PERFECT first computer game

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 4 / 4
Date: December 06, 2002

My 2 year old daughter (soon to be 3) absolutely LOVES this game. Her 5 year old brother has been proficient at these computer games since before her age, but for some reason she just couldn't get the mouse coordinated with the computer arrow on the screen. This is the first game that she has been able to master, and while it is boring and repetitive to adults (and her brother), it has built her confidence and love of learning.
If you are searching for a fun first computer game for your toddler, and he or she loves Dora...this is the one! The graphics and sounds are just like watching the television show, but truly interactive.

Average at best game; Dora only redeeming feature.

Do not buy this game if you are used to the better quality games Humongous software has produced for NickJR characters in the past: Humongous was sold to Infogames, and well, if this title is indicative, much was lost.

This game is saved only by the appearance of Dora. I really feel the two star rating is generous. My daughter is Dora crazy, and even she shows little to no interest in this game (and she loves edutainment computer games).

The program is not well executed, and there is little asttention to detail. One my daughter noticed was that at the begining of the game Dora collects 5 books to return to the liebrary. When she returns the books at the end of the journey, the colors of the books which come out of the backpack don't match the ones put in, prompting my daughter to ask "what happened to the books we put in Dora's backpack...

Just Ok

My daughter is 4 and loves Dora. The game is short and not interesting her. Also it's seems there are a few glitches in the game. Trying to get the stars into backpack is nerve racking. You don't actually click on the stars but just to the outside of it. It becomes a pain. Don't waste you money.

great fun and great game

My 3 and a half year old daughter receieved this game for Christmas. She loves it! She can play it completely on her own and will play for at least an hour at a time! I usually have to tear her away from it! The games offers a good mix of fun and education! Definitely Recommmended!

My 3yr old son loves the Dora tv show, but quickly grew tired of this game. He finished his adventure within 20 minutes. The 3 difficulty levels are virtually the same and the activities are limited. The Reader Rabbit games offer a lot more fun for the money. This software is a waste.

Really a great game for kids

My 3 year old has all the Dora PC games and loves them. We have never had a problem with any of them and she has no problem playing them at all.

Dora's PC Games - Animal and Backpack Adventures

I bought Dora's animal adv (using Win2000) for my 2.5 yr old and he loves it. At first it was kinda hard for him. But he mastered it. Now at 3 yrs, he loves to play with it with no help. There are good memory game, fun facts, numbers. Lotsa activites. I rate this one a 5 star for fun, educational and overall. Worth getting.

BUT then I bought Dora's Backpack adv (using Win98) and there were so many problems with it. The trio came on very slowly. The game exited itself or froze up while playing. I'm not sure if it's b/c of Win98. The game itself is okay if there are so many bugs in the game. I rated this one a 3 stars for fun but 1 star for too many bugs.

Adventures Await!

Dora the Explorer Animal Adventures makes an excellent beginner game. The characters speak slowly, and the instructions are thorough, in my opinion probably a too comprehensive. For instance, after you sign-in, the characters introduce themselves, and they explain about the big storm. It takes them 2 long minutes! That's a lot of time. I've found it's easier for this age group to listen to short explanations, so they can get on with game. If they're having problems, further instruction is always welcomed. Fortunately, you can click the mouse and skip over the narration in the replay.

Dora the Explorer Animal Adventures is recommended for children 3 to 5-years. I think a 2½ year old could easily handle level 1 on this game, especially in the River Rapids Rescue game. This is my son's least favorite, because it's the least challenging. All you do is move the mouse and click somewhere within 6" vicinity, so Dora can jump over the logs in the river. The visual spotting games are fun for little ones too. Once the animals are discovered they put-on a silly performance that young children find amusing. For example, the Fruit Bat puts on a hat of fruit and dances. The Caimen stands up and brushes his teeth. My son actually laughs aloud.

The game offers lots of encouragement as well. For instance, Dora will shout "great idea," or Diego will say, "excelente." Just like the television series, the Fiesta Trio will play a little ditty at the end of each game. In our house, computer time is an earned privilege, thus some weeks he plays, while others he doesn't. When he does play, he's not allowed to sit at the computer for hours at a time, as his gaming time is limited. I like that my son instantly understood this game, so it's intuitive. I also appreciate the educational, and bilingual features. One could literally learn interesting facts about 2 dozen different animals. I'm not sure how far the game counts, but I know my 4-year old has collected at least 40 stars, because I heard him count to 40 in Spanish.

Bottom line, William enjoys the Dora the Explorer Animal Adventures game. Even though it's not his favorite computer game, he does request it. It think 3-year old children are the prime target market, but older children just starting to play computer games would enjoy it as well. I definitely think I got my money's worth!

We are now on our 2nd disc and both did not work in my computer which is just a few years old. Never had a problem with any other software. Stay away from this game!!!

More advanced than the age rages given, still good product.

This game was too advanced for my very computer-experienced daughter who is almost 4.

It is a great learning game, but definitely not appropriate in the age ranges given. A 5 or 6 year old would appreciate this much better.
