The WORST Game Save your money

I am one of the bigest fans of Mortal Kombat and when GOLD came out for Dreamcast I thought It would be the best. But I have been playing Soul Calibur ever since I got my Dreamcast and I was expecting somthing great from Mortal Kombat. The graphics are the same as they where before the Dreamcast Midway did not waste any time on this game. Save your Money and buy "Soul Calibur".

(I can not give it zero starts so I guess one is enough)

Once again there's people who don't know how to review games out there.Mortal Kombat Gold is one of those games you can review only to it's past Mortal Kombat games.The graphics are top notch,silky smooth,no slowdown,the characters are detailed just as the originals.It plays like a Mortal Kombat game...what else can you say.But the critics want to compare it the fighting games of today...you can't compare a early 90's fighting game to a 21st century fighting game.To sum all up,bad day at the job,want to let go some stress,plug in Mortal Kombat Gold and start to pound some heads.

Mortal Kombat Gold is like a Mortal Kambat 4 for Dreamcast.

Mortal Kombat Gold is a very good game, but don't expect it to be a Mortal Kombat 5. They should have just called the game Mortal Kombat 4, because it is just like this one. Except in this one the graphics are better, the sound is better, there are more characters, and more levels. But it still has exactly the same plot as Mk4. The new characters aren't very good, and the modes are exactly the same as 4. While it has about 3 new levels, the rest are from Mortal Kombat 4. If you don't have Mortal Kombat 4, I would recommend getting this. But it is basically another Mortal Kombat 4 with some new features.

This game is ok but It could have been a lot better. One of the best of the Mortal Kombat but it too much like MK 4.

MKG isn't a bad game...For Supernintendo. The graphics are alright, until you see their shadows are stick people. The stories are extremely weak. The gameplay is redundant. The videos at the end of the game play like you just drew them. It's really bad.

The only very redeeming value of this game are the move. The are something else. However, they cannot save the game.

Every so often I like to play this game, but not because it's great, just because my Sega doesn't work, and that's the only other copy of MK I have.

When will the makers of mk realize that you cant make an identical game to inferior systems and still expect people to buy it. If you're gonna make mk for the dc, make it spectacular. I got rid of the 64 because I wasn't totally pleased with the game selection and quality. I see now that there will never be another mk game that i'll be buying for a system. Oh yeah, and i'm begging someone to make the game just that much harder. It's not even fun on two player. But once again, thank the man upstairs for refunds and exchanges.

Yes, this is a lot like Mortal Kombat 4, but I enjoyed the new characters and the new fighting grounds. I never had Mortal Kombat 4, and when I got my Dreamcast, I figured I'd go with this one. It is fun with good graphics, but the shadows could have been a lot better (they are little stick figures). But, all the blood and gore returns to this title. It's a good game, but if you have Mortal Kombat 4, then don't bother to buy it.

Midway, in an-all out effort to publish as many fighting games as humanly possible has given the world Mortal Kombat Gold, an "update" to the mildly popular MK4 seen in arcades everywhere a couple of years ago.

To warrant this title's port to the DC, Midway included some "new" characters. Cyrax, Mileena, Kitana, Baraka and Kung Lao are all standing by to be beheaded at your leisure. I'll admit, it was fun to play as my old favorite Baraka, but I found his return to be a bit lackluster.

None of the fatalities you'll see from the new guys are original, all are merely 3D updates of MK2 and MK3. I found Cyrax's "blowing up the world" move terribly lame, as will you. And suprisingly, Baraka's victims don't bleed when he impales them. Otherwise, you'll find all of the characters present in the home games from last year, including the console-only Goro. Also, savvy players can unlock Noob Saibot and Sektor, via secret codes (don't tell).

Let's get one thing straight. Graphic-wise, this game mirrors the arcade perfectly. That's one smooth box of chips Sega's got. The character models are back to the 3,000-polygon count (up from the PS and N64's dozen or so polygons per fighter) and the colors are bright and vibrant, with no pixelization. However, there's a few oddball things that stand out. For example, for all of its 22nd-century power, the Dreamcast can't deliver shadows that don't look like bouncing boxes strung together? I don't think so, Midway. Plus, you'll see several of the same animations again and again and again.

Gameplay also mirrors the previous home releases. Jump, combo, special move, jump, combo fatality. The AI isn't particularly bright, especially on the stages where rocks and other debris litter the ground.

Sound-wise, the game is adequate. The new characters use recycled sounds from old MK games, as do the new stages (also taken from old games.)

All in all, if you haven't played MK4, and you have a Dreamcast, you may enjoy this title. The action is swift and pretty, and there's lots of fun blood and mutilations (parents beware.) Otherwise, this title is old news that could have benefitted from a little more development time.

Mortal Kombat enters the realm of 3D

Don't let the title confuse you, Mortal Kombat Gold is essentially Mortal Kombat 4 with a couple of subtle new features. The main difference between Mortal Kombat Gold and the previous Mortal Kombat games is that it's done with 3D polygonal graphics. The gameplay remains relatively the same, except now each character has their own weapon which can be drawn. The only other major difference is that Midway decided to exclude the button tap combos from this version. You have the ability to perform basic button tap combos, but they are short (only about 3-5 hits) and have little variation between each character. Most of the old Mortal Kombat favorites are back in some form or another...Lui Kang, Sub Zero, Scorpion, Cyrax, Katana, ect., plus several new characters as well. Fatalities have also returned and as one might expect, and they are as gruesome as ever presented in the 3rd dimension. The only real fault in Mortal Kombat Gold is the same one that has plagued the series from the beginning...the shallow gameplay compared to other fighting games, and the horribly [bad] AI in the one player mode. Even with the shiny new 3D graphics and weapons, Mortal Kombat 4/Gold is still at it's heart just Mortal Kombat 3. If you have become tired of the same old Mortal Kombat formula over the years, you can pass up Mortal Kombat Gold and not miss much. If you still love Mortal Kombat and are looking for a new way to play and rip your opponents to shreds, by all means this is your game.

When I saw this game in a Dreamcast magazine, I thought it would be cool. But It was just like Mortal Kombat 4. And I don't like Mortal Kombat 4 very mutch. So the only new things about this game are the few new characters, the few new places to fight, and the kombat theater.(which is just the endings of the game you've seen.)All that stuff gets boring very quickly. So I'm glad I rented this game, or else I'd be stuck with it.
