Consider it KH 1.5

While it does get somewhat repetitive, for a Kingdom Hearts fan, this game has need to know info and expands the gap between the ending of KH1 and the beginning of KH2. The fighting style in this game is not the traditional of either PS intallment though. Sora is given points and cards. Depending on the amount of points Sora has, he can hold different cards, each doing different levels of damage and capable of combining into one big or several small attacks. It does take some getting used to.

AMAZING WITH FEW ERRORS

KH:CoM is a game that is very complex with an incredibly moving storyline, which makes it all the more enjoyable. There are only a few problems with the game, however.

1. The graphics, while still very good, are not what I would prefer. The PS2's 3D polygons are much more preferable to the GBA's 2D sprites and pixels.
2. The room synthesis mode is quite frustrating and repetitive, I often burn through cards required for a door at an earlier door, with the enemy fights very frustrating due to the reduction to the 2D plane.
3. The game lacks true voiceovers, and I would rather hear dialogue rather than read it.

Still, with these errors, CoM is a very enjoyable game with lots of replay value. I personally can't wait for the PS2 remake to come out in September!

This game, while challenging, has a high playabilay level, I know this because my brother plays it over and over again. This game is also extremely usefull in filling in the gaps of the story line from Kingdom Hearts Two. If you have not played this game before playing Kingdom Heart Two you will be confused about what happened. I strongly reccomend this game to fans of the franchise.

I love Kingdom Hearts is acool game. You go through Diffrent levels battling Disney Creatures. Once you beat the levels you fight the main boss. I am trying to beat Captain Hook. I think You should be 7 or older for this game

This is a fun sequel to square enix's big hit Kingdom Hearts. The storyline is a bit confusing (like time travel confusing) but you get the big picture. There is a very innovative battle system, its not 100% hack n' slash but its not 100% Yugioh (thank god). FF fans KH fans RPG fans will love this game. the other less intelegent crowd like the first-person shooter fans and wrestling fans probably will find KH too complex for them. This a fun and addicting game BUY IT!!!!!!!!

this game was very fun. first of all the cut scenes were the best i saw on a game boy advance. the 2d graphics were also the best you control a person named sora. who stumbles on to a castle.here comes spoilers so if you don't wanna be spoiled than stop reading. the castle is called castle is called castle oblivian. sora soon finds out a girl is fiddiling with his memories. i'm not gonna say anymore.

overall some bosses were really hard than again i did have really weak cards.

the last boss is easy if you have a good strategy.

Chain of Memories is one of the best portable RPGs

Chain of Memories is the second Kingdom Hearts game but is actually Kingdom Hearts 1.5 rather than #2. The story picks up immediately where number one left off. Sora, Donald, and Goofy are lured into a mysterious castle by a hooded stranger. They are told that they will lose things precious to them but at the same time gain new ones too. Essentially, he says, the further they venture into the castle, the more they will forget, and the more memories they will recover. Sora and friends must discover the dangerous meaning behind this and discover the intentions of the group in charge of the castle called the Organization.

The gameplay is new and innovative. It is a card-battle system, but don't worry, it's the polar opposite of one of those slow card games youth play today. It's a fast real-time battle system similar to those found in Final Fantasy games. Instead of traditional commands and your character staying put, you (Sora) run around and use the cards as new commands, each with a different strength. Each has a different value, and when you play a card at the same time as an enemy the one with the higher face value wins the "card-break" and negates the effect of the opponent's card while retaining its own. It's intense and fun, to be simple.

In the world there are different rooms through each you must progress. To move from one to another you must use map cards at each door, with each card having a color and face value as well as its own effect on the room beyond, and you must match the card criteria on the door. After you go through each world, which is a floor of the castle, you go to the door leading to the next world, and use a certain "world card" to select which one you're going to use.

COM will last you about twenty five hours the first play though. When you beat "Sora's story", which is the main game, you'll unlock a miniature version called "Riku's story", which is just what it says. If follows Riku's struggle with the darkness inside him.

The graphics in this game are truly astounding considering this is a GBA game. The characters and the environments are all exquistely detailed and lavishly colored. The regular cutscenes feature the characters moving around on the main screen by themselves to animate what they are saying, which appears in a dialogue box. The box contains a potrait of the character and the words of what they are saying. The potrait's mouth moves with the words more or less, and has a different expression for different situations. The most impressive part here is the fact the game has about four FMV (full motion videos). Very nice for a GBA game.

Audio is great, but seeing that this is a GBA game there is no voice overs, but that's okay. The music's just like the original: fantastic.

Overall COM is a very nice RPG and is a great one for the road. Any RPG fan, Kingdom Hearts fan, or gamer in general with a GBA should get it. It's worth it, trust me.

Good Game... could be better

Gameplay 7/10
The number one thing that would have made this alot better game would have been if it just didn't revolve around cards. Very rare do a person see a game which a card based battle system is good. I rather enjoyed the reverse/rebirth story alot better since I didn't have to mess with cards as much. The first part deals with creating decks from cards you obtain from battles or buy them with moogle points. This is a hassle and really isn't that big of the game. Just stack your deck in a certain order and 99% of the battles are won in the first couple of combos. Make it a sidescroller for the battle arenas and this game would have been a 9/10 atleast. The reverse rebirth story delt with premade decks and no magic cards. This made this storyline alittle more bareable since it made where a person had to think to get past even some simple battles.
Have to do the storyline in two parts since really the game consists of two games in one.
CoM Storyline 6/10
Our heros are trapped in Catle Oblivion which they must relive the events of the first KH game and fight a group of black cloaked people called the Organization. This storyline to me in the first part of the game seemed alittle weak. At the end it just didn't seem all that revelvant but a few parts seem to make the KH2 more understandable even though it isn't out yet.
Reverse/Rebirth 8/10
This story explains alot of what happened to Riku and Mickey after KH and Riku's battle with the darkness inside him. I thought this overall was worth beating the first part of the game. Normally the "unlocked" events in games are below par but I loved this part of the game more than the first.
Sound 8/10
Good sound for the GBA but I think it would have been alittle better if it was put on the PS2 of GC (of course). Not alot of original soundtracks but easy on the ears. Only thing I wished for was voice overs for the cutscenes but due to the small amount of information the GBA can hold, this must be sacrificed.
Graphics 9.5/10
Great graphics. Probably PSX quality. Full length cutscenes (avg. 2-5 minutes). Probably the best anyone will see on the GBA.
Controls 7/10
I rated this one down to the game was on the GBA. I'm not a big fan of the layout and size of the GBA and makes it hard if in a battle and a person's hands feel alittle awkward due to the size of the machine. Can make it hard to play the game after a few hours of playtime.
Replay Value 2/10
Unless a person just loves this game, I really doubt anyone will want to play through the game more than once. The card system just isn't something that would bring someone back time after time.
Overall Review
Pros: Good Storyline, Graphics and Sound.
Cons: Would have executed better if not on the GBA, Card battle system just wasn't very good, and something alittle more to keep a person coming back for more.
If you are a big fan or Square or the series, it's a must have for the collection. If you would just like a good game to play, rent it from your local video store or gamefly.
Playtime
Chain of Memories: aprox 13 hours
Reverse/Rebirth: aprox 10 hours
Total: aprox 23 hours

I think the game is good and has a great story line although, it does not beat Kingdom Hearts 1 or 2. The story line is good and is challenging but not too challenging. But if they make a Kingdom Hearts for the DS I hope the graphics are better.
