This program will not install on either of the two computers I own. Both far exceed the minimum requirements listed on the box. I took it back, obtained a new copy (thinking I had a bad install disk) and it did the exact same thing. I love the railroad tycoon games, but this one just does not work. If you buy it, beware.
Fun business sim

If you are a train nut, you will love the subject manner. I'm not much into trains but I enjoy the business aspect of this game. Example, you find a profitable cattle route, you build rails, buy trains, then if you have enough money you buy the cattle ranches and the meat processing plants and make a killing allround.
I love the aspect of raising the net worth of your character and destroying the wealth of the AI, which is very dumb but ruthless on the harder difficulties. You can buy and sell shares in your and other companies. The highest networth I got was 246 million in 1900 which in todays terms is 6 billion.
Things really slow down after 30 game years on a 1.8Ghz processor and the trains look a bit too cartoon like. Also, you cannot ride the trains like in RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, which is a bit of a letdown.
This is probarly the best tycoon sim out there. Not as hardcore of ugly looking as RT2, this is a sequal which is an improvment all round and is an ideal business sim which is also FUN.
The game stinks

I loved Railroad Tycoon 2, but I absolutely despise Railroad Tycoon 3. The graphics have been greatly improved, but that is the only positive thing I can say about the game.
Another bad install

I am an IT professional so I know what I'm doing. I have a high end rig that plays any new game with ease. I have just spent 2 hours trying to get this to run and it doesn't. BEWARE!!!!!
I have just emailed tech support. No 24 hr support. No 800 number. Nothing on their web site about any problems.
I love RR2 and couldn't wait to get this. $50 mistake.
Wait for resolution of the problems.

It's fantastic.
Complex stock options. Buy short ect.
Issue shares, millions of them if you want to.
Buy out other companies. Innovative, and fun. Though I wish the A.I was about 10 times smarter. But still, the game is excellent.
Track layout, I love how it works.
The maps are huge. I love the graphics. So much better than Sid Meier's Railroads.
In RRT3 you can zoom in and out to incredible distances.
On the texas map, it can take a train 30 seconds to reach it's next stop. The map sizes are GREAT.
I like how the cargo assigns automatically.
The locomotives LOOK GREAT.
Love the economic model.
Not as much fun as Rollercoaster Tycoon

I purchased Railroad Tycoon 3 for my 8-year-old son. We want him to play computer games that require some reading and conceptual challenges. For whatever reasons, he got bored and frustrated with this game relatively quickly. He still plays it sometimes (over a month since purchase), but he has been playing with Rollercoaster Tycoon regularly for over a year. So Railroad Tycoon is not as much FUN as Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, but he's learning more about geography and industry.

This is one of the more enjoyable ways to learn principles of business. I think it will be addictive.

I bought this game thinking that this would be better than its DOS counterpart (Transport Tycoon)! I made a terrible mistake! This game is so boring... too rigid...(esp. rules like haul 2 loads of cotton to Miami and Memphis etc) and I would not even think of gifting it to someone! I would rather think about getting this game if I get the entire purchase amount as moneyback! Not worth a penny!
wish i never bought this
