Very sad...

I so wanted to like this game, been a Civ fan for years. I've been trying to like it for two weeks now, but it is horrible. Poor game play, insipid and annoying. Not really Civ at all... it's more like a description of Civ given by Ritalin deprived forth grader as a book report, except a forth grader would imagine better game play. Also, $60 for this... really?! A very sad turn for Civ.
Like Risk with graffix and social issues.

If you enjoy the old school board game Risk and think the rest of mankind got it all wrong then this game is up your alley. You can choose just what you think is more important. Developing your mind or military might to dominate the world and create it as you see fit. I enjoy this game a lot. The only negative that prevented me from a five star rating is the lack of online competition (so hurry up and buy it) and the fact that the few times i have played online I found it difficult to invite from the friends list. However playing the computer is never the same game and quite enjoyable. Be sure to block off a good three hours to play (defiantly if your playing multi payer)but I promise it's worth the time. Look for bladerunner101, I'd love to play you.

I played the demo for Civilization Revolution non-stop. I was extremely excited when the full game was released. The way Civ experience has been re-imagined for the console is great. You must realize that this game IS NOT Civilization IV. The matches are shorter and less complicated. I feel this is because most people with jobs and responsibilities cannot spend the time it takes to play a traditional, 4+ hour Civilization match. The developer also had to cut many features to streamline play to a console level.
Many of the lower reviews are comparing this to Civilization IV which is unfair. This game is more like Civ. Lite. I feel ALL PS3/360 games are at least $10 too much. So I can relate to the pricing complaints.
Pros:
It gives you a unique Civilization-like game.
The play design with a PS3 controller is great.
The graphics are what you'd expect from Civ.
As a beginner, the game does an excellent job teaching you the game.
More addicting than crack.
Cons:
First run, the game needs an available online update to fix many bugs.
PS3 version uses GameSpy, who isn't known for great game servers, for online play.
No "One more turn" option to continue building your civilization after conditions for winning have been met.
There are still game balancing issues (e.g. one civ. too strong in one area).
More addicting than crack.
For me, bottom line is the Cons are annoying enough for a 4-star review, but if you like strategy games and have a PS3, this is a must buy. I would look at a local used-game store. You might find an unhappy, hardcore Civ. fan's used copy! (If you like this game, try the DS version.)

I agree with other people that this game is the worst aspects of the PC version with none of the good ones. It has nothing new and is frustrating to play. The PC version that came out years ago was hand above this.
Good Game

This is a very good, addicting game. If you like a challenging, play again, and again game then this is it. Games take between 45 minutes to 2 - 3 hours depending on the intracacy of your empire. The previous comments are probably justified, especially the game fly piece but are quite critical. If you are looking for a quick, fun Civ game then you cannot go wrong here. Enjoy.
A quick, stripped down version thats is a whole lotta fun!

I have played this twice already and man alive do i love it! The only complaint I have is that the game ends (approx) 2100 AD...not enough time for Alpha Centuri.
Best Civ Yet!

If you like civilization you will like this maybe even love it, but don't get your hopes up this isn't much more than a port of the PC version of the game. The biggest drawback is the game play was not significantly improved for use with a console controller... Its a bit awkward and ineffective to more around the map and move troops. The game was also full of graphical glitches this was truly unacceptable, it also ran surprisingly slow. Very annoying. The graphics were ok and I expected much better for a PS3 Game. The sound design could have been better as well.... The more I write this review the more I realize how many issues I had with the game....
Good fun

Really fun game. I've always enjoyed the Civilization games, and this one doesn't disappoint. It's so much fun playing this game on a HDTV.
It looks like the early multiplayer issues have been worked out with the latest patch. Graphics are decent, not the greatest, but make this by far the best looking Civ game.
