PROS: I have to say that this is the best RPG/FPS I've played since Fallout 1+2. The story and dialog is amazing and gripping, and the main story drags you along like a raft on whitewater rapids. The plot is fast paced, and I found myself completely absorbed in some of the combat. Having chosen to play as an Infiltrator, the action of moving forward, taking up position behind something, leaning out and firing a shot into someones head was adrenal in nature. Especially when there were several targets out at once. Some of the more amazing highlights in the story? Knocking out a rambling scientist via a punch to the schnozz, clocking a news reporter in the face, plugging a bullet into the skull (point blank) of a corporate stoogie (something I've always wanted to do in real life!), and making out with two seperate Asari ala Captain Kirk. You can't beat that kind of story action. A scene where you have to talk down a girl from commiting suicide actually touched me emotionally (which almost never happens), making me feel sorry for a polygonic "anthroporphic persona" (thanx Terry Pratchett!).
CONS: Hands down, it would have to be travel via the Mako on one of the numrous side-treks planetside. Not only does planet exploration quickly become formulaic and boring (one debris [probe], one anomaly, a coupla mineral deposits, and the main goal), ultimately it ended up becoming pointless and annoying. I found myself wasting time simply trying to find my way up or around impassable mountains, and if you happened to fall down into a crevice or gully, my camera spun wildly and I found myself looking at the bottom of the Mako from below (which is great if I was looking for an oil leak, or damage to the chassi). I would then spend the next minute or so turning around trying to reorient the camera so I see enough to manuveur out of the spot. After the 8th or so side-planet explored, I found myself bee-lining straight for the main goal and ignoring all else. It would help if Bioware gave some sort of incentive for completing the mineral quest (such as an upgrade bullet for your weapon made from a mix of rare mineral finds), the Asari writing quest (such as an exclusive Biotic amp), or the Prothean data disk quest (such as the triangulated location of a single powerful weapon), but xp is the only thing you'll come away with. Next time, Bioware, either make the mountains smaller, or give us a worthy gift for wasting our valuable gaming time.
Secondly, I have to say that I was somewhat disappointed with the selection of weapons/upgrades. While I can understand the weapons, I can't understand the lack of upgrades for the weapons. By the time I played through on Insane, I didn't bother even looking through what I picked up anymore.
My third complaint, which is minor, would be about NPC AI. I found that if I let either of my biotic users do as they pleased, they'd run right into the middle of a large group of Geth and get pummeled to death via the butt of a gun/rifle. These guys seemed to be only one that would do this.
DRM: When I bought this game, I have to admit that I was unaware of what DRM even was. Upon reading up on it, I have to say that I am disgusted with this practice. From what I understand, it started with Sony (big surprise there), and has quickly spread most of the big releases out there. What really disturbs me is the fact it limits placing the game onto your computer to three times. I don't know about others, but I like to buy games. This forces me to delete old games to make room for new games. At some point in the future, I inevitably decide to whip out and old game and replay it (recently Arcanuum, Fallout 1+2, and Tie Fighter). You mean to tell me that I can only do this three times? Was a load of crap! In the future, I -will- research to see if a game has this feature. If so, not only will I not buy it, I will go out of my way to download a hacked version and play it, even if the game sucked @ss.
Good, just not great

First of all, people need to realize that the extreme negative reviews are likely false. People were upset by the copy protection that was supposedly going to to be added to the PC version of this game, and lashed out by any means possible. The copy protection issues were widely taken care of prior to the game's release.
Overall, this was a fun game. It was time well spent. Was it the best rpg ever? No. In fact, coming from Bioware who also made the Baulder's Gate & Neverwinter Nights series, I found it to lack depth.
Point being:
If you're looking for a game to pass the time, this would suffice. It's worth the purchase price.

Check ALL the gaming review sites to get a LEGIT review of this most excellent game (see gamerankings, gametrailers, or IGN for starters). Please disregard the lame negative reviews here.
Install took about 8 minutes ... no problems. No need to keep the DVD in the computer with the on-line key check. No big deal. The graphics are outstanding and gameplay, storyline, and controls are excellent! I highly recommend this game.

This is a phenomenal game.
My only problem during installation is that I had to have account profiles turned off.
Excellent!

This is one of the better games. Be able to make choices and explore all of the game.
The only draw back is that no matter what you decide it does not effect the final outcome (this ia a minor draw back).

First of all, I want to respond to everyone talking about the Digital Media Rights, or DMR, stuff. Face it, this game is not an MMORPG, or any sort of game like that. You won't spend hundreds of hours playing this game, so I don't see any reason to cry about three installs (including a fourth one, which if you need, means you must be rich enough to be making upgrades so often to your PC in the first place). I don't know if it's me, but these reviews are for the game itself, not some DMR stuff. If you want to play down BioWare then go somewhere else. This is about the game itself. It shouldn't be given a 1-star just because you can only install it three times.
::Brief Overview (My Experience)::
This is one of those super fun "immerse yourself for twenty-ish hours of mega fun gaming" games. It took me around 20 hours to beat the game including doing most if not all of the side quests. The game does have a decent replay value because of the "achievements" system and the ability to unlock higher levels. Ultimately, though, it doesn't really unlock any bonus content or such. For those guys who like to beat RPGs 100% this is a very challenging game to play on the "Hardcore" and "Intense" modes. These modes really force you to use the Tactics HUD.
People say the game has lag issues?
I've played this game for over thirty hours, and NOT ONCE have I lagged or my screen has been even slightly sluggish (even in the biggest combat areas). I've read about many people getting jumps, but it hasn't happened for me. I guess that does mean if you run the right settings and your computer is capable enough to handle it, then you should be fine with no lags. My specs are Dual Core 3.00 GHz Intel Processor, 3 GB of Ram, and HD Radeon 9800 XT 512 Mb. I run at maxed out settings at 1680x1050 resolution and everything is fine.
::Pros::
Well, this adds to the list of the RPS, or Role-playing shooters, that I've played, and it is just fantastic.
Graphics: The graphics are quite excellent, especially considering the fact that it is just a port from the XBox.
Music: I love the music. It gives you that outer space feeling, like you're really out there.
Learning Curve: The game mechanics are taught fairly well in the beginning.
Science: All of this "Tech" and "Biotics" might seems confusing, but they do explain a fair amount of it through the game, and eventually you'll come to understand the two new concepts. It is very fun to use the special abilities that come with these classes.
::Cons::
My character bugged a couple times during cut scenes, where the option selection for dialogue would disappear. The event occurring only the couple times out of all of my game time isn't bad though.
Repetitive Side-quests/Buildings: This is probably my biggest disappointment, and the reason I gave it a 4-star rating for overall gameplay. Aside from the main missions, there are 10+ side quests that you can do, in which you must land into a world with your vehicle (the Mako) and explore and accomplish a quest, usually saving somebody or getting ambushed. The drawback here is that it gets quite repetitive. Although the terrain is different and sometimes it might be raining or snowing, it gets quite repetitive. At the end of exploring the world, you will always enter either a warehouse, bunker, or a mine. Yes, they only included THREE different level designs for 10+ side quests. So you'll basically be exploring the same buildings each time, only with a different situation and monster each time. Basically, during mid-game, the game can get very, very repetitive if you're trying to finish all of your side quests.
::Conclusion::
Get this game. It'll be worth every penny. I even bought one of the Mass Effect books after playing this game, and now I am definitely ready for the next game in the series to come out. I can't wait!
