Good game, but better on Xbox 360

This is a good PC game but it plays better on an Xbox 360.
I am running 64bit Vista with an AMD 5000+ Black Edition processor, 4GB of 800Mhz dual channel RAM, 2 160GB SATA HDD's stripped, and 2 XFX 8600GT XXX edition PCI-E video card in SLI config. There are only games installed in this instance of Windows. With all of this I still have issues with studdering while running the game on mostly medium and low settings. Online play is good, but I have issues finding people to play with within a reasonable time frame. Even with the extra content, I think that the Xbox 360 version is better.

I am an experienced and well known on line first person shooter gamer. I have just read over 30 forums and over 200 entries..about the complete incompetence of Epic and Microsoft to release this game without resolving the computer crash problems. I will ask for a complete refund. Clearly if you take the time to read about this situation, this game release may go down as one of the most embarrassing products upon which Microsoft placed its name. Microsoft reps in the forums admit the problem. For example, the computer freezes, including a complete closedown of video cards, after a "checkpoint" has been reached; in other words, when you complete a level. I have a powerful gaming computer, but i read gamers with high end (+$5,000) units freezing up. You have been warned, which these comments only vaguely did for me when I asked for this game as a gift from a good friend.
Pure Consolitus

I cannot believe Epic shovelled this game onto the PC without customising ANYTHING for the PC player. This is not a shooter, it's a third person action console game with a shaky, epilepsy inducing camera movement that makes you want to puke.
I felt like I was fighting a game controller when trying to play on the mouse/keyboard setup and instead of being in control of the main player, you get the impression you are inside a floating camera trying to keep up with the guy. The viewpoint is warped and stupid.
Sorry Epic, the term "FPS" goes hand in hand with "Shooter". And this game is a 3D overhyped, overrated console jumping game.
Save your money, don't reward console gaming companies for shovelling consolitus over to us.
Blame Microsoft... Not Epic

Every problem that is happening with this game is directly linked to Windows Live being part of the game. Once players get their game up and running they have ZERO problems. A few in game stuttering problems have already been addressed and solutions have been provided. Other than that, the crashing at boot, and crashing after a few minutes of game play is ALL MICROSOFT'S FAULT.
Action Packed Port

I'm always hesitant about ports to PC, but Gear of War was done pretty well. The controls feel appropriate with a keyboard/mouse, and I didn't experience any of the technical issues other have discussed. In fact, technically the only thing I wished they had done was to open anti-aliasing for all users, not just Vista owners.
The game itself is a great experience. The action is awesome as the fire fights are intense, and feels like a thrilling cinematic experience. The atmosphere is well-designed with laudable graphics, and contributes to the feel of the degraded world.
I'm a little mixed about the cover feature. I really don't *need* for the software to help me take cover, but it the animations and perspectives look pretty neat.
Can't say much about multiplayer, as I don't see very many people online. This is too bad, because coop play would be awesome as your friendly AI is retarded, and only useful to soak up enemy fire.
Things I didn't like were the inability to quick-save/load, and the some of the voice acting, which sounded totally awkward and forced.

This game by far has the most intense gameplay as the action is pretty much nonstop as well as a developed plotline which may remain dull or not complicated enough to some-- it entangles the point of a video game to the fullest of its potential with amazing scenery detail, textures, and even graphics.
Over all i give this game a 10/10

The great thing about these kind of games is that the mechanics, graphics, gameplay are so original and fun it dosen't go out of style (even though th PC version came way afterwards). It plays great on a keyboard and mouse and it's a classic addition to any gamers library.
Exciting game, only disapointment is that it ends

Before my review I will like to show my system specs:
Dell dimension E521( I made some changes LOL)
AMD Athlon 3200+ 2.00 Ghz
3GB RAM
Windows XP SP2
Nvidia XFX Geforce 8600GTXXX (256MB)
Before I even bought this game I downloaded and installed the latest version of Games for Windows live, I have had this game for 2weeks now and no technical issues.
This game is amazing, I havent had any technical issues with it and the gameplay is phenomenal. I haven't had this much fun with a game since Half Life 2, you actually feel like you are in charge of Alpha squad. The graphics are great if you have the right hardware (With updated drivers of course). This is truly a great game, I didnt beat it just because I wanted to see the ending or because I wanted to be able to say "I beat Gears" I beat this game because the players get immersed in the gameplay, the environments and even the characters of the game.
The only complaint I have is not about the game per se but the LIVE package which you get free for a month and have to pay for after its expiration. I think it is an unfair deal that takes away from the game itself, online gameplay is fun and addicting and to be honest, I am contemplating the renewal of my Live package. Although the online component of the multiplayer aspect of Gears is by subscription, users can play Gears of War for free on a LAN configuration.
This is a game I will recommend to everyone, I bought this game for the full price plus tax at an EB games and I have no regrets.

This is a really fun game to play. It has a learning curve for the cover system. I can't believe that my game saves disappeared twice. The first time I was close to the beginning so it didn't bother me much, but the second time I was very far into the game. I even installed the patch 1.1. I'm not going to play through this game again until it is fixed. Wait for a while to buy this game. Many people are posting about this problem. I don't think the game saves to your hard drive. You can't backup or download game saves. It is saved on a website using some stupid microsoft online crap.

After waiting 1 year after this monster came out and hearing how fantastic it was from my friends, I finally got to play it on my pc. This game is nothing short of gaming cinematic genius; thanks epic. It is a game that should have been made a long time ago, even before the existence of Doom 3. The controls are much more precise than those on the 360, that and the graphics on the Unreal Engine 3 have been significantly boosted. Much of Unreal Tournament 3's graphics are identical to the visuals seen in Gears for PC now. The campaign is very dynamic and laden with high tension, the enemies are actually worthy of being feared. The only problems with this rendition of Gears is the AI difficulty and some minor glitches when approaching walls. Be sure to have a beefy system before you think of buying this master piece. My 8600 GTS still has frequent lag fits when entering some of the more character-populated areas of the game. Have fun and be sure to bring a splash guard in case of flying entrails and blood.
