In Dora's Backpack Adventure you guide Dora, with her trusty companion Boots of course, not to mention the necessary Backpack through a set of standard obstacles to the library. The format follows the TV episode, not suprising perhaps since that is modelled on computer games!
There are three levels to play at; as far as I could tell each one introduces a little more Spanish into it. There is also a sticker book to do which provides endless entertainment in itself.
My daughter, who is three, loves it. She no longer watches Dora much but the enjoyment she gets mastering the mouse and being in control of her destiny is great. We only bring it out every now and then which keeps the replayability up.
A number of reviews complain it is too short and/or basic. Well it certainly isn't going to be much good past three but if you do all of the parts of the game, including the optional exploring, it can while a way an hour or more if your child has a good attention span. The reviews where it says two year olds found it too simple lead me to believe the two year old was not controlling the game themselves since it requires a reasonable dexterity.
All in all we find Dora enjoyable. We haven't noticed any performance issues but we do have a pretty powerful laptop. The game having to be in the CD drive doesn't bother me in the slightest.
In summary if your child is into Dora and hasn't advanced to harder computer games, this is great!
Just like the show

Just got this yesterday for our 3 yr old and it was terrific - just like the TV show. I had wondered why there were no "Dora" computer games when the show is so tailored to pointing and clicking and choosing what to do next. Two things I wish were different - they don't sing the whole song when they start on their trip to the library (Come on, vamanos, everybody let's go - they stop just before "Where are we going? -To the Lib-rar-y, yada yada yada) and I wish there were more adventures you can go on. You get just one path to follow to the library. VERY cute and a great game, even without the changes I would make.

Software is poor, tried on 3 different computers the cd won't run on any of them. Atari must know about the problem because the web site list what the computer does, but no solution to the problem. Its a waste of time and money.
For the price, we expected much more and it failed!

This game was no where near challenging enough for our 4 1/2 year old. He played it once and was bored with it. It may be more appropriate for <3.The work sheets are a waste of paper. All levels are easy, there is no challenge to the games. Very disappointed! Should be marketed to 2-3 year olds.

I was so disappointed with this game. Originally when I hear a DORA game was coming out, I was very excited. I have a 3 year old girl who loves DORA. Unfortunatly, there is no variation to this game and little challenge. She was bored with it in less than 15 minutes because she had already completed the BACKPACK ADVENTURE. From there you can go to the MAP and roam free...there is only one adventure on this CD. I expected this game to be more entertaining and fun.
Great game for toddlers!

If you child likes to play on the computer, and likes Dora, this is a great game for them!
My son just turned 3 and loves to play this game. After playing each individual game with him, he was able to play on his own. The different levels are a great feature. Most of the games deal with number recognition, so the lower the level, the less numbers it deals with.
There are also some print-outs to color, but not many to choose from.

We bought this game because my son enjoys Dora and the game specifically said it would work on the Mac. Well the game is great and works great on our PC, but we cannot get it to work properly on our Mac. There is a patch on the website which we have tried, but the game works "hit and miss". The problem is that the mouse does not align properly with what is on the screen. So, I would recommend the software but not for MacIntosh users.
Look, I am all done.

The overall design is great but there is only about 20 minutes of playtime. The game is very much like a TV show, you watched it and it's over.
Not worth the $20

My son who is 3 loves playing computer and is pretty advanced in using computer. This game is no challenge for him at all. While he plays it on a daily basis but only for a short period of time. For example one of the game is to click on swiper once he appears. Well, swiper always appears behind the same bush and stand there waiting for you to click on him. I found jumstart pre-school to be a much better program as far as being challenging and at the same time a learning program. There is a similar game on the jumpstart program about different shape coming down the slides and the program tells you a shape and you have to click on it but there are many of them coming at you and from different direction. Which makes the game more exciting and more challenging and at the same time learning about different shapes while having fun clicking away. this is definitevely for kids age 18 mth to 3. not from 3 to 5.

I bought this product because it specifically stated that is is supported Mac OS X 10.1.x and above. Turns out that there is a problem with the mouse tracking on OS X 10.2 that makes the game unusable. I went to the company's website for a patch only to find out there isn't one, and there will not be one. Their solution is to install it in 0S 9 and boot into OS 9 to play it. I checked for OS X support specifically to avoid such nonsense.
I am very disappointment in this product as a result and would recommend looking elsewhere for both Windows and Mac if a company such as this cannot properly fix their bugs. $15 wasted and one very unhappy Toddler.
