Basically, what we have here is the same game.
Seriously. Intelli Sys recycled like 60% of the content from FE1(7 in jpn)? The only "new" things here are what you'd already expect in a sequel anyway: a new plot and new character designs.
Why would anyone pay full price to play exactly the same game all over again? It boggles the mind. On the pc we have what are called "expansion packs". This "sequel" does nothing new what the previous game hasn't already done. And the previous one, which I've reviewed, wasn't that impressive either.
In short, go ahead and buy this if you liked the first one and want more of the same. If the previous Fire Emblem didn't do much for you however, don't expect anything different.
More of the same

I really enjoyed the original Fire Emblem for the GBA so when i heard about the release of The Sacred Stones it went to the top of my must have list for Gameboy games.
Though i really found the first one to be innovative and strategically challenging The Sacred Stones really didn't impress me much. From alot of the reviews i read i expected more innovation and improvement - what i got were a couple pointless new character classes and that's pretty much it - it's pretty much a rehash of the last Fire Emblem with a less interesting plotline.
Despite being a little dissapointed that some of the minor problems weren't fixed such as the often annoying ability of enemy's to get that lucky critical attack to kill off your best character. (Nothing is more frustrating then surrounding an isolated enemy boss only to have him take you out with a lucky critical hit counter attack and to have to replay the entire mission) The Sacred Stones is still, like it's predicessor, a solid and deep strategy rpg.
My advice is to play the first GBA Fire Emblem first, and to only pick up the sacred stones if you exhausted it and are looking for more of the same - there are so many new tactical rpgs coming out that look to blow this one out of the water such as Atlus' Riviera, also for the GBA.
Not What I Was Hoping It Would Be

I've become an addict of RPG series such as Phantasy Star, Dragon Warrior, and the eternally consuming, superior Final Fantasy. When I learned of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, I rushed out immediately and purchased it. After 45 minutes of play, I was severely disappointed. Until then, I had not been aware of "tactical" strategy games--not saying there is anything wrong with this particular genre, but it simply did not interest me. I was surprised to find myself irritated at the amount of reading involved, and I soon grew impatient for actual gameplay. It is obvious that this game is superior and engrossing for those who like tactics-based games, but I have learned I'm not one of those people. Unfortunately, I had also purchased Riviera, and discovered it to be the same. The graphics, music, detail, and storyline on both seemed to be wonderful and engaging; however, though I tried and tried I could not get interested in this type of game. If you are a fan of tactical strategy, then I would definitely recommend it. But if you are like me and are interested in more quest-like, "trigger" adventure, than look for something else.
Not as interesting as I had hoped

This game looked very interesting to me but when I started playing it, I was left unimpressed. I have not been enjoying the chapter breakdown of play in the least. I prefer the more continuous play that appears in games like "Golden Sun" and the "Legend of Zelda" series. Yes, there are challenges to overcome in those games but you're not stopped so the next challenge can be explained to you. This might make a nice game for a younger crowd but not for adults where the chapter breakdown might be very helpful.
The graphics are the best part of this game; they are beautiful.
Orignal is much better

Don't get me wrong, I like this game, but I highly recommend the first game by far. i mean... the plot isn't as intriguing for one thing, but the thing that really got me was the chracters. It was very hard for me to actually fall in love with the chracters, while I was delighted by the oringals (Erk and Heath in pauticular! ^.^)
I mean sure, its worth buying, but you will get tired of it really quickly. (I know I have...)
Good but last game is better

The new Fire Emblem is okay but it is recycled from the original Fire Emblem. If you like Fire Emblem I recomend it.

This game was good. I just didn't like how most of the characters were guys. The only girls I could have on my team were Eirika, Vanessa, and Natasha. The characters are 6/10 but this game is challenging, which is good. The bad thing about this game is that most of the first 5 levels are tutorials and if one character dies, they never come back. This makes the game more frusterating because you need most of the character to unlock other characters in the game. I haven't played the first game but this game is okay. There is also way to much dialogue.
Solid but not groundbreaking gameplay.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones is a tactical role playing game. The gameplay is similar to the Advance Wars series, but the setting is a standard fantasy world. Basically, you move a variety of units across a terrain board to fulfill a specific goal and complete the mission.
Some players may find the long sections of dialogue tedious, but the exposition is designed to explain the plot and provide motivation to finish the missions. Unfortunately, this makes for a linear storyline and at least in the first few hours of gameplay, the player has no freedom to deviate from the setup.
The job system is not nearly as deep as that in Final Fantasy Tactics or even FF Tactics Advance, but there is some growth and weapons customization. Players may be annoyed by weapons breaking after a certain number of strikes. Also, because of the rock/paper/scissors system, a normally powerful character might struggle with a lesser enemy simply because the wrong weapon is equipped.
The battle map graphics are good and fairly clear, although the character sprites are small and sometimes hard to distinguish. The music is better than average. I have not completed the game, but guessing at the number of hours it takes to complete, Sacred Stones is probably a good value.
Overall, this is a solid game and if you like tactical RPGs you will enjoy it.
alright...

It was okay. It kind of repeated itself and missions always seemed the same. good for a road trip or boredom but nothing to get totally immersed in.
Great game!

This was my first Fire Emblem game. Though I had no clue how to play, I learned very quickly. This game is a battling game mixed with a LOT of strategy. There are also three different difficulty levels to challenge more experienced players.
The basic game play is sort of a giant chess board. You move your characters around this field and battle enemies. Each battle lasts at least 20 minutes, and there are 20 story battles. The is another feature called Creature Campain, where you battle more monsters and unlock more characters apart from unlockable characters in the story. It's not know as a fact, but in my game, I have maybe 40 different soldiers.
The one thing people may not like is that afer beatin the game once, some people may not be encouraged to beat the game a second time.
Overall, this game will keep you busy fo awhile, and you'll have fun playing it, but it may not be the game you would like to play over and over again. 4 stars!
