I will confess that I did not play the full game, but instead played only about forty minutes of the free demo. I found it to be a little "primitive" actually, and some of the graphics looked every bit of nine years old. The gameplay had some silly contrivances, like putting a "headstone" down where you "die" each time. A much better game where you're gang-rushed by enemies and have to use all your twitch-gamer reflexes is the first Painkiller.
With so many other spectacular new games coming out now, like Call of Duty 4 and Crysis, I just can't see spending money or time on a game like Hellgate: London. Truly, it's not to be seriously considered to be in the same league with the others in any way I can think of.
Very repetive

Pros:
Graphics = 5/5
Gameplay = 5/5
Downsides: Buggy, had to restart more than once because my character became trapped in a wall or on a rock. The levels all start to look the same very quickly... The layout of the map may vary slighly, but the room look like the same room you have been wandering through the couple hours. The enemy look good and it is a challenging game.
Many compare this to 3D version of Diablo. I think that is fair, like Diablo all the dungeons start to look the same. The monsters only change by variance of colors at times. There is even a reference to Wart in Diablo 2, so the delevopers were obviously influenced by it.
I don't play many games... I finish even fewer, I finished this... Bugs and all... It was a painful experience at times, but it was a pretty fun game... And that is really the important part, just buggy games aggravate me... :)

Deleting all of the negative reviews will not save this game. The setting is boring, the game play is ok. I wonder if they managed to fix all of the bugs. But i don't care to find out as i stopped playing it after lvl 20 as every single map looks the same and the game kept randomly crashing.
Good already, but way to go

Among really few games that can keep me play for more than 1 month. Really interesting and im still having a lot of fun. Bugs are annoying, but FSS is trying hard to fix them bit by bit.
Bleh...just bleh.

I'll start off by saying I know MMO's have problems at launch, but these one's are terrible. Making the game highly irritating to play in multiplayer. 90% of the time I couldn't even see my party when they were in the same zone. You have to step out (zone) and step back in to be able to see you party members. If you subscribe to the game, you pick up loads of random junk for loot. Some of the quests put items in your inventory, and when you finish the quest it leaves the item(which you can't drop, so you're stuck with it in your inventory).The graphics aren't great compared to other games, even cranked up all the way. The load times are bad. The game has horrid memory leaks. Seem to get randomly disconnected at times. Graphical glitches. One level looks just like the next, with the same game play over and over and over. Oh, and if you mess up your characters skills, you get to make another character and start from scratch as there is no reset of skills. So you get to enjoy the repetitive game play AGAIN! over and over and over......
If you played Oblivion, this will seem like a 2002 game

Circa 2002 graphics and character models that look nothing like the quality in the cut-scene movies (think Unreal2); you can only configure a few of the controls; no voice acting on most dialog (you read and flip pages); boring linear levels that are not even atmospheric or spooky in 3rd person; lame AI. I guess if you like fiddling with complicated character attributes and inventory this might be for you. This will be in the clearance $19.99 bin in about 2 months.
Having a Blast. Must buy

Been playing all weekend the single player mode as a Guardian and as a Marksman one is hack and slash the other is more strategy shooting.
The mods equipment weapons quests are all fun and entertaining.
Just makes you want to play a little longer. " baby let me play one more quest" "let me craft one more weapon" .
The graphics are beautiful and maybe a little repetitive.
Can't wait to go home and finish the next quests to get my new sword to modify it and upgrade it to go kill some more demons to get my next quest to get my new........ etc etc etc.........

1st off I tried this demo and thought it only ok, but after going forth and buying it off of faith, I have to say it REALLY grows on you fast and has more in depth once you learn all its details. Basically, I was a Diablo fanboy, along with stuff like Titans Quest, Oblivion, Bards tale, MMORPG titles galore, etc. This game takes the basics of what you liked about Diablo 2 LOD & added a nice sci-fi balance along with the option to go 1st person shooter. True, no LAN play was a let down but the free internet (with option of paying for extras) was a nice makeup for it.. Too much to say about this without going on & on so I will cut it short to say its WELL WORTH the money and you'll soon find your addicted!! With the ability to max lvl at 100, I know I'm pleased!

let me say starting this off that the people that wrote the reviews for 3 and under there reasons are flawed. first off i have vista since release. i had absolutly no problem installing it. i did have to download a huge graphic card update that was a whoping 122kb. the game itself has what you need for what ever your play style is weather it by 1st or 3rd person. the story line is also a plus. i am still yet to see it really drop off. weapons and armor look outstanding. the game has only crashed on me once. the multi-player function is nice. it is like playing on closed b net again. you cant hack there. i have not done the pay part, so i really cant comment on that featur. but i am having plenty of fun playing the non play. you all play toghter anyway. if you liked diablo, diablo 2, deus-ex play styles you will love this game. oh there is a special apperance by warts leg witch you get in one of the first quests. you will like it. the only down fall some might have to give it 4 stars is first 4 or 5 lvls are a bit slow action to get you used to game for newbs to the rpg world.
Don't buy this yet but will be a good game

I got to play the game for several days and had a real good time with it so don't base everything on the demo. This will be a 4 star game for me BUT....
never should have been released with as many issues as ppl are having so give it a month or two then buy it. I can't even play it til they fix the bug that wont let me and many others even sign in.
