An average Role Playing Game

I had greater expectations of the Climax Team, coming from earlier games such as shining in the darkness, etc, I expected a wonderfully rich, enhanced experience. While the richness is there, the actual plot of the game and the almost complete lack of story whatsoever really shot this game in the foot before it got out of the gates. Like evolution, this game also has the random dungeon layouts, making it bsically a graphical M.U.D. (Multi-user-dungeon.) Basically a text based hack and slash world where one travels around, exploring and looking for treasure, wtih basically no plot involved. This may be good for some, but I appreciate games like Suikoden II, and a few of Squaresoft's games for giving me an actuall intellectual plotline to follow, as well as giving me the funky treasure and fabu eye-candy. Time stalkers' characters leave little to be desired. While some of the various designs were well done, I particualry love Rao (lion man), they severely lacked any sort of thick personality. Sword is bossy and arrogant, Rao tends to be more reserved, etc, but that is basically how far it goes. No real character developement to be found. Overall I would have liked the Climax team to almost completely forget about the random dungeons. I mean give me a break, it must have taken very little time at all to program the random algorithims, what did you all DO with the rest of your development time? Add some more depth and richness to your games, take a cue from Square or Konami. We LIKE depth.

well, if u liked zelda:ocarina of time, ull love this game. the graphics are good, and so is the story. the only problem with it is the fact that every time u enter a new dungeon, u start from level one. but thats cancelled out by all the good things

How anyone can give this title a solid 5stars is beyond me. This title is by far the worst RPG game ever created!!! "Time Stalkers" is everything gone wrong with an RPG, which had the potential of being a great title, if just a little more time and effort were put into the project. Dungeons are randomly picked, (which can be an either good or bad thing dependings on one's preference) can only carry 5 items when entering a dungeon (only level 1 weapons can be carried inside a dungeon since your character is started at level even time they enter a new) , and worst of all if you're defeated in a battle guess what, not only do have to start the entire dungeon from scratch, but you're also started back at level 1 and lose all of strong weapons which you had gathered during your voyage!! What were the creaters thinking?!! Not only that, but the list goes on and on!! Do not buy this title!! I'll make you want to play NES rpg titles!!! Which are better may I add, than this title!!

Time Stalkers has some awesome ideas behind it, but it has too many problems to really recommend above your standard RPG on the PlayStation. Currently, EGG is still the only real worthwhile RPG on the system, and it's of the action variety. I actually enjoyed Time Stalkers a bit more than Evolution, primarily due to the title's original ideas. I'd definitely recommend that you hold off your cash until the real role playing games hit the system.

Thoroughly enjoyable

Let's see, Diablo 1 & 2 made uber-leveling fun but did it matter? No. You gained levels only to have more powerful foes charge at you. So, what's the difference if you start at level 1 in each dungeon or if you walk in and have to fight enemies that are tougher anyway? You still gain skills that you get to keep, you gain items you get to keep, you gain allies you get to keep, you gain creatures you get to level up/train and keep. Anyone who can condemn this as a terrible RPG because of the leveling system in the game is a superficial, half-wit that's probably better off listening to their Britney Spears & Eminem whilst playing their fruity PS2.

This game has wonderful character design, colorful and original world settings, and a bevy of dungeon-stomping to be done. It's a great game! No, it doesn't have a stellar story but then neither did Diablo and you smacktards played that!

Very entertaining and great for all ages. I highly recommend this especially in light of the lack of Dreamcast RPG's.

One of the best RPG for the Dreamcast, EVER!

I've read quite a lot reviews on here, and some if not all, complain about the level 1 bit when leaving a dungeon. Well while at first it upset me, it was some hours later that I found it fun and just part of the game, instead of a problem. If all you want is to play some 'good' RPG *coughs* go play Grandia2, but if you want a one-of-kind RPG that actually makes you think and have fun while doing it, grab Timestalkers. Stick with it, and you'll see just how much fun this 'lame game' can be, and if anyone is curious, I still play this game even after all these years, and have yet to get tired of it. So those of you that _tried_ the game and didn't give it enough time..go back, play it, even if you think you hate it, give it another go. Timestalkers is a game that has to grow on you..and while yes Evolution 'n Grandia2 ARE great games, Timestalkers is a great game too, but you just have to play it more, to understand it! ^_-

I took a risk when I bought this game. I had no idea what it would be like, but I was pleasently surprised. This game surpased all of my expectations. The graphics are gorgeous, There's plenty of stuff to do, the characters are creative. The biggest problem with this game is that it's too short. And I have to say one thing to all those reviewers who said this wasn't a good game, stop being so critical, play the game as if you were just someone who bought it for fun. So, if you are a beggining to/or moderate RPG player, this is a game for you.

Timestalkers- I feel so Nautious

Timestalkers is the most pathetic attempt at an RPG I've ever seen. A boy and his Blob and the ROM Life's Battle are gaming miracles compared to this. First off, your levels restart every time you enter a new dungeon, and you can carry almost nothing into a dungeon. Games like this caused the Dreamcast to bomb.

We need to send Time Stalkers back to grade school to teach it about being a good game.

Buy it if you are feeling particullary retarted today. I hope this warning prevents you from making the same mistake I did. I would have killed for a review when I first got this game, I had to pay a lot since I got it when it first game out.

This was Sega's first RPG attempt on the Dreamcast, and like they say, "First is the worst".

Buy a miracle RPG like Skies of Arcadia or Shenmue instead.

P.S.-The guys who gave those kickin' reviews were Toys R Us employees trying to make you buy this game.

Worth a Rental, Perhaps a Purchase if it strikes your fancy.

I enjoyed Time Stalkers greatly, and while it is an okay game, it is not on par with most blue-blooded RPG's. The graphics were good, and so was the sound. Nothing terrible, nothing angelic. Each time you enter a dungeon, the dungeon changes, and the map is random. You also lose the ability to equip certain skills once you leave, and certain items as well. The reason for this, is that the more powerful abilities and treasure require high stat points to work properly -- your experience and stats are reset to base scores once you leave a dungeon, either by death and escape or by completion.

I had played Azure Dreams on the Playstation and loved it, and was told I would thus enjoy Time Stalkers. In Azure Dreams, you search random dungeons, but you also keep your stats when you leave. Your monsters also keep their levels. Time Stalkers is similar, but Azure Dreams is far superior, IMHO.

The story is interesting, but not captivating. The characters are actually somewhat annoying. You have no sympathy whatsoever for the main hero, who is for the most part, a jerk. Not even an antihero, Sword is rather disagreeable. Evolution was far better, comparitavely. I enjoyed it more than I did Time Stalkers, because I loved those characters. The story interested me, and I actually thought it was a great deal of fun. This game is too, but for such a short RPG the time sure drags on when you play it.

The VMU games are fun, but at the rate the VMU batteries burn and die, it makes the question of worth uncertain.

How long does it take to beat? I finished TimeStalkers in one rental; and that was without playing it non-stop. It is fun, mark my words, but replay value is limited in my opinion. Save your $ for Shen Mue and rent this one if you need some other RPG's to tide you over until the big guns are released on the Dreamcast.
