Good buy for UO players.

Not sure what problem the previous reviewer had, but I've purchased a couple copies to upgrade my accounts and haven't had any issues.

The upgrade is exactly what it says it is - access to new content, a couple gift items, and some extra bonus items for early buyers. If you're a UO player, and especially if you haven't upgraded for a while, it's a nice value.

[Edited to add: If you're not a current UO player, come on in. Still the best online gaming world out there despite the dated graphics.]

Buy it elsewhere.

While Ultima Online is one of my favorite wastes of time, and a very in-depth MMORPG, I have to give this particular purchase an incredibly crappy rating. "Why?", might you ask? Here's why... the manual inside has nothing but two blank, white boxes where the registration and upgrade codes should be. In other words, I've spent $24.97 for absolutely nothing, and EA's customer support has nothing helpful to offer. You can kill my character, steal my gold, even kill my character's puppy and that's fine... it's only a game. But take my money and give me essentially nothing in return? That's against the rules.
If you plan on upgrading your account, do yourself a favor and buy it from your local video game retailer. That way, if your copy doesn't contain the codes you need, your refund is only a short drive away. While I do love Amazon and all the great buys it has to offer, I feel it's my civic duty to warn others about this crappy, crappy, CRAPPY piece of crappy crap. Thank you.

Live your character

Ultima Online is a fun interactive role playing game where you get to live the life of your character. You improve your skills, learn a trade, sell your wares, join a guild, and build a house. It's a great game to share as a family, with friends, or make new friends from all over the world. 2D is way better than 3D! CAUTION: THIS GAME IS ADDICTIVE

*NOTE* This is NOT a DVD

This product is actually 3 CD's and not a DVD as advertised above. *grumble*

Other than that, buy it! It's fun! Corp Por!

I left Ultima online when UO 3D was starting and didnt like it. I since have returned and love all the changes they have done to it. After a 5 year avsence it has been hard learning things over again but I have fallen back in love with the game.

Ultima Online

Ultima Online used to be the best of the best, with great game mechanics and adventures that you will remember for years to come. However the game has gotten a total overhaul since the good days. They now have complex magical items and artifacts. Resists are no longer simple either, there are a large variety of them and some skills are now just plain pointless.

UO used to be the best, now its on the verge of extinction (despite its steady, loyal fanbase). Another big problem with this product is the misleading label. It says that this is a DVD, when, in fact, it is a CD. I almost returned the item because of this, but figured it wouldn't matter. After returning to UO for the third time in its nearly ten year reign, I am done with the game.

On a side note, I would love to see a revamped UO. It would be great if they brought all the old UO mechanics (pre-Trammel or pre-Mondain's Legacy) to a new, 3D game. Perhaps UO2? That would be wonderful.

Ultima Online is the Ultimate in online gameing

This is one of the clasics that never gets tired.

Love the new decor!

I love the new decor in this release. It is also nice that people aren't required to purchase it. The only thing you are buying is the ability to use new house tiles, a personal attendant and shadow and crystal house tokens. UNLESS you use your upgrade/promo code before December 4th (date subject to change) for which you will also get 9 Heritage Tokens.

WARNING - 3D No Longer Supported! BAD CS!

This game used to be my absolute favorite game in the world. Now, it is useless. 100%, completely, utterly, useless.

The developers took away the 3D client in anticipation of a new 3D client that was supposed to be released "Spring, 2007", but it is May and so far it has not been released, nor has any definite release date been set. This means that folks who enjoyed the 2D client can still play, but people who only liked the 3D client cannot. The 2D client may have it's "charm" for some players, but to me, it's difficult, nay, impossible, to use.

Do those who don't know, if you get used to to 3D client for years, it is EXTREMELY awkward and clumsy to move to the 2D client later. Containers cannot be resized, meaning you can no longer find anything in them without spending HOURS (literally) moving items around in them. The size of the play screen can't be changed, meaning that on large monitors you have to struggle to see anything.

The developers have removed EXTREME functionality in the game in anticipation of a new release that is not immediately forthcoming. I will NEVER trust EA for an online game again. Removing functionality from paying customers without a suitable alternative is unacceptable!

I recommend staying far, far away from this. And I will personally never buy another online game from Electronic Arts as long as I live.

Sorry, I just do NOT understand the game. There are no online directions for me to obtain.

I am having difficulty understanding this game. There are no Online directions for this game. Often, when playing with the online characters, I have difficulty with learning character activities, such as how to fish, and other tasks for the game. I also have difficulty navigating around to the different cities. The small map, provided lacks readability, and cannot be seen very well, either. There are too many difficulties to explain. I am NOT enjoying this game, very much. I am STILL paying $ 12.95 per month for it, in hopes, that it MAY be improved, soon. Yet, if it isn't, I may be canceling the Online fees, and putting the game on a shelf, forever.
