THIS GAME HAS GREAT GRAPHICS AND GREAT GAME PLAY. THE ONLY DOWN SIDE IS THAT THE ENDING IS CHEESY, AND THE BOSSES ARE TO EASY TO BEAT. THIS GAME IS ONLY A PART ONE, SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO WAIT UNTIL PART TWO COMES OUT TO PLAY THIS.
Great looking but. . .

Yeah it looks incredible, the voice acting really sets the standard for all other games and the camera angles are tolerable (which is good for this type of game) but. . .
How often can you move block, flip switch, repeat. . . before you get tired of playing? Plus, the levels are designed such that you're forced to do A LOT of backtracking, which adds to the "size" of the game without adding to the real size of the game.
Love or even like Tomb Raider? Get this game.
Tired of blocks and swithches? Avoid this game because great graphics do not a game make.
Much better than the Playstation Version

If you liked Soul Reaver on the Playstation, then you will definitely like it on the Dreamcast. Enhanced graphics, faster gameplay, and new gameplay elements make this a great game. For those who aren't familiar with Soul Reaver, take Tomb Raider and put a darker edge on it.
Eye candy meets good gameplay Part2

This is the new standard in platform gaming graphics! Colorful, hi-res, and a wow-factor of about 10 once you've seen them in person. The dreamcast needed a game like this as far as this genre is concerned, Soul Reeaver is THE game to buy right now. The game takes a little while to really get used to the controls, but once you've got them down you can move about fairly accurately. The voice acting is top-notch stuff, and really adds to the atmosphere. On the down side, the music changes occur abruptly at times and fighting enemies with the soul reaver weapon can be tricky to perfect. Also, I was dissapointed that the game took me less than half of the time stated on the back of the cd case in order to find everything and finish it. A little misleading, I think, but mark my words... once you've finished it, you'll want more!
Just a little disappointed

This game has definitely great graphics, the game play is terrific and the interaction with the surroundings is excellent (you can pick up torches, rocks and weapons of all kind).
However, after awhile it is boring to push blocks, go back on your steps and the fighting part is really easy. Most of the time is spent looking for where to go.
But even with those flaws I had a great experience playing with it, it just did not meet all of my expectations. It is a little like going to see a movie after having heard everyone say how good it is, you always end up disappointed. Especially they are better games out there now (i.e. Code Veronica...)
A very good game...

...That really takes advantage of the DreamCast's processing power. This game runs very smoothly at 60 frames per second. Much much better than the psx version. Sound is also much better than the psx. However, the psx is an inferior system and one would expect these minimal improvements.
Character models have really low poly counts with hi res textures. This means you see really clear, but blocky people and characters running around and it comes across as a game where the developers just threw better hi-res textures on their old cash cow game (in the 'biz they call it "slapping some new makeup on the wh0re and sending him back out"). Game play is fluid and easy to get into. The effects (lighting, fire, magic, warping from one reality to another) look very slick. The voice acting is well above average but the cut scenes can get a bit boring after seeing a dozen or so. Overall, LOKSR is a very cool-looking, somewhat long (25-30 hrs), mature, somewhat difficult adventure game that really takes advantage of the dreamcasts processing power.
One of the best games to come to the Dreamcast

First off, the graphics are unbelievable. For those who have not bought Soul Reaver watch how the environments change when going between worlds. As I soon found out by playing the game it's the little things that make this game so awesome. For example, when fighting off the enemy you can impale them with a sword or you can throw them onto spiked objects that hang from the wall. Furthermore, you can set them on fire and the list goes on and on. The environments that you go through are beautifully landscaped with different things to make it look so real. Also, the game isn't too hard where you get so frustrated you want to give up and at the same time it's hard enough to keep you interested. Overall, the game is a must buy if you like adventure games. There is so much that I have left out; you should at the absolute least rent it to find out how great this game is. As I had mentioned earlier, pay attention to the little things you can do in the game because it makes the game that much more enjoyable to play!

Okay, let's start off by saying that I am not one of these reviewers who will just sit here and say "Wow, it was so awesome". Instead, let me tell you why this game is worthy of your purchase. First of all, the graphics are a fine achievment on the Dreamcast. Some very good character animation and wisely chosen color and lighting to give the world a dark atmosphere. Next, the gameplay. The control in the game is challenging to master, but when done you are given a wide area of movements to make. You can accomplish many things as Raziel. The fighting in the game is fun and innovative. Unlike most games, you can not just keep hitting the bad guy until they are dead, you must find a way to kill them whether it be by spearing them, burning or some other gruesome attack. Another aspect is the story. I would rate this as an okay story as it deals well with Raziel and his past, giving an insight into his beginnings and how he must exact revenge on Kain. So to sum up I would say this game is well balanced and presents a challenge in it's puzzles for all gamers. It is enjoyable and addictive. I would recommend your purchase of this game at the soonest time possible.

If you are looking for a great involving adventure game this is it. The graphics are some of the best I have ever seen on any system and the story is the best that I've experienced since Zelda 64. The game just sucks you in, I've actually caught myself planning my day around times I can play. The puzzles are well done and the levels give you a real sense of discovery. It gives the game a good flow, it never gets boring. I bought this game to pass the time till Resident Evil:code veronica, now I wonder If Resident Evil will be better. Bottom line: THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST GAMES ON THE DREAMCAST! IT BELONGS IN YOUR COLLECTION!

This was the first game that I bought for the dreamcast and it is something else. This game has to be THE smoothest game I have ever played on any platform, including PC. You just have to see how smooth this game moves. Almost flawless. There have been a few times with minor (very minor) slowdown, but you can be guaranteed that absolute mayhem is going on if this game slows down.
The graphics, they are alright. I bet if this game had been developed exclusively for PC or dreamcast the graphics would be stunning. The textures are jaw dropping, but the world itself seems a little "blocky". But, I have to say that the FMV sequence in the beginning is the clearest, smoothest (can I say smooth enough? no) that I have seen on a console. The PSX FMV's look good, but they are nowhere near this crisp.
The gameplay is good, except I am still trying to get used to the controller (which is a little, uh, different). The reaction time is great because the framerate is moving so fast that right when you press the button the action takes place. You're not waiting for the machine to catch up to the frame that you supposedly pressed the button at. Although the lag time on any other system could probably be measured in thousandths of a second, and is therefore very trivial, I noticed nonetheless. But this has more to do with the system itself, back to the game...
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver has what I am looking for in an action/adventure. Solid control, a MASSIVE world to explore, a great soundtrack, and an engaging story with quality voice acting. Mix that together with a gothic twist and an evil feel to the game, and I say five stars.
Be careful, you're bound to get spooked from some creature jumping from around a corner. I find myself jumping a little in my chair when I play at night...
