Love it

My 2 1/2 year old loves the game. He always want to play Dora even though I do have other games for him as well. He does need my help from time to time but mostly I can let him just go and play on his own with very little super vision. I did not like how easy it is for him to accidently click on higher levels and I would have to fix it and put it back down to level 1 again. Overall I really liked this game for my son.

We are now on our 2nd disc and both did not work in my computer which is just a few years old. Never had a problem with any other software. Stay away from this game!!!

I installed this computer on a Gateway 700S and it doesn't work at all. I went to Atari's technical support and followed the suggestions for updating video, sound, and DirectX, which didn't help at all. Now I have a game I can't return and can't play.

Software is poor, tried on 3 different computers the cd won't run on any of them. Atari must know about the problem because the web site list what the computer does, but no solution to the problem. Its a waste of time and money.

Know your numbers?

Yes, as a previous reviewer said, the Lost City is full of number recognition. My kids are 5 and 2 1/2 and they are both big Dora fans. My 5 year old has tired of this game (we've had it at least a year), but my 2 1/2 year old loves to play the paint-by-number game (I just wish there are more than a handful of pictures) and can now recognize many numbers! So kudos to the game. But he still finds frustration with the other parts of this game. For a more rounded game, try Dora's backpack.

Adventures Await!

Dora the Explorer Animal Adventures makes an excellent beginner game. The characters speak slowly, and the instructions are thorough, in my opinion probably a too comprehensive. For instance, after you sign-in, the characters introduce themselves, and they explain about the big storm. It takes them 2 long minutes! That's a lot of time. I've found it's easier for this age group to listen to short explanations, so they can get on with game. If they're having problems, further instruction is always welcomed. Fortunately, you can click the mouse and skip over the narration in the replay.

Dora the Explorer Animal Adventures is recommended for children 3 to 5-years. I think a 2½ year old could easily handle level 1 on this game, especially in the River Rapids Rescue game. This is my son's least favorite, because it's the least challenging. All you do is move the mouse and click somewhere within 6" vicinity, so Dora can jump over the logs in the river. The visual spotting games are fun for little ones too. Once the animals are discovered they put-on a silly performance that young children find amusing. For example, the Fruit Bat puts on a hat of fruit and dances. The Caimen stands up and brushes his teeth. My son actually laughs aloud.

The game offers lots of encouragement as well. For instance, Dora will shout "great idea," or Diego will say, "excelente." Just like the television series, the Fiesta Trio will play a little ditty at the end of each game. In our house, computer time is an earned privilege, thus some weeks he plays, while others he doesn't. When he does play, he's not allowed to sit at the computer for hours at a time, as his gaming time is limited. I like that my son instantly understood this game, so it's intuitive. I also appreciate the educational, and bilingual features. One could literally learn interesting facts about 2 dozen different animals. I'm not sure how far the game counts, but I know my 4-year old has collected at least 40 stars, because I heard him count to 40 in Spanish.

Bottom line, William enjoys the Dora the Explorer Animal Adventures game. Even though it's not his favorite computer game, he does request it. It think 3-year old children are the prime target market, but older children just starting to play computer games would enjoy it as well. I definitely think I got my money's worth!

BUGGS

We found this game would not play on my new dell computer and only played on my husband's new alienware system with choppy sound and graphics - and he bought this computer specifically for gaming. So I think the software must be defective. We have backpack and lost city also - they play well and my son (2.5) likes them both, but i found that with lost city all the games were about numbers - ignoring other concepts like colors, letters and shapes. Try this software at your own risk, maybe they will fix the bugs. I found tech support to be a frustrating, time consuming experience with an automated system that was confusing and annoying. Good luck.

Dora's PC Games - Animal and Backpack Adventures

I bought Dora's animal adv (using Win2000) for my 2.5 yr old and he loves it. At first it was kinda hard for him. But he mastered it. Now at 3 yrs, he loves to play with it with no help. There are good memory game, fun facts, numbers. Lotsa activites. I rate this one a 5 star for fun, educational and overall. Worth getting.

BUT then I bought Dora's Backpack adv (using Win98) and there were so many problems with it. The trio came on very slowly. The game exited itself or froze up while playing. I'm not sure if it's b/c of Win98. The game itself is okay if there are so many bugs in the game. I rated this one a 3 stars for fun but 1 star for too many bugs.

Dora Animal Adventures is pretty poor

I am StoryMaker. My sis Chocolate Dog got Dora Animal Adventures for her 7th birthday on July 14 from her grandparents (part the reason I through on that extra star for the overall rating!). It is not very fun. We are not preschoolers but I bet preschoolers would think the same! The installation takes a long time when it loads the files even if you choose Minimum and the shortcut it makes says "Play Animal Adventures" instead of "Dora Animal Adventures" (we rename it though) and it is annoying because there is a JumpStart Animal Adventures too! I do not like the Sign-In screen. You must press the arrow buttons to start a new game (scroll to blank field journal) or countine a game (scroll to used field journal) and of the paints to color your FJ there is no red and red is my favorite color so I must use pink and you can only put one animal sticker on your FJ (I need to choose!). Most of the places lead you to a boring game where you find the animals (whitch is too easy even on level 3) and your cursor turns into a camera and you click it. Actullay, wherever you click it always takes a pic of the animal. All the animals do tricks when you find them, but the Anaconda Snake turns into a balloon animal...does not teach how dangerous it is! And it also dosen't tell any facts about animals. And in the move like the animals game you just choose whitch animal she acts like, not whitch way she goes. I could do it faster then it does in the game and when you get to the animal Dora is stupid enough not to pick it up before it jumps up and Boots the monkey says, "Look how high the baby is!" and in the rapids game if you but into something nothing happens, you just stop and you can just click a million times and Dora will jump over everything. And, the rapids game is the most action-arcade-ish, and it can get boring! And the feeding game badly teaches colors because Diego calls the light orenge leaves yellow leaves and the frog wants to eat bunches of grass and mangos! But I like the "Stunt Puppy Enertainment, Inc." thing at the start. Also, sometimes the screen turns white for a second. Let's say Artari makes bad games, because they made a bad "Pajama Sam 4: Life's sure ruff when you lose your stuff!". [...]

Game is nice, Keydisk is hard for 3 year old

The game is simple but there are a number of things for my 3 year old to do. My big complaint about this game is the fact it has a key disk that must be in the cd drive for the game to run. Key disks are such a hassle for 3 year olds who you don't want opening and closing the cd tray on your computer. I'd like to just have an icon on the desktop she can click to run the game.. Can't happen when she needs to put the disk in the CD player. Frustrating.
