Too short!

This is a fun little game. I am a fan of the "Myst style" games, with puzzles and interactive environments. This is a quick game that took me only two evenings to finish off.

The style is nice, the graphics are really wonderful and the story line is intriguing. As the character, Mina, you are stranded on a mysterious island with no way to contact the outside world. After discovering the ruins of previous inhabitants, you must use what is available to you on the island and your own ingenuity to solve the puzzle of Nemo and use the Nautilus to escape.

I have two problems with the game: the length and the sophomoric feel of the puzzles. It is waaaay too short. The puzzles are simply not on par with other games of this genre.

I also would not recommend to it a serious gamer, but I did have fun while it lasted.

Great fun!!

I really loved playing this game. I thought the puzzles were fun and challenging, and the graphics were really great. I also really liked the navigation. The game was a little on the short side, but is priced accordingly. All in all a very enjoyable experience.

Return to Mysterious is a definite step up in quality gameplay from others I've recently finished--the action is totally non-linear (everything takes place on a small island) and there are multiple ways to solve every puzzle. Players can earn points for creativity and style, which makes the game replayable if you want to shoot for a higher score.

The reason for my deducting a star is because 99% of the solutions are based on finding and combining (and recombining) inventory items in novel ways to "build" something. OK, that's fine for a few puzzles and I appreciate the amount of thought the developers put into the game, but after a while it began to feel like a long (very long) IQ test. I don't care how gunpowder is made, I don't know how to make cakes out of birds eggs.

I was almost happy to see a slider puzzle.

Your Standard adventure game

It worked on my notebook, despite its 32MB graphics card, so that was nice.
The game did indeed have an island, and I suppose you could call it mysterious. It also had monkeys which is always a plus in my book, and a female lead character (another plus). The story line was pretty good, but there was a bit of "hunt and click".
So, if you're looking for a standard computer game (first person like Myst), this one is fair.

Terrific graphics, easy navigation, challenging variety of puzzles. My only complaint was that it wasn't long enough!

Not what I expected

I found the game somewhat boring and hard to follow. It was frustrating not being able to do things with the multiple tools I had in my inventory. While this is not my type of game, people interested in assembling things and making "experiments" might enjoy it.

I personally found this game to be the most fun Adventure Game I have played, and believe me, I've played alot of them.

My favorite aspect of this game is the inventory interaction. Having to combined items to make other items was more fun than playing the actual game. I hope there is a sequel!!!!

The best thing about this game is the way you can combine objects to make new ones. Then you can take them apart again to make a different object. The Adventure Company RETOMYSTISLAND Return To Mysterious Island [windows 98/me/2000/xp]

What an Adventure Game Should Be

Return to Mysterious Island is an interactive adventure game about a women who ends up shipwrecked on an island and must find a way off.

FUN and NON-LINEAR!
The best feature of this game is that it is completely non-linear. You can play the game in any order and there are several different ways to solve problems. This allows the player more creativity. The puzzles range from easy to challenging and I am sure there are still some things I did not figure to do the first time I played!

GRAPHICS/MUSIC
The graphics are pretty good, though most of the action is seen in cartoon drawings rather than in actual action. The music is decent too.

This is a great game for Adventure game for adventure game lovers!

the real drawback are the controls. they are very uncomfortable and slow. this is not an addictive game either.
