Really fun game. I've always enjoyed the Civilization games, and this one doesn't disappoint. It's so much fun playing this game on a HDTV.

It looks like the early multiplayer issues have been worked out with the latest patch. Graphics are decent, not the greatest, but make this by far the best looking Civ game.

must need to be a fan of the old pc version or the old board game risk (dating myself!).....i never heard of the pc version of this and i always sucked at risk (stratego was way better).......anyway, the game itself was ok....graphics were good enough and the game play moved pretty fast but you really have to like these types of games to get anything out of it. i don't so those of you who do may want to ignore my review. those like me, well, may be try a different game.....this one would have been a fun rent but no way worth the money to buy it. there is very little re-playability to games like this for your average, non-internet gamers like myself.....my mistake.....may be gamefly will buy it from me.......have fun and check out madden 09!!!!!

Fun game and is replayable many times. Could run a little better late in the games. Graphics are pretty good also.

I have been playing the Civilization series for a long time, since back in the days of DOS. Although I love the games, I have long wished for a quicker version of the game, without just playing it on easy. Civ Revolution does just that. It keeps the main aspects of the game play while losing a lot of the in depth stuff that make the previous version of the game take so long.
The only part I find really annoying with the game is the babble talk from your advisers.
My girlfriend, who states "she hates strategy games", plays this game quite often. She enjoys that its not so intense and time consuming as many strategy games are. Its a good speed to keep you entertained and having fun plus you can finish a game in just a few hours compared to a few days.
Overall I think this is a really good game and just needs a few tweaks to make it great. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the Civ games to date or would like to try a strategy game.

Solid entry, but not without flaws.

I downloaded the demo and was immediately addicted. So much so, that I had to go out and buy it same day. I've never played a Civilization game before and was highly impressed.

First off, the graphics are all animated but fluid and clear. Everything looks good, from the early days of your civilization right up to the modern era.

The sounds are fun and fitting. You hear marching with the units that are supposed to march, and a little bit of a growling with units that fire projectiles. The cannons boom and the tanks roar.

Gameplay itself is very simplified. There's one button control of managing individual cities, negotiating with other leaders, and checking your intake/inventory. Some things weren't explained, like how Science controls your technological advances and exactly how to control it and how gold input effects building and how to get more of it.

Timelines are accurate insomuch as you won't have a nuclear weapon in the prehistoric era. That being said, one of the major drawbacks is that when you advance technologically, the game moves into the next era whether you're ready or not. Once you hit the final years of the final era, the game ends in five turns. You can't control this and there's no way to shut the feature off. If you're looking to conquor all enemy cities and think there's unlimited time to do it, you're going to be disappointed. This is the only part of the game I do not like and the reason why I give four stars instead of five. I've played more than once to feel cheated out of a proper ending.

Yet, it's still fun to watch that ICBM warhead fly into another country's city and demolish everything.

This game is completely family friendly, too. There's no swearing and the violence is fairly limited for a game where you can be a warload. There's no excessive blood for parents worried about that and you can learn a lot about great people that settle in your cities and the great wonders that can be built with science advances.

It's sort of like the other Civ. games, but with a little twist. Easy to play, without coming up short of a good game.

Great graphix for short play

While this is a great addition to the franchise, it is not as long or in depth as the PC/mac versions that have been out previously. It is a great way to sink 4 hours. While, I'm not regretting buying this title, I don't think I'll be playing it again in the near future. I'll still be playing CIV IV for the added depth and larger worlds. Great as an intro to the series if you have never played before.

Great game I can play over and over again... very addicting

I really enjoy this game.... things move along kind of fast so it definitely isn't like the PC games that can draw out for weeks at a time, but it isn't so fast that you're done in a few hours (at least not at the higher difficulties). Not sure where the 4 hours of play limit came from as I have played several games straight through on the weekend that lasted 7 to 8 hours (I did take a few 10 minute brakes here and there but most of it was play time). I've only had the game end on me once without fulfilling the requirements for one of the victories and that was b/c I was intentionally drawing it out.

Along the same lines, you can prevent any of the victories from ending the game early by simply not building the required Wonder, not conquering the last capital, or not launching the space craft if you want to play around more in the your game (you have to intentionally decide to end the game with a specific Victory).

There are several different ways of winning the game and depending on which Civilization you chose you will have a head start in one of those areas (domination, science, money, or culture) so strategy is important... you can't just brute force your way through the higher levels.

The only downside to the game for me is the limitations when dealing with other Civilizations. I was kind of expecting something more in line with the old PC game Masters of Orion 2 where you can create research and trade treaties, non-aggression pacts, or even alliances. For me, it usually ends up that the only use of the Democracy feature is for other Civilizations to threaten me or declare war... but, I'm still new to the game so maybe there is more for me to discover (and I am constantly discovering new features beyond the basics controls).

All in all, I like the game a lot and would buy it again. Ohh, and the graphics are awesome, especially on a large HD screen!

OK game but not great

If you like civilization you will like this maybe even love it, but don't get your hopes up this isn't much more than a port of the PC version of the game. The biggest drawback is the game play was not significantly improved for use with a console controller... Its a bit awkward and ineffective to more around the map and move troops. The game was also full of graphical glitches this was truly unacceptable, it also ran surprisingly slow. Very annoying. The graphics were ok and I expected much better for a PS3 Game. The sound design could have been better as well.... The more I write this review the more I realize how many issues I had with the game....

Good Game Graphics could be better

This is a fun game.

I wish the map display was a bit better, but fun overall.

Wish more people had it for the PS3 Tried to play online with other players but there was not any.
