Amazing.

This is my first Devil May Cry game and god damn this is one sweet game. I have played through Ninja Gaiden on Normal and Hard, and after playing the demo of the game on the marketplace I went out and bought this game today. Lets have a look.

STORY:
This is a little confusing for me as none of the previous games are explained. Basically theres a church session going on and Dante crashes the party by killing the priest. Everyone is like what the heck and Nero and Dante get in a huge fight. You go from the town into a HUGE castle and you try to uncover the mysteries of what is going on in the city.

CONTROLS:
Honestly they are very tight except for the lock-on button. They should have made it right trigger instead of right bumper for ease of use. You will have to learn to quickly lock-on/off in order to succeed in this game as well as switch styles back and forth with Dante (you play as him halfway through the game). Also dodge is a little ehhhhhhhhh too.

GAMEPLAY:
Extremely intense. Boss battles are loads of fun and the puzzles aren't mind-bogglingly hard. Some of the platforming is tedious (the waterfall cavern thing after the city level comes to mind, Mission 03 I think?). The Devil Bringer grappling parts where you have to do it back to back 7 or 8 times gets very tricky and irritating when combined with the pretty irritating static camera angles. The combat is visceral and intense and your jaw will drop to the floor at some of the moves you can pull off (especially as Dante... @_@). If you liked Ninja Gaiden on the PS3 or the XBOX, you will LOVE the gameplay of this game. You can buy items with the red orbs you find scattered around the castle, or learn new abilities/skills by using the Pride Souls you earn by getting good ratings on missions and stuff. A lot of moves to learn here. Combos are very fun to make and it is very easy to learn how to string combos from devil bringer to guns to swords and back and forth again, but it is very hard to master doing so.

GRAPHICS/PERFORMANCE:
Very very good texture work both indoors and outdoors, in combat and out of combat. Runs at a very smooth 60fps and this game looks jaw-dropping on an HDTV. Very consistent. Never saw any visual lag at all whatsoever.

SOUND:
Voiceovers are a little pathetic. The voice of the researcher guy in Mission 06 was pretty melodramatic. Also some of Nero's one-liners are cheesy ("SLAM DUNK!!" comes to mind). The slashing and gunshots and footsteps and roars are all very well done though and I salute the developer for that.

REPLAYABILITY:
There are hidden missions scattered ALL over the game and there are hidden life gems and stuff around the castle. There is also the Devil Hunter difficulty which is more difficult but I hear you get to play around more with Dante so I will check that out when I get there. The achievements are difficult to get so if you are looking for a game to get an easy 1000 gamerscore on you are looking at the wrong game. Levels are replayable to get better ratings on them (and Devil Hunter points to submit to the Capcom servers and stuff). There is a lot of stuff to do here after you beat the game.

VERDICT:
If you are an action game fan or another person like me waiting for a game to tide you over till Ninja Gaiden II comes out in April, do yourself a favor and buy this game, you will love it. If you like any kind of hack-n-slash games or any action game at all you will like this game.

I will post updates soon on the game as I am not completely done with it yet.

Nothin' to brag about

After the insanely hard DMC 1 & 3, this game kinda lacks, The game didn't
get interesting till you played as Dante! The story was dull, the action was dull and repetitive, the few boss fights they had were okay, and as said earlier the cool stuff doesn't come till you play as Dante: the boss powerups, the 5 fighting styles and the usual humor and action that
only come with dante! If you are die hard DMC,buy the game, other than that, I would just rent it!

Devil made me cry

Now I must admit first off that I have not played any of the previous DMC games. But if this game is any indication ... I don't want to.

Pros:
-The graphics and cinematics were pretty good.
-The story was interesting and the voice acting I'd say was slightly above average.

Cons:
-Gameplay was pretty dull. Combinations were a pain to execute and often didn't chain well.
-The skill system was unsatisfying. It's based on a purchasing system. You use a type of currency you collect from completing missions to buy more upgrades. However you can refund the upgrades you purchase and move your points around. Essentially you have to "choose" what you want to specialize in. Maybe it's just me but I prefer becoming more awesome all around as I progress through a game and would rather not have to pick one thing I'm good at. Or at least have enough points to spread the love around if you know what I mean.
-The boss fights were pretty simplistic. If I didn't figure out the trick to beating them right away, then it only took a few attack cycles to pick out their openings. Most bosses are only vulnerable at certain times so it mostly feels like a waiting game.
-The environments are pretty dull and not interactive in the least. The maps are hard to read and not very helpful at all.

I played through once just to say I beat it and no other reason. I give it a 2 out of 5 ... and no I won't be playing DMC5. :P

Another series addition

The Devil May Cry series is notorious for it's pace of game play. Not often can one fulfill their ADD/multi-tasking craving with a video game but once again, DMC pulls it off.

The game plays rather similar to the previous ones. Flashy and incredibly fluid movements. Nero plays a lot like Dante but a bit more constricted. While his system is very interesting, he works as more of a "knock your enemy down and press B" to win in any fight. Don't get me wrong, the game play as Nero is still quite fun and actually my preference, but they could have done something a little more diverse.

Playing as Dante is a blast. You can change to any of the four stances (Trickster, Gun Slinger, Blade Master and Royal Guard) at any time during game play. You'd expect it to be the same old thing playing him like in the other games but with the new weapons established and the quick combos you can pull (teleport, slash, smash, teleport, blast) it makes it all the more interesting.

Over all, I give the game a four point five, simply due to the fact that Capcom kept the same looping rock music for all fights in the game; and the game is rather short (I beat it in ten hours but I was a huge DMC3 addict). This game is a definite "must own" for ones action-game library.

A Fun Shooter

This game was pretty fun, I hadn't played the other DMC games, so I was a little behind on the story, but was able to figure most of it out through the game. It was a great game that I was able to get into pretty easily, the only problem was that the controls got repetitive, and a little boring. That however changes, when you switch characters, and begin playing the second part as Dante, who has alot more moves in his arsenal. If you like shooters, and don't mind backtracking levels, this game is great. It gets a 4/5 because of the controls for the first part of the game.

Awesome!!!
