4 star average and a low price gold box deal usually equal a done deal for me. I bought this game the last time they had it on sale, and I feel like I was ripped off.
The name made me a bit weary with "Prologue" but who really releases demos at full game price? I bought it thinking it would be a new, fun installment in the series with all of the other unlockable content and adjustability, but it is not!
You can't switch from first person mode.
You do not have even half the cars available.
There are only a few tracks.
The medal ceremony music is atrocious, and you cannot skip it.
The load times between garage, dealership, and events are annoying.
Don't buy it unless you are a collector and need this ridiculous fraction of a game.

Having played previous GT games, I was excited for this one. The graphics are pretty cool and it's fun to play now that I have the rumble controller. It just seems to be missing something. I hate to say it, but I almost like PGR4 for the Xbox better. The controls seem stiff. It's trying to be too real of a car simulator. I prefer that games still be games. If I want to drive a car for real, then I can go get in my own and go for a drive.
Another issue I have is you have to fully exit out of races and re-enter the racing menus as if you just turned on the game. It should be a bit more seamless than that. If I just finished race C-5, then there should be an option to move on to C-6 without having to fully exit to the main menu and go through all the hoops again.
I also did not like that it took like an hour to 'install' the game. It said on the back of the box the only space required was about 5.5mb and it doesn't take an hour to install 5.5mb. This made it quite frustrating to have to wait so long just to get started playing.
Overall I give it 3 out 5 for the great graphics.
Oops, they did it again...

GT is a game renouned for it's realism. Except, there's no crash damage. Again! With the massive storage capacity of Blu-Ray discs, why couldn't they have incorporated crash damage into the game? It makes no sense to leave that out. Even GTAIV has crash damage and it's not focused on racing. How about some variable weather too?
Aside from those gripes, it looks great on screen.

Being a car fan with a ps3 I had to get this game and I must say i'm glad I did, with the selection of cars since this is only a big type of demo version of the acuall game (release in Sep. 2008) it only has a fraction of the cars but still a lot of them and at least it has FERRARIS!!!!!
Unfortunatly there are not ast many tracks as there are cars in fact theres only 6 tracks but you can do a reverse mode or a portion of the track in arcade mode.
as you start out you have no car but you have money to buy on there are a couple of cars that you can afford to choose from but pick wisely. then the only race your allowed in are the C class races. as you finnish those you recieve a car. you can not sale cars that you earn as prizes, this is different from the past GT games, then you move to the B and A class races, these are difficult without a faster car. once you finnish the A class then you unlock the S class, these are the really hard races, they have restrictions and penalties and even though it seems you didn't commit a crime on the track the game thinks you did, and you must slow down for a matter of seconds. The penalties are inconsistant, when you think it will penalize you, it doesn't, then when you think your doing good, it throughs a penalty in your face, this makes it harder. After this difficult challenge you unlock a Ferrari F2007 f1 car or if you can't seem to finnish the racesyou can save up $2 million for it. Then, when you feel your ready and your car is good enough, you can enjoy yourself on a rather fun online play!!!!!!!!
The BEST DRIVING SIMULATOR EVER!

Really, let me tell you that this is not a game "per-se"... it really is a driving simulator.. I owned a Nissan 350 Fairlady (real life), and when I drove this car on GT5, it brought back some memories. It's as real as it gets..
Do NOT doubt to buy this sim.. I really recomend it, as an "amateur race car driver", it really helps on your driving skills.. believe it, or not.
Worth every penny, can't wait to get the full version, and I will.
JUST BUY THIS SIM, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!
Beautiful, but unfortuantely thats where the amazement stops

I am a fan of racing games, mostly arcade racers, but i'd figure id give this a shot because of the big hype. Needless to say, I don't regret picking it up, because there will be days where I feel like I need a challenge, this game will give it to me. This game is very difficult (I am playing on the professional settings). Phyisics of the cars are great, and its fun to learn how to drive each car, because its different for each, but this game is almost too hard and requires 100% PURE perfection on every race, which sometimes the race can take up to 6 mins + which means at 5 minutes, if you screw up (which is very likely) you're going to have to do it ALL over again, because very rarely do you get another chance to redeem yourself. Now needless to say, I don't think i'm horrible at this game, I honestly think its too difficult. Lack of car damage also makes this game unrealistic, it looks like alot of the times, your just playing bumper cars with no damage.
I've played the online portion and was disapointed by the lag problems (cars pop out of no where) and the fact there is no Headseat support. If the game is online, you should incorperate headset support because the hole reason to play online is to interact with others to have an enjoyable experience (IMO).
This game is strictly for the fans of the GT series.
Looks good. Plays bad.

I agree with the review about the horrible AI and no car damage. To add to that, here are 3 more problems I had with this game.
1. Game progression. This game operates on a credit system where you have to win prize money in races to buy better cars. This is coupled with race events that are very particular about cars that you are allowed to use. There are races where all cars are permitted, but a good portion where you don't have any of the cars permitted. This means that you will end up racing the all-car events over and over again to get enough money to buy the cars to get into the specific-car events. Furthermore, race events are grouped into 3 classes depending on difficulty. The problem is that since you can't move into the next class without completing ALL races in the current class, you're further stuck in reracing certain events to buy the cars you need to race for EACH and EVERY event in a class before moving on. Kinda fascist if you think about it. Same thing for online racing. After playing for a night, I was still not able to compete online because I didn't own any of the cars allowed in any of the races. Frustrating to the nth degree.
2. This is more an extension of the no-damage complaint. When you drive by and hit a car, it sort of just slides around you. There are no spinouts or pileups. Feels like those old arcade racers on the Atari. They just go back on their predetermined track. That means winning a race consists of avoiding contact to maintain the highest top speed.
3. Perhaps the biggest problem: the cars just don't feel like they're going fast. Maybe it has to do with the graphics, the sound effects, or the handling. It pisses you off when your car overshoots a curve and spins out in the sand when it feels like you're not going that fast (despite what the speedometer tells you).
This effort just shows me that the designers were not of the right mindset when this game was made. Graphics and realism over gameplay and fun. One of the ugliest deaths for any well-intended game.

First off, I'd like to say that amazon.com delivered my game 4 days early!
The game:
-Took a while to get started, loading various updates and game data
-The new menu is a little unfamiliar, what with the scroll bar instead of the geo layout everyone is accustomed to seeing in previous versions
-35k credits to get into your initial ride, which isn't nearly enough considering I wanted my first set of wheels to be a Bavarian flavor. You can't mod any of your cars starting out, so go ahead and spend as much of your budget as possible on a quality ride...don't bother saving your scratch for chips and boost. It only took me a couple of races to recoup what I spent on the Integra Type-R
-Sound is top notch through 5.1 Dolby
-If you can't play this game in HD, you might wanna wait until you upgrade your TV...you won't do the graphics justice otherwise
-Can't really comment on the split-screen since there's nobody here but me
-Menu music is still a little too grocery-store tempo, but the race music makes up for it...and the first place finish music is very '80s hair band (think Winger)
Final Thoughts,
I've only been playing it a few hours, but I can already tell I'll be spending many a sunny day, indoors, playing GT5P. Aces!!
Incomplete game = incomplte experience

Positives:
Great graphics in solo play. Good sounds.
Negatives:
Online game-play is buggy and lags. Not many tracks. Difficult challenges need to be completed to have all options available.
I liked Burnout Paradise a lot more for on-line playing.

Excellent graphics, precise response, and very challenging. When I first got it, I spent 5 straight hours playing.
