There is 1 thing i should warn u about before buyong the game. DONT PLAY IT ON THE INTEGRATED GRAPHICS THAT INTEL GIVES U!!!! Get at LEAST an ati radeon 9500 or an nvidia fx card before u play. Also make sure the card has at least 128 mb of vram before playing.
This game blew me away just as hl 2 did and i had only played the demo on my grandparents cpu (3 ghz integrated intel graphics512 mb ram) and i had to put EVERYTHING at ROCK BOTTOM and it still ran like a slideshow!! When i got home to my cpu(3.4 ghz 1gb ram nvidia geforce 6800) i could play it with most of everything turned up.It ran smooth at a 1024x768 reasolution and i got at least 50 fps if not more!! So if u have the hardware i strongly recommend that u get this game!!! dont get it for xbox360 if u have the hardware to play it because the 360 version isnt as good visually(the REAL truth). So i recomend u have a 2.4+ ghz intel or amd prossesor and at least 128 of vram in ur card, and 512 mb of ram!!! If u got all of this in your system i would strongly recommend buying this game!!!

I bought this since I was a die hard fan of the previous Quake game. Q4 was disappointing. My system exceeded the minimum requirements and still it did not play smoothly, despite tweaking all the video/audio options. Loading times are excrutiating as well. I don't think people should buy games and then have to manipulate their systems to get even the basic requirements out of the game. The developers need to go back to the drawing board on this one. A complete disappointment.

Ok well first of all i just have to say that i have played both doom 3 and quake 4. quake 4 owns doom 3 and ill tell you why. first of all doom does have fantastic graphics, but really nothing else. the entire doom game is repetive. ur in a building the whole time and this is really agriavting and boring. Quake for being made by mostly the same guys, also brings graphics that match doom's and is suprisingly similar but quake takes the good things that doom had and left behind all the bad that came with doom. so basically it is better, or an improvement on doom.
Quake 4 allows u to use weapons and vehicles and takes place in many different areas, such as indoor facilities and outdoor wastelands. quake 4 also has terrific AI that i was extremely impressed with. i havent beaten the game but there is supposed to be large scale warefare as well as small encounters. Quake 4 also doesnt get boring at all, unlike doom did very quickly. i Also hear the the multiplayer,(which is online), is fantastic. that alone should be worth your fifty. although there is one thing; if enjoy being scared, doom does a better job at it than quake, but then again, thats all that it does better than quake.
This Game is AMAZING!!!!

I preordered Quake 4 and bought it the first day it came out because I know that ID software makes high quality games and I am a ID software fan. This game has really cool guns that you can get upgraded, Majestic sound (for all the tards out there majestic means good.) And the thing you will notice right off the bat, the graphics. I have seen some reviews from some customers saying "Boohoo it won't work on my computer so every body shouldn't get it! Im a moron!" Well it works realy good on my computer and mine is older (like 2001) so stop complaining and ask for help. This game is violent but who gives a damn. Im 13 And I can handle it. But to get to the point, Quake 4 is a great game and any one who likes games should get it.
Much better than people are giving it credit for

People keep saying that this game is just a Doom 3 clone, that the graphics are subpar, and the AI is idiotic, but they are SOOO WRONG!
First of all this game feels more like a futuristic Call of Duty that a Doom 3 clone. There is a lot of squad based battle, and I mean a lot, it's rare that you will be by yourself. The atmosphere is not out to startle you, and there is real vehicle fighting, which i enjoyed.
The Graphics are right up there with Doom 3 and HL2, and the AI seems just as good as the rest but a little more polished, with very impressive things like taking cover and shooting blindly over the top, like in a movie.
My only complaints are that its a little short, i wish you could run, at least as fast as your squad mates, and the internet MP can be really really laggy.
A waste.............

Awhile back, I wrote a not so good review of Halo (one) and have changed my mind. I simply needed a better computer and video card. So now I've had that for a year or so and have been loving Halo CE. I figured I would try another shooter and bought Quake 4. Big disapointment, to me. Just for the record, I'm not a fan of artificially fast movements, whether it be racing games or shooters. And in this game, well...it seems everything is fast and dark. Especially fast in the multiplayer environment. It's just no fun to when everything happens so fast you don't have time to appreciate if there even are cool looking environments in which to play...unlike in, I believe Quake 3, which I liked.
In single player mode, I actually thought I absentmindedly bought a second copy of Doom....same old look....dark corridors inside a space ship. Nothing interesting.
Next time I'll check other reviews and especially the screen captures.
Good and Bad... a little more of one than the other.

First off, I would like to start my review by stating a comment about the graphics: They totally ROCKED! They were fantastically well made and gave the game a sense of realism that pulled you into the story. You actually felt like metal was metal, like rock was rock... the graphics were a definite boost for the game and could win over any detail freak. The levels were incredibly detailed and often reminded one of the vastly detailed environments in the Alien Quadrilogy. Two thumbs up for the graphics and detail.
Sound: The sound was ok. They could have been made better... that goes for the music, especially.
THE BAD OF QUAKE IV:
Quake 4 was fine for a while, up until the level where Matthew Kane becomes a Strogg. That's when everything becomes disgusting.
Quake 4 has an extremely strong "yuck factor". There is blood for the first few levels, then it turns to gore, then a lot more gore, until eventually, you shut the game off because of the over-excessive use of gore. Certain levels have you trudging your way through mounds of human remains, leaving you feeling nauseated and angry at the game designers. Honestly, whoever designed those levels should see a psychiatrist ASAP! The gore was unnecessary to tell the story. It could have very well been left out. Some people can enjoy a bloody game, but this one I think will have even the most callused gamers wondering: "Was this game really worth my money?" Honestly, go buy Warcraft or something... this game will make you sick.
This is why they won't allow refunds on software.

If you hated Doom 3 because it was just too darn dark, the "monsters" were too predictable, and found that about 1/3 of the way through it was more of a chore than a joy to play... you will hate Quake 4 as well.
I keep wishing that it had the same color palette and brightness of Half-life 2, but it doesn't.
Nothing has really changed here folks; move along - nothing interesting to see. Literally.

I bought this game in the hopes that I would not have the same technical headaches as with Doom 3. Sadly it was so. The game will boot up and then boot back to desktop this pc was an alienware with a 3.2 processor and a nividia fx 4950. I tried the game on a dell xps latop with a 128 radian mobility video card and a 3.2 processor that one crash the laptop to the point I had to power down completly and then reboot the latop. I contacted tech support but from what information they have gave me tells me that I have to upgrade my pc to their specs in order to enjoy the game. (!) Which really means to me I was suckered out of $55+(must include sales tax). So I have been ripoff again first doom 3 now quake 4. Save your money!
