An odd thing happens after you start playing Animal Crossing for awhile: you want to go back to it; not because of an engaging story or spellbinding graphics, you just want to go back. It's probably the best example on a game system of the less is more approach, using rather primitive looking graphics but that only is a forum for the gameplay to shine through.
Story: Well, I wouldn't say it even has a story, or one worth noting. Basically, you play a character you name(male or female too) and you run into someone on a train. You're moving away from home but you don't have a place to stay so you come under the wing of Tom Nook, who runs the store you happen to move too. In order for you to live in the house you have, you have to pay off a debt, once that's finished, you're left to your own devices.
Graphics: Like I said, they're not really worth noting. Back in the Nintendo 64 days, these would've looked cool, mainly because they're so clear while the 64 had very blurry textures. It's a colorful game, especially when you have the varying seasons but don't expect nothing "holy crap!" like on here.
Sound/Music: The characters speak what myself and others most likely call "Animalese", it's gibberish but it sounds like the text they're speaking. The laughs have that chipmunk quality and the songs are funny(especially if you connect a Gameboy Advance and travel to the island). The music itself is ok, nothing buy worthy like a Final Fantasy, Zelda or Lunar soundtrack but it fits oddly.
Gameplay: This is where the game gets addicting. You have fishing contests, errands, furniture, fossil collecting, fruit planting and many other things. It's pretty much a press B or A game so basically it's a really deep and addictive game but the amount of stuff and the gameplay just seems small.
If you want something with literally no end and want to have a separate life(if people keep saying gamers have no life, well let's have another one) and no better way to have a life than with Animal Crossing.

I thought Animal Crossing for Game Cube was a good game from 2001 and 2002; it was easy to play. So if you're not good at Nintendo then Animal Crossing is a good game for you. Also there is an Animal Crossing game for Nintendo DS that you could buy. I have some tips, to get more money, sell sea shells and do jobs for other animals.

I only recently heard of this game and I went and rented it at the video store. As soon as I played it, I had to get my own copy. It's sooooo much fun!! As other reviewers explained, there is just so much to do and loads of detail. I also like that the game will virtually last forever because there is no "end" to it really. The only thing that could make this game more fun is if they made a Harry Potter theme version of it. If any Nintendo employees are reading the reviews here (and I hope they are) I would love to see a Harry Potter game like this where you could wander through the settings from the books and start out as a student at the school and get "sorted" and learn spells and stuff. You could travel by "floo powder" by typing in destination names or choosing them from a little list and stuff. Maybe you could even have Durmstrang and Beaxbatons version and students from other schools could visit each other. Endless possibilities!!
Great Entertainment for the entire family!

We received this game for Christmas and the whole family loves it. I like to work hard and make lots of money to buy things and enlarge my house. My six year old son loves to play the NES games, dig for treasure and kick the soccer balls around. Since he plays a lot while in our town and doesn't work much at all - - I think it's great that I can mail him letters with gifts inside. I send him clothes, furniture and all the NES games I find. This is a fun game to play together. I enjoy watching what him discover new people and new things as much as I love to wander around the town myself. You can't go wrong with this product - there is so much to see and do and it changes every single day. The only slightly negative thing about it is that the store closes at 10:00 (no staying up late to play while the kids are in bed) and doesn't open til after I leave for work in the morning - - and the animals go to sleep too of course so sometimes you can't complete a delivery after the animals go to bed - - so not much for a Mommy to do here late at night aside from collecting things to sell whenever the store is open next. Anyway, I digress.....Awesome game!
Better than the Sims.........

Animal Crossing is a very addicting game and somewhat related to the Sims. Its like having your own town (having a job, making friends, the whole shebang.) You can share a game with three other friends, although you all can't play at the same time. Its a game that you can never get bored of. Personaly I like designing clothes and making money (the currency is 'bells'.) It is a game that anybody can play and have fun. It is very addicting and you most likely won't get sick of it for a while after starting the game. There is a town per each memory card you own and can hold only 4 players at a time. You can visit other peoples towns (if you have their memory card.) You can also visit 'Animal Island' if you have a Game Boy Advance and a certain link cable. The characters may vary in your town and will come and go as time passes. Your characters face expressions are decided after the train ride to your town with your new friend 'Rover' who you meet on the train. Sometimes when you ride the train to another town you will not see Rover but you will meet a cat named Blanca. She has no face and will rely on you to draw a face for her from time to time. I reccomend this game to anyone.
addicting.. maybe too addicting..

When you watch someone play this game, it's boring, I admit. If I saw someone play this game I'd think, this is the stupidest game ever.
However, once you play it, it's awesome! When I first bought it, I spend three weeks playing day and night. then I stopped for a while because I got bored of it. Then my friend started playing it and was like, "have you played this?" and I got back into playing ti again. I've been playing day and night again for 2 weeks now.
I'm 21 years old and this game is great. But it's also great for younger kids. Whenever I come home from college, my 8 year old brother screams in excitement "did you bring animal crossing?!" And he'll sit and play it for a while. It's a gret game for kids, it teaches about saving your money, things about the environment, it teahces you all sorts of things about dinosaurs, fish, and insects. It's really a great game, for all ages!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED A+++
Great!

I'm into all of these 'Watch the Grass Grow' games, such as AC and Harvest Moon. Animal Crossing is a really great game! But like one of the other reviewers said, after you upgrade your house there's still things to do..but they're not as fun.
It's still great though. One thing I have a problem with. You can't decide what your person looks like. You can decide if they're a male or female, but I would like if they had the feature of designing your person. I give it 5 stars because it's one of the best game's I've ever played.
Wow!!

Animal Crossing is one of those games where if you try to explain it to someone who has never heard of the game or the concept, they'll think you're nuts. After all, there is a bunch of furry animals on the front and on the back, the activities are made to sound like a virtual coloring book. But have an open mind about this.
Animal Crossing is very different from any other game. It doesn't push you in any sort of direction. At the beginning, you have a vague idea that you want to make money, but you still don't have to if you don't want to. There are many activities, such as, chatting with the villagers, running errands for the villiagers, shopping, rearranging the furniture in your house, gardening, playing NES games (If you can find them), fishing, bug hunting, pattern making...
I like the game because it's so different. There's no enemies, health meters, time limits, anything like that. Now, most of the time that stuff is all well and good, but occasionally it can get boring.
There's one really big bad thing about this game, however. It artificially paces your progress. Initially, the store is very small, and it won't have many of the items you need to start having fun. At night, the store is closed, and all the villiagers are asleep, so there's not much to do. That is, except for one special surprise...
Other than that, Animal Crossing is a fantastic game. The things to do seem to never end. Buy it!!
P.S.: Please rate!
Great Game!!

This game is about real life. Its REALLY fun!!! THE GAME RUNS ON REAL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Time of day, month, years, It keeps track of holidays to so there is festivals. If it's your birthday the townsfolk send you presents. Whenever you start a new town, the town is ALWAYS different!!! Different villigers, different landskaping, different rivers, it's Really cool. You own a house and you could buy furniture from the store and furnish it. Buy Wallpaper and carpeting too. You could go fishing, catch bugs, dig up fossils, and you could donate it to the town museum. It's also fun to plant gardens and trees and look for shells on the beach. That's not all!! Your family members could also live in the same town and be your neighbor!!! You could send them letters
and presents! They actually receive it! If you litter in your town and you family member or friend comes on after you they will
see the trash and they are aloud to pick it up. You could cut down trees if you want to construct a grove a club there or something. Do chores for the villagers or just talk with them. Some villagers are nice and some are mean. take a walk somewhere.
That's fun too. Go to the police station and talk to the police.
Your asking why I gave the fun 4 stars instead of 5? IT GETS REPETITIVE!!! Everyday buying and selling, it get's boring waiting for an event! Well, you are aloud to set the time, but it effects your town. The game is highly addictive and it feals like it's forcing you to play because if you dont play for about a week weeds grow all over your town and cockroaches roam your house and villigers miss you. To save you have to walk all the way to your house. if you turn the game off without saving a mad mole named ressetti comes and yells at you. If your mom is calling you while your playing your mom could get mad. DONT get addicted!!!
VERY FUN GAME FOR KIDS AND ADULTS GOOD GAME BUT ALSO A BIT BORING

The game is fun very fun. It is great for kids or adults. I'm in my 20's and I do love this game but the only thing is it does get alittle boring after you work to pay of your house and walk around to look for money bags and shells ect. But the fun part about it you can design your own house and upgrade it to a bigger house after you pay Tom Nook, thats the fun part about it. Also when you write your friends letters it is hard to get them to write back, so that part I see no point in. But all and all it's very fun but yet kinda boring at certain parts of the game. Rent it first then if you like it buy it. It's a fun game!!!!!! The funny part of it is sometimes if you shake the wrong tree bees will sting you and then your walking around for a bit with a swollen face.
