When I heard that this game had a card-based battle system I said to myself "This game would stink" even though I am a die-hard fan of Kingdom Hearts. But when I rented it from Gamefly.com it blew me away! During battle, you use cards on the left side and press the A button to use them. I always forgot it was card-based since it was so fun. Belive me, if you buy this game and you absolutley HATE card game, you won't regret this buy. Every obstacle you pass makes you feel so powerful and when you beat a boss you'll scream in joy. So what are you waiting for but Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories.
great! but hard...

Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories is a really great game. Iam13 andI love theRPGKingdom Hearts Chain of Memories I KNOW dumb14 and higher people that hate this game just because it is Disney and Final Fantasy. Those type of games are great and will live on. Again 14 and higher people butt out. Don't ruin our lives just because we like something. I play Yu Gi OH with my 5 friends. Everyone thinks its wack just because they are. If you don't like Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories it's because you don't have any thig else to do. Now again buy Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories it is a great game to enjoy. I promise. And remember there will always be a door to the light. If you don't like it keep it to your self or I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN TILL ME AND MY FRIENDS GET YOU NOT JUST THE 5 MORE OR UNTILL YOU DIE. I WILL FIND YOU LIFE KILLERS.

I don't have a Game Boy Advance, but I've been using Nintendo's Game Boy Player [...] The game is awesome, Square and Disney definitely didn't disappoint.

i got this game for christmas and beat the sora part about 2 weeks later. I didnt really consider playing the riku mode(reverse/rebirth) until about 2 weeks ago. I thiught it woulg be exactly the same but with riku instead. boy was I wrong!!! It has a compleatly different story, different gameplay(you dont colllect cards!!) even new characters original to riku mode. I just beat it!!! It is worth buying the game just for the riku mode. BUY THIS GAME
Whoever doesn't like this game isn't sane per se

This is one of the world's best and growing series ever to hit the US. Although you must gather and find good cards in the game and build up your CP (card points)this is the best game of this generation to my opinion.
Pros: -You dont need mana to use magic
-The cutscenes or state-of-the-art for a GBA game
-Challenging and addicting puzzles
-Opponents need the wittiest strategies to beat
-You can play as Riku (when you beat Sora's game)
-Create combos not seen in the original Kingdom Hearts
-A mix of mystery and action/adventure
-Anything can happen with a false move
-No real Game Over
-It's Kingdom Hearts!
Cons: -You have to find good cards
-Missing some worlds
-Abilities need to be learned through level ups
-Donald and Goofy need to be summoned
-Donald and Goofy have no extra weapons or abiliies
-Many good cards are available through luck
-You make own storyline (you make your own suspense)
-Levels consist of three short parts
This is the best game and if you don't play it then you're missing out on the world's everlasting story of its fate!!!

Fun game for the gameboy. It's an RPG hack and slash. There is a card system that is pretty cool but you'll find annoying later on in the game. You need moogle points to get any "good" cards. Once you hit the second world set you'll find that you need to hit up the moogle store a lot. The game play is fun but gets old quick. After you complete 1/4 of the game you'll more than likely want to stop playing for a while. The game follows a pattern along the lines of; synth world, kill monsters, synth room, kill monster, fight boss, rinse, and repeat.
Unless you're into the series I wouldn't recommend buying it. Your best bet is to rent the game because it's pretty much useless once you finish it. The constant repetition in this games take the replay value out of it.
Definitely Worthwhile

Kingdom Hearts: CoM is definitely a game worth playing. It explains the gap between the first two games and clears up a few mysteries that KH fans were wondering about.
The graphics are very good for a GBA game. Although the 2D graphics are a little hard to move around in battles,(such as the big fat heartless that you can't even get behind to attack) overall it is fairly good. The cinematic cutscenes are very good. The scenes actually look like original KH graphics, just on a lower quality system.
The sound quality is pretty good, though nothing outstanding.
The gameplay is what caused me to just give this game a 4 out of 5. I was expecting the classic battle system that I fell in love with in the original games. Instead, it was an entirely new battle system incorporating cards. You could just attack with the same cards over and over...but that doesn't really help. There are times when you must use a combo of three cards, and when you do, the third card disappears for that battle. There is also a limit to how many cards you can have according to your CP (card points). Prime Cards cost less CP but you can only use them once per battle unless you use them in a combo. The cards also have different numbers and attack accordingly.
I found the battle system rather frustrating and unreliable at times, but still managed to finish the game. There are times when you must strategize your cards for a while to get in some combo attacks so your enemy doesn't break your cards with a card with a higher number. I also find the 0 card very frustrating. When you're using your best cards in a combo against a boss, they will use a 0 card against you and null your combo. Then your 3rd best card will be gone and you can't even use it again.
Besides the battle system, I found that going back to all of the worlds was quite annoying. Since Sora had lost his memory in Castle Oblivion, he doesn't remember ever visiting lands like Olympus Coliseum or Agrabah. Sora visits every single land in the first Kingdom Hearts which might upset people like me who don't want to go back and do everything they just did in the first game.
What I did like, was that they showed you what happened with the other members of the Organization before the second game. I really liked seeing scenes with Marluxia, Vexen, Axel, and Larxene because it cleared up some of the storyline. After you complete the game with Sora, you can go back as a new character and see what happened with Lexaeus and Zexion.
If you are a die-hard Kingdom Hearts fan, I would suggest playing this. It is definitely worth your time if you have a lot of patience.
Annoying

Let me start of by saying that the battle sytem stinks! Cards? That is the absolute worst idea for a battle system ever! Also, the levels are either boringly easy or frustratingly hard. Don't listen to people that say that you need to beat this to understand Kingdom Hearts 2. I played KH2 without even touching KH1 and I had no trouble at all understanding it! If you really want to see the ending of this, read something about it online. The only reason I even bought this game was because I wanted something Kingodm Hearts related to play on my Nintendo DS when I had nothing else to do or if I was on an airplane or something like that. I think this is an ok game, and I LOVE the Kingodm Hearts games!
