Innovative RPG gats a sequel

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 7 / 7

Don't pass off this game as a childish series, this is a great and original game.

The story is pretty good, and offers different new features from the original, like changing the type of megaman.

The battle system is differnt an unlike ALL RPGs. It has an isometric view and you chose your move(s) when the gauge fills up. This seems to make it similar to a card game, or strategy game because each move you pick needs to be well thought out, along with the cards in your folder.

It also features a two player battle mode and chip data trade.

Hardcore megaman fans may not like the fact that it is not a platformer (but Rockman* Zero is comming out this Augest), however fancises tire if they arn't changed, and capcom saw this so the created an alternate universe series. If these fans played this game more than 5 miniuts (most gammers will be turned off this game if they don't play it form the begining because it will be too confusing) they would enjoy capcom's little references to other games.

All in all, this game is excellent and very fun, well worth the purchase. It is a great alternate approch to one of the most famous mascots in the gaming industry. So, buy this game.

What is immediately apparent about this game is that BN2 has something for everybody. It successfully combine the elements of an RPG, a platformer, and the 'collector' genre (ie Pokemon) into a neat, story-driven little package.

The interface is pretty slick- there aren't too many menus to navigate through, and although there isn't a quest journal, hints come in the form of 'e-mail', and your partner will let you know what you should be doing next at the touch of a button.

Combat is just plain fun. It takes place on a grid in cyberspace, and although you are confined to lateral movement only, you get a neat little bag of tricks from temporary power-ups called chips. Every few seconds, you can open up your chip folder and select another special power or combination thereof to use against the enemy- this is where long-time afficionados of the MegaMan series will find the powers of their fallen foes- Gutsman's and Roll's powers, for example.

Combat can be tricky, but since you are confined to lateral movement on a smallish grid, it is mostly a game of figuring out your opponent's attack patterns and then countering. Nonetheless, it is a load of fun and there seem to be tons of different enemies to toss a beating to.

The world itself is colorful, the characters are interesting, and the story itself, while of the Saturday morning cartoon variety, is still pretty interesting.

Although the game centers around the life of an elementary school kid as seems to be the current trend these days, you shouldn't let that fact alone drive you to relegate this title into the 'kiddie games' category- you'll be missing out on one of the best GBA games to date.

Megaman EXE returns to the Gameboy Advance in the sequel Megaman Battle Network 2. If you are familar with the gameplay of the first game, then the battle system of this game should be easy to learn. Some differences include: Megaman does not automatically replenish his HP after each battle, many more chips, Megaman is able to acquire elemental styles depending on how you use him in battle. As with the first, you can link with your friend's GBA to trade chips, styles, and battle! Retro chip traders also allows you to use link to another GBA with the first game inserted to trade old chips for new ones.

The story of this game is slightly darker than the first. Story events, while not involving direct physical violence except those like the ones depicted in the battle events, involve more evil villians who harm others more than in the first game. Mass destruction in the _computer world_ is also brought up in the game. I don't think this is a concern for most people, but if you're going to hand the game over to a four year old and then write an angry letter to ESRB and Capcom for the "E" rating when you find out, check out the game yourself first. I think it deserves an E rating for Everyone, but if you're more sensitive about what issues to expose to your child, play the game before you give it to them.

The characters have also evolved due to story events from the first game. This is good, since it makes sense to have characters interact slightly differently after you've saved the world in the first game. It also shows Capcom did not just copy and paste character dialogues from the first game and actually thought about how characters should grow and evolve.

The story continues from the first game. While it is not critical that you play the first game before picking up this one, it is recommended. Facts revealed from the first game's ending are used in this game. The regular cast of characters also have their introduction in the first game. The quality of the story is on par, if not even better than the first game. I think the story is a bit more realistic than the first. Our hero Lan Hikari is a little less sheltered than in the first game, encountering more dangers of his own, which makes the story more interesting.

This is a highly recommended game for fans of the first.

I have played many games for the GBA and this is the best of the lot it has a good story line with a amazing game play. It is interesting and there is talent involved. You can get a range of great attacks by using battle chips. There is loads of chips to collect which means that it has more than one target and more to do. This game has shown that capcom can make great games. Buy this game it is the best of the lot!!!!!!!
P.S It is not just for kids me and my friends have enjoyed it and we are 14 year olds

This Mega Man game is a game that you would never get bored playing! It's about this boy called Lan that lives in a world with advanced tegnology. Theres him in the real world, and his buddy [Mega Man] in the cyber world. In the real world, you can go to the subway station and go to different places, including the airport, battle other people, and theres even a place where people post there problems so other people [other people means you] can go and help them; if you manage to solve their problem, you get a reward. In the cyber world, which is the place where 98% of your missions take place, you can earn money by killing viruses that live in the cyber world,[you can also earn money from people that post their problems] and with the money you can buy subchips, that work for restoring your health and other things; or you can also buy just plain battle chips that work for killing, deleting viruses. You can get into peoples home pages, [that is if the people actually give you their code for their home page] which is sometimes useful for your missiones, and get into different places in the net. Even though i'm a girl, I think the game is a really nice game....

If any of you have played Megaman BattleNetwork 1 (If you haven't slap yourself) you know that the second is going to be something big. It has a ton of new features also including some bad ones now that your health doesn't replenish after every battle. But hey its cool it has a ton of new chips and graphics witch are through the roof. At the start of the game your Lan like always but you live in a much more technological city with tons of shops including chip shops, health shops, and a battle stadium. This is one of the best games I've played in my entire life.

One of the best games for GBA i've ever played.

First of all you don't really need to play the first one in order to follow this one's story if you just pay attention to whats going on.

Gameplay- I would give the game play for this game a 10 out of 10. It is not really easy but they don't make it impossible to beat either. Sure you may get frustrated by some of the bosses but it's all worth it in the end.

Story- I would give the story for this game a 9 out of 10. Like i said befor you don't need to play the first one to understand megaman battle network 2. the only flaw in the story is the stuff that you constantly have to deal with you don't get much time to goof off on the game.

Sound- The sound isn't the greatest in the world but it is for GBA after all so i gave the sound for this game a 6 out of 10.

Graphics- I loved the Graphics for this game. It was exactly what I would have expected. The only thing I diddn't like was the graphics for megaman's attacks. They diddn't look the way you'd expect them to look. So thats why I gave the graphics for this game a 9 out of 10.

Replayability- I gave this topic a 7 out of 10. Why? Well the game is great fun the first time around but once you know what to do then it's not all that great. The only reason I had to play it again was to collect all 200 and some battle chips. (Megaman uses the battle chips to fight off viruses in the net and there are several different ones).

I would suggets that you buy this game over renting it because if you rent it then you would probably spend just as much money re-renting it if you wanted to beat it. It's just much easier to buy it.

I hadn't played the first megaman battle network, but I knew this game would be great. Most of the megaman games are usaully not in a RPG form, but a platform. This game has many pros and cons, like how you can get stars next to your continues after you beat certin acomplisments, or how the story line is a little hard to work with at some points. This game has a great(but sometimes wierd)sound track and great graphics that use lots of the GBA's full potential.Another great thing about this game is that megaman style will change a little after you do something in the game.I think are about 16 different styles you can get and at first you can get one of them, but if you battle a lot, your style will change again, but you still can use the other style.Your style has a element(aqua, heat, elec, and wood) and an armor type(guts, shield, plus, and custom). This game stands out for any megaman fan and people who like RPG's!

The reason I bought a GBA

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 3

I started watching an unlicensed anime (that means it's only out in Japan, no US company has picked it up, and is only available in English in videos subtitled by fans) called Rockman.exe, and was hooked. Then I heard about and played this game on my computer (with a rom, which isn't exactly legal and so I won't say any more about that) and liked it so much I actually bought a GBA just for it.

The graphics are awesome and everything is very detailed, much more so than the first installment of this series (also good, but not quite as good). The sounds are all done well and nothing gets too annoying, and the music is good.

But the real reason to buy this game is the battles. Wow. They are absolutely awesome. Combining the best aspects of a side scroller, a tactical combat RPG (like FF Tactics or Shining Force) and a CCG (like Magic: The Gathering or Pokemon), it is a really fun and diverse experience. You start off by selecting 30 chips to be in your folder, the rest go in your pack. Then when you're in battle, you start off with 5 random chips from your folder... As you use them up, they are replaced, and you can also spend a turn not doing anything to add chips, so your selection goes up to a total of 6-10 at a time. You can send megaman up to 5 chips at a time, but all chips must either share a letter or a name. For example, you could have a Cannon A and a Cannon B, or a Cannon B and a Minibomb B, but not a Cannon A and a Minibomb B. You're also limited to 5 copies of a chip in your folder at once, forcing you to diversify.

After that, the chips are sent to megaman, who you control. The battle area is a 6-wide by 3-deep grid, with you and your opponent each starting with a 3x3 box. You can use certain chips such as Area Grab to take over your opponent's box, but so can they, and you can only move in your own box. You avoid your enemies' attacks while attacking yourself, either using the chips you selected in the order you selected or your trusty megabuster, which may be upgraded and with a little dedication can become a viable weapon in and of itself.

Throughout the battle, the 'custom bar' builds up at a set rate. Really it's nothing more than a timer, and when it's full you can hit one of the shoulder buttons to go back to the chip selection screen and choose some more chips for Megaman to use.

Finally, after the battle you're giving a busting level, determined by how many chips you used, how much damage you took, and how quickly you defeated the virus(es). Higher busting level equals better chance of getting a good chip from them.

And that, in a nutshell, is the battle system. The actual game is comprised of running around the 'real' world as Lan and jacking into everything from computers to broken toys to even a dog house or coffee machine to find hidden powerups/chips. You can also get on the internet. Whenever you're on the internet or inside a computer, you're subject to random encounters which may or may not get annoying (I usually hate random encounters, but don't mind much in this game, maybe because of the fun battle system). If it does annoy you, you can buy a subchip (read: item) which lets you run around for a little while without encountering any minor viruses. None of the puzzles are throw-your-system-against-the-wall frustrating, that's a good thing. :) The game can be a little easy, though. I wouldn't reccomend it if you're looking for something to test your limits, but it should be a good difficulty for most everyone.

MegaMan is on the Net!

Megaman Battle Network 2 is a fun, fast paced game. The boss battles are challenging, and the game is very fun. The graphics and music are also pretty good.

In the game, the play is divided into two sections, online and real life. Online, you play as Megaman, battleing viruses and surfing the Net. In real life, you play as Lan, an experienced Netbattler. The game requires much stratagy, usually an annoying amount of it, too.

You collect battle chips to send to MegaMan to make him stronger, and you can spend money to buy more chips. Eventually, you won't need chips for most viruses, just the blaster.

The graphics and music are great, showing how well Capcom can make a GBA game.

The game is very fun, but it SHOULD NOT BE RATED E! The story gradually becomes very dark and full of terrorism, and the rating descriptors FAIL to mention the fact that there is much swearing in the game. Parents, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT BUYING THIS GAME FOR YOUR CHILD(REN) UNLESS (S)HE (THEY) IS (ARE) OVER THE AGE(S) OF NINE. Other than that, I reccomend this game.

Pros: Great story, visiting programs in coffee machines
Cons: Quite dark, much swearing (unnoted by ESRB rating descriptor), easy to get stuck and give up
