First off, the graphics are unbelievable. For those who have not bought Soul Reaver watch how the environments change when going between worlds. As I soon found out by playing the game it's the little things that make this game so awesome. For example, when fighting off the enemy you can impale them with a sword or you can throw them onto spiked objects that hang from the wall. Furthermore, you can set them on fire and the list goes on and on. The environments that you go through are beautifully landscaped with different things to make it look so real. Also, the game isn't too hard where you get so frustrated you want to give up and at the same time it's hard enough to keep you interested. Overall, the game is a must buy if you like adventure games. There is so much that I have left out; you should at the absolute least rent it to find out how great this game is. As I had mentioned earlier, pay attention to the little things you can do in the game because it makes the game that much more enjoyable to play!

Okay, let's start off by saying that I am not one of these reviewers who will just sit here and say "Wow, it was so awesome". Instead, let me tell you why this game is worthy of your purchase. First of all, the graphics are a fine achievment on the Dreamcast. Some very good character animation and wisely chosen color and lighting to give the world a dark atmosphere. Next, the gameplay. The control in the game is challenging to master, but when done you are given a wide area of movements to make. You can accomplish many things as Raziel. The fighting in the game is fun and innovative. Unlike most games, you can not just keep hitting the bad guy until they are dead, you must find a way to kill them whether it be by spearing them, burning or some other gruesome attack. Another aspect is the story. I would rate this as an okay story as it deals well with Raziel and his past, giving an insight into his beginnings and how he must exact revenge on Kain. So to sum up I would say this game is well balanced and presents a challenge in it's puzzles for all gamers. It is enjoyable and addictive. I would recommend your purchase of this game at the soonest time possible.

If you are looking for a great involving adventure game this is it. The graphics are some of the best I have ever seen on any system and the story is the best that I've experienced since Zelda 64. The game just sucks you in, I've actually caught myself planning my day around times I can play. The puzzles are well done and the levels give you a real sense of discovery. It gives the game a good flow, it never gets boring. I bought this game to pass the time till Resident Evil:code veronica, now I wonder If Resident Evil will be better. Bottom line: THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST GAMES ON THE DREAMCAST! IT BELONGS IN YOUR COLLECTION!

This was the first game that I bought for the dreamcast and it is something else. This game has to be THE smoothest game I have ever played on any platform, including PC. You just have to see how smooth this game moves. Almost flawless. There have been a few times with minor (very minor) slowdown, but you can be guaranteed that absolute mayhem is going on if this game slows down.
The graphics, they are alright. I bet if this game had been developed exclusively for PC or dreamcast the graphics would be stunning. The textures are jaw dropping, but the world itself seems a little "blocky". But, I have to say that the FMV sequence in the beginning is the clearest, smoothest (can I say smooth enough? no) that I have seen on a console. The PSX FMV's look good, but they are nowhere near this crisp.
The gameplay is good, except I am still trying to get used to the controller (which is a little, uh, different). The reaction time is great because the framerate is moving so fast that right when you press the button the action takes place. You're not waiting for the machine to catch up to the frame that you supposedly pressed the button at. Although the lag time on any other system could probably be measured in thousandths of a second, and is therefore very trivial, I noticed nonetheless. But this has more to do with the system itself, back to the game...
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver has what I am looking for in an action/adventure. Solid control, a MASSIVE world to explore, a great soundtrack, and an engaging story with quality voice acting. Mix that together with a gothic twist and an evil feel to the game, and I say five stars.
Be careful, you're bound to get spooked from some creature jumping from around a corner. I find myself jumping a little in my chair when I play at night...
This game is just plain awesome

Soul Reaver is a great game. As you start out you are stunned with some of the best graphics i have ever seen and an interesting story line. You are Raziel the fallen, the discraced, the dead. Kain has thrown you into a lake and turned you into a ghost. The nice thing is the game explains itself so you dont have to spend alot of time reading the instruction manual. Another thing is the actuall gameplay. It is interesting your ability to pick up weapons and finally get the soul reaver fused to your body. The combat is thrilling and the site of sticking a metal pole through a vampire is enough for me to buy the game. There are verious other methods of slaying such as inflaming, exploding, impaling, and vaporizing. The bosses may be too easy and the rest of the game is pretty easy but the sight of sticking metal through the first boss or being swatted by kain is awesome. You cant go wrong with this game.

I began enjoying this genre probably like everyone else, when I first played Tomb Raider. LOK:SL is light years ahead of that game, or any other game in this genre. The controller interface does take some getting used to, but does eventually become second nature. The game itself is superb. The graphics are outstanding and the story, dramatic. The gameplay is really where this game shines. It is an adventure, so puzzle solving skills are crucial. You have to shift between the Material and Spectral Plains to solve some of the puzzles. This may seem simple, but figuring out exactly when to do this is the challenge. Moving blocks around is also a big part of this game, but its not mindless. You actually have to think about how, where and what orientation the blocks have to be moved in. The blocks can even be hidden, and the only clue that you need to find a box is an empty space on your screen where it looks like a box should go. There are too many types of enemies to mention. To increase your health, you have to use the multiple weapons available in the environment to destroy your opponents. Throwing them into fire, water or jagged objects works just as well. Once dead, you have to "inhale" your fallen foe's soul. Very cool. This is a thinking man's game, and even if you are skilled with these types of adventure games, you will find challenges a plenty. Overall with the graphics, gameplay and I forget to mention eerie music, this game is the top of the list for this genre on any platform.

SR IS DREAMCAST'S BEST TITLE TO DATE. REGARDLESS OF BEING A IDENTICAL PORT OF THE PLAYSTATION VERSION, THIS GAME STANDS OUT, SURPASSING TITLES SUCH AS TOMB RAIDER. SOUL REAVER PUSHES THE DREAMCAST'S GRAPHICAL POWER TO THE LIMIT, THE GAMPLAY IS MUCH FASTER AND CLEANER THAN THE PLAYSTATION VERSION AND THE LOAD TIMES, FORGET IT, THERE ARE NONE! THE SHIFTING FROM THE PLANES IS FLAWLESS AND FAST. THE GRAPHICS ARE SO MUCH CLEANER THAT I WAS EASILY ABLE TO FIND ITEMS AND A GLYPH WHICH I HAD PREVIOUSLY FAILED TO LOCATE ON THE PLAYSTATION VERSION. FINNALY, A WORTHY TITLE FOR DREAMCAST.

If you thought that the Tomb Raider games were fun, then you're in for a real treat! Soul Reaver is packed with action, puzzles, and some of the sharpest graphics yet on the Dreamcast! Plenty of places to explore, skills to be learned, and items to be found! All this, and you will find that the game itself has virtually no load time! Definately a must-have for any Dreamcast owner!
