Gears of War is an awesome game in either of its two formats. Anyone who has a PC that is capable of running this game, I would highly recommend it.

Good game, not for windows.

I've played the game on xbox 360 and its pretty neat. Unfurtunately the game has become unplayable on my pc, as well as many others according to the forums. I have tried every solution posible and havent been able to play it on my win vista, even though the game claims as a game for Windows. So my recomendation for u is tha u save bur 50 dollars instead on giving it away to microsoft.

Incredible

THIS GAME IS STUNNING. The graphics are out of this world for the PC. The action is great, even though you can guess at times what is going to happen next. The easy level for me is very difficult and may not be for the REAL gamer. You start out looking for another group of soldiers that home base lost contact with. In the process of looking for these soldiers, you come across some weird characters that you have to not only defend yourself, but also the team. I am running a duo2 core 3.4 Intel processor and the game starts off loading slow, but once the game is done loading, each level after that loads pretty fast. I have not completed the game yet and know for a fact from a co-worker that I am not even half way through.

Great Game, But Not for Windows

This game is very fun and really has a lot of non stop action, but it's not for Windows. It is a really sloppy port of the XBOX360. If you have played this on the XBOX360, then this game will waste your money. They added some new content, but not really worth buying. Epic also is very lousy with support for the game. They have released two patches, but this game really stutters pretty badly on my dual core rig, which runs games like Crysis on high settings like water.

Just don't get this for Windows, or if like me, try for another title like Bioshock 2 or Fallout 3. They are better titles and really keep you into the game. They also have better support.

Another Note: This game requires that you sign up for Games for Windows Live to save you progress. That's another reason to consider before buying Gears of Wars

Bugs and repitition

The first problem with this game is that you need to sign into LIVE to save any progress in single player mode. If anything happens to your Live ID you loose your game. At least when it's saved on your hard drive you have the option of backing up any game progress and can restored it if anything happens.

But most of all it wasn't that good of a game. I was first attracted to it because your blood splattered on the monitor when you got shot. As it turns out, not enough to make the game good. I bought it at a higer price than the $29 but wouldn't pay that if I had to do it again.

Console port with a few extras.

Gears of War for PC is basiclly a console port with a few more extra content added onto the 5th act. Just like the console version, this is an amazing game. The cover and shooting system is extremely fun and online play is addicting. The extra content added onto the levels is cool but not amazing. I have not experienced framerate/save game issues unlike what other reviewers said, although when i got the game it did take a long time to update because of the games for windows live bugging out on me so i had to find the update manually on the internet. Other than installation, it's the same solid fun game as it was on the console. The only thing I didn't like is the ranked/social/live playlist crap, theres not really that much people that play the pc version why can't there just be 1 playlist.

Good game, but better on Xbox 360

This is a good PC game but it plays better on an Xbox 360.
I am running 64bit Vista with an AMD 5000+ Black Edition processor, 4GB of 800Mhz dual channel RAM, 2 160GB SATA HDD's stripped, and 2 XFX 8600GT XXX edition PCI-E video card in SLI config. There are only games installed in this instance of Windows. With all of this I still have issues with studdering while running the game on mostly medium and low settings. Online play is good, but I have issues finding people to play with within a reasonable time frame. Even with the extra content, I think that the Xbox 360 version is better.

duck.. fire fire fire... game over. RELOAD CHECKPOINT and wait one minute.... run duck fire fire... opps... RELOAD CHECKPOINT and wait some more. run run run... duck... fire... RELOAD...

While this is a fun game for the most part, the checkpoints are few and far between. Unless you've mastered the game, you spend almost an equal amount of time playing as you do for the game to reload. This is on the medium level and from someone who is a pretty good game player. Now if you play it extra careful by frequently ducking and not taking too many risks then you'll stay alive longer and have less restores. For someone who likes to jump out in the middle and kick butt, you're going to be doing a lot of dying, which I guess is the point of this kind of game, but still it would be nice if you could save it at anytime or have an option to pick the checkpoint system or not. This checkpoint system ruins the game if you ask me. One frustrating point is the level where you defend a base, after 10 minutes of fighting a hole opens up and three boomers start attacking. One hit from them and you're dead with no second chances. Some of these levels take wayyy too long to get through as a result. Due to the frustration and boredom of repeating everything again and again, on some of these difficult levels, I have to take a break and play the game later. It shouldn't feel like work to play a game!

the finest shooting game i ever laid my hands on. control is smooth if your not lagging and the experience is phenomenal. if you like the ability to act like your in a real war situation, where you WONT be jumping around like a idiot like how you do in counter strike cuz your gonna get shot!. One of the few things i like about this game is that I can bait enemies and have them come to me, then i flank around them and BAM!(im talking multi player) direct shot in the body with a shot gun sends there body to several dozen pieces on the concrete floor. there is countless strategies, don't just run out and start killing things But this is not a game for campers, since the screen only focus on the area your looking at. now you have a vulnerability to get shot if someone comes from behind you and your camping for the other enemy to fall for your trap. im guessing you can, you just wont be to happy with the results after couple online plays lol.

Console Garbage

Gears of War has brief moments of fun, punctuated by long periods of boredom and frustration. The game is quite short, but artificially lengthened with obnoxious save "checkpoints" that make you perform the same actions and watch the same cutscenes over and over and over again. Most of the challenge of this game comes from fighting the awkward and imprecise controls.
