it's time to change when green fumes rise off the baby). After 3 days, the baby becomes a toddler, which is even worse. You have to teach the child how to walk, talk and use a toilet. You also give them baths, and read to them. Next is when their kids. They have homework they MUST do, or their grades will drop rapidly. They can also ask for homework help to get it done quicker. As long as its done, their grade rises. When their teens, they become more independent. They no longer rely on mom's meals for they can make their own. They can invite their meet people at school and bring them home. This is an easy way to make them love eachother. Adulthood is just taking care of kids, or living a single, yet romantic life. There are elders in this game also. They judt kind linger around until they die, so I feel they are worthless, but realistic. When they die, te grim reaper comes along. You can plead to him to spare your loved one or bargain with him.

There are many new furniture pieces, and it's easy to have a room with, say, an island theme. Just buy a bed with blue sheets and light blue headboards, have aquamarine carpet, blue walls, a morracan coffee table (they do have coffee tables int his game) put a fruit arrangement on the table, and buy a fishtank.

The sims clothing has also changed, there are 6 different outfits they have that thye can wear at different times. Everyday is what they wear most of the time. Formal is what they wear to weddings. Underwear is, well, their underwear, which is what they can sleep in too. Then come PJ's, no more of those ugly looking jammies that they used to have, you can have small, little silk lingerie dresses, or plaid flannael ones. Swimsuit is another thing you can choose. You can have a puny bikini, or a one piece. And last is work out. This is just athletic wear.

This game is something that you can't stop playing! however this game should only be played by like 11-12 year olds and up.

Great buy

I am still working my way through the game but what I have seen so far I like. Every aspect of the game is cool from the creation of Sims to their deaths. I have so far created 2 families and I am working with the Broke family in Pleasantview. The head of my broke family died while pregnant and the grim reaper showed up. I thought that was interesting. The only annoying thing I can think of is the bunny that shows up when your social is real low. Only that sim can see him no other sims can. They have improved alot of things. I hope the expansion packs will be just as good. I recommend buying the DVD version so you don't have to install 5 disks.

I LOVE this game but unfortunately, there are drawbacks

Okay, I got this game a year ago and I must say this is a very good game. You can create your own family; you can pick from Toddler to Elder; you can create your own house, you can do just about anything in this game. However, no game can come without drawbacks and The Sims 2 is no exception.

Drawbacks are:

1. This game is very difficult to get through. It requires a lot of thinking and skills to have a successfully living family.

2. This game has HIGH system requirements. If you have an older computer or a computer that has average or lower-than-average motherboard components (i.e. slow processor, poor graphics card, etc.), chances are you are likely to have the game running so SLOW. I have a decent enough computer and my game runs fairly; not good but fair.

Many people have complained about the game running so slowly and it is likely to be that their computers have lower-than-average motherboard components. It is not a good idea to buy a game that requires high system requirements, such as The Sims 2 and Doom 3. You should get them only if you have a very good computer with excellent motherboard components.

End of story.

Wait til you get a new computer at least

O.k., first of all, I love the Sims. My husband hated it every time a new expansion pack came out because he knew I'd be obsessed for the next 2 weeks and he wouldn't be able to get near the computer. Sims 2 was eagerly awaited (by me;), but there are drawbacks. Serious ones. First of all, if you have an older than 2.5 year old computer, WAIT for a new computer. Mine was slow, but I was kind of expecting that - part of the reason we got a new computer was for Hot Date. I could deal with the lack of speed, basically, BUT...that particular nit-pick aside, there's not as much for the Sims 2 to do, buy, decorate with, and where ARE the pets?! Pregnancies, babies, aging gets old very quickly. I uninstalled Sims 2 and am happily makin' magic with the Sims again. Maybe with my next computer upgrade, I'll reconsider, but it's just not worth the money right now, and at $50, EA will need to do a lot more than they've done to get me back into Sims 2 land.

An AWESOME Game!

This game is great! I bought it recently and have experienced few of the glitches that most people talk about. I'm an avid sims player, but when Sims 2 came out I thought it would get boring, like the old Sims does sometimes. But it's definitly NOT boring!

So here are the pros and the cons of Sims 2

Pros:

1. Your sims have aspirations that you constantly have to fulfill, adding new challenge to gameplay. They're different according to what your sim's major aspiration is (Fortune, Knowledge, Romance, Popularity, and Family) and your sims current life situation

2. It's sooo much more fun to decorate your houses and stuff because you can change furniture colors, create basements, etc.

3. Going through the generations of your sims is neat! It's really cool to watch your sims get married, have kids, grow old and die. Then you can have THEIR kids grow up and have kids, and so on and so forth.

4. The real-life simulation on this game is GREAT! The kids get homework, your sims can get sick, get divorced, and just about everything!

Cons:

1. There ARE glitches. For a while my computer kept freezing while I played this game, so I went on Sims2.com and found some hints of what to do when this happens. The best ones I found were (a) press alt-tab and wait for a while. If this doesn't work, than do (b) press alt-F4 (this tries to close the sims 2, so a little window pops up saying "Do you want to quit?", and you can just press cancel. If both of these fail, you can always use control-alt-delete and restart your computer. You will loose your data so SAVE OFTEN.

2. Do NOT buy this game used if you want to use Sims2.com. You have to register your game and this does not work if your game has already been registered by somebody. This was a big disappointment to me, so I think I'll have to buy a second copy of this game new so I can use the website.

But all in all, I think this is a GREAT game. I would reccomend it to an old Sims fan or a new player.
