I don't understand some of the reviewers. This is a good game ,once you get the hang of it. You gamers need to add some mods to your game, as one of the reviewers so stated. Go to the website and download some stuff, and you will change your mine. You can also go into the main folder and change some things. Its easy to do. Once you do these things , this can be one of the most entertaining game to play. It is for me. I have a Manowar, 3 battleships, and 3 crewmen that bodyguards me at all times.Hire about 4 people out of the taverns, look at their character refrences, look at your passenger tab, pick out 3 of the best ones and place them with you to help you fight in the jungle and all other places, and They are all professional swordsmen, gunmen, with a critical Hit. When your reputation falls to horrors of the high seas, no one will mess with you anyways., Plus you can't beat the graphics, especially the water, and ship details. There is a lot of ways you can play this game, so many , I can't even imagine. I would suggest to some of you gamers, go to the (pirates ahoy) WEBSITE, try to find potc cheat file called cm-pocch zip file, it's a small file about 11 KB you can download to your desktop, doubleclick the zip folder, and it will ask you where you want to extract the file to, extract the file to the correct path, by browsing to the bethesda folder under your hard drive whether it might be C drive, or D drive (highlighting >pirates of the carribean<), then you click ... yes to all... to the pirates main directory. You can make yourself invulnerable, and your ship, at any time you wish, by pressing y, get all the money you want by pressing I, go into another 1st person mode, shotgun mode by pressing u. This game is a lot better than Farcry, believe me, once you have added the proper files. Thank You. PS ALTHOUGH NAVIGATION COULD HAVE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROGRAMMED DIFFERENTLY.....NOW I ALMOST FORGOT TO TELL YOU WHEN YOU CHANGE THE FILES, YOU WILL HAVE TO START THE GAME OVER,AND WHEN YOU FIRST START, GET YOUR SWORD AND OTHER ITEMS,LEARN HOW TO FIGHT,YOU WILL WALK TO THE PORT AND SEE YOUR MANOWAR, you will be suprised. don't try to walk in the jungle when it is too dark, get a room in the tavern, stay in there for about 30 seconds, and it will be getting light out side, when you hit the enter key the places will be opening, the store, shipyard and townhall on some islands...... For the guy that is having trouble with the game loading, you might can do this, remove all of the game files including the folder from your hard drive, reinstall the game, reboot your computer, go to dxdiag turn your sound hardware tab slider to one fourth, the first notch. Make sure the deleted files are removed from the trash bin, then try it again, I bet it will load, if you have enough MEMORY.
Solid game if you are patient

Unfortunately, the instruction booklet is woefully slim for such a large, complex game. The result is that the game seems incredibly difficult at first. After stumbling across a few of the major controls that aren't even mentioned in the book (space bar allows you to land once you are in range of an island's coast; officers die quickly unless you keep them stocked with healing potion; tab bar allows you to see the entire archipelago instead of sailing endlessly in search of islands, etc). After getting the hang of it, though, there's a lot to love here - great storyline, audio terrific graphics, sinister missions and clever character interactions.

I have read some bad reviews and good reviews on this game before getting it..I have played it for about 3 weeks and completed the game...I think it was Great. The graphics, realism, sound, music score are superb. It is a nonlinear game with mini tasks to accomplish a main task. Definitely different from the 1st person shooter games I'm used to. The learning curve is extensive and you have to be very patient. The dialogue windows are corny but necessary. I recommend you read the manual twice and join GameSpot.com and get into their Pirates of Caribbean Forum....you'll pick up alot of tips. It's very important in the beginning to improve your skill points in Melee, accuracy and cannon....that's all I'll say on that. This game is definitely worth $19.99. Get it. Pirates of the Caribbean, despite all of the other reviews, is frankly the best RPG and pirate game i have ever played/heard of
Its great graphics go beyond that of any Xbox game. Its Islands look so real that my mom walked by the screen and did a double take. Aside from graphics, its plot is awesome (except that its not as much like the movie as i had hoped) You can control, buy, customize, and capture real ships. You can explore catacombs and jungles. At the end you can even raid an incan temple! You can build up your party and fleet and customize their/your abilities. In fact there is so much you can do, that i cand fit it in the 1000 word limit. The rest i have to say is that it may not work on some computers with POOR graphics cards (for those of u POTC haters) and that when i got it, i was amazed at how much i enjoyed it. I also have to say that im sorry for the people who cant play it because of bad computers because your missing the best computer game that i have ever played! so for all of you POTC lovers BUY THIS GAME!!! it will be more than worth your money

This game is pretty fun I have to say. Pretty open-ended, but I would have preferred for Bethesda to spend another month on the game and make it more Morrowind-style. What I mean by this is that it's pretty annoying to enter house after house and have doors locked all around you. It makes going into houses not even worth it.
For the people who say that this game is too difficult, I'm afraid I have to disagee. Perhaps they haven't learned to block and dodge (the latter of which is a necessity to learn in the mid-upper game due to the fact that the enemy's swords get high piercing abilities and can slash through your block easily).
Naval battles are also a lot of fun, though in the early game having a Lugger makes it impossible to duke it out with any ship, though your ship is fast so you can easily board bigger ships.
The level-up system is really nice I think. For each level you gain you get 2 skill points to level up various skills, and one ability point, which lets you get a special ability.
Now the bad parts. The game was rushed. It's very obvious. I still think incorporating PotC was a really bad move. All throughout the game there are spelling errors, spacing errors, and sometimes words are just downright missing! I expect Bethesda to jump on that immediately. Next is that the land battles start to get repetitive. There's nothing new about them. If I'm running to X town from X shore, or vice versa and I see people on the road, I immediately shoot them because I know they're going to be highwaymen.
There are also other things that bring down the quality of the game. I think another month or two in development would have made this a pirate-version of Morrowind, which would have made the game SO much better. Bethesda made a good game out of what could have been a terriffic game, which is sad.

Beautiful graphics for ship sailing but tedious and not very interesting role-playing. I think the developers made a lot of questionable design decisions and there's not enough movie tie in - that's for sure. If you're waiting for a game that captures the adventure and thrill of being a pirate, Atari has announced the remake of Sid Meyers Pirates. This game is still -to this day even with all the flashy, first person shooters, etc. on the market, one of the greatest games of all time! So if you're selective about your pirate's games wait for sid meyers great pirates to come out, but if you can buy more then one pirate game then I'd say Pirates of the Caribbean is probably worth the money...or wait 6 months and get it on sale.

Salvation has arrived! To all of those who believe that this game is not worthy of any merit, you should swab the decks! It is incredibly sad that Disney had to come along and wreck the beautiful Sea Dogs 2 party, releasing a game that isn't finished - but all hope is not lost. The game is extremely buggy, but underneath all those bugs is *gasp* Sea Dogs 2. The game is still extremely fun to play, cruising around the Caribbean looting merchany ships and plundering the many isles in the expanse of sea. To say that this game is a waste of time would be unfounded, and the modders over in the original Sea Dogs forums have already made great strides in the improvement of the gameplay and other bugs, and in a couple more weeks, will have an outstanding game. Look in the forums at the original Sea Dogs website for more information. The mods have mainly fixed gameplay issues - such as replacing the shotty control system which you have no option of changing in game. So don't throw this one to Davey Jones' Locker - It will make you say Arrr to your hearts content.

I found this game to be one of the most difficult, most poorly documented and least intuitive games I ever played.
You start off the game with a crewmember to lead you through the start of the game. From there, you continue on your own. There is no primer on how to sail a ship. There is a minimal trainer on sword fighting but little feedback on how you're doing so you can modify your actions.
After getting my ship sunk in a storm twice, getting sunk by random ships attacking me three times (including just showing up at my home port)and getting no feedback or instruction on how to survive those events or how to avoid them, I gave up and quit the game.
Beautiful Game

Just an incredible game as far as graphics are concerned. I've never seen anything like it. The 3D detail is amazing. The colors are rich and contrasting; this game is a work of graphic art.
Being able to explore an environtment of something like seven hugely detailed islands is the other thing about this game that stands out to me. It takes a long time to see everything!
Yeah, it's darn hard to get used to the controls, but once you do, things are a lot of fun.
Get the game. Pirates of the Caribbean rocks!
