SOUL REAVER IS THE DEFINITIVE GAME FOR ALL OF US TIRED OF HANGING ON TO VIDEOGAMES WITH GREAT VISUAL/PLAYING EFFECTS BUT MISSING A DECENT STORY LINE. THIS GAME WILL ABSORB YOUR SYNAPSES WITH ITS TALE OF BROTHERHOOD, REVERENCE, BETRAYAL & REVENGE. THE STORY IS ABOUT RAZIEL: A VAMPIRE THAT FALLS OUT OF THE FAVOR OF HIS LORD: CAIN; RAZIEL DESTINY IS TO BE CAST INTO THE LAKE OF THE DEAD, BY HIS OWN BROTHERS, FOR ETERNAL DAMNATION... AFTER AN ETERNITY OF PAIN, HE IS FINALLY "RESURECTED" BY THE ELDER GOD AND START HIS JOURNEY TO AVENGE HIMSELF. HIS ONLY AIM IS CAIN DESTRUCTION.... RAZIEL HAS SEVERAL ABILITIES AND THE BEST PART IS THAT WHEN YOU START THE GAME YOU ARE UNABLE FOR INSTANCE TO CLIMB WALL OR TO SWIM: YOU MUST EARN THIS ABILITIES AND OTHERS AS YOU PLAY ALONG. THIS MAKES THE PLAYING ALL THE MORE CHALLENGING AND INTERESTING. WHAT REALLY BLEW MY MIND WAS THE ATMOSFERE THE PROGRAMMERS MANAGED TO CRAM INTO THIS GAME: I WAS HOOKED FROM START TO END AND THIS THANK TO LOADS OF SPLENDID ANIMATIONS ALL ALONG THE WAY. I EASELY TRANFERED MYSELF FULLY INTO THE GAME AND SPENT MANY A SLEEPLESS NIGHT ENJOING IT, TO THE POINT THAT WHEN I FINISHED IT I WAS REALLY DISAPPOINTED: NOT BECAUSE OF THE GAME BUT BECAUSE THE DREAM CAME TO THE END AND I DID NOT WANT TO WAKE UP FROM IT. NOW I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT DREAM CRYSTAL DINAMICS & EIDOS INTERACTIVE WILL OBLIGE ME WITH. LONG LIVE RAZIEL: KING AND REAVER OF SOULS....

Just a little disappointed

This game has definitely great graphics, the game play is terrific and the interaction with the surroundings is excellent (you can pick up torches, rocks and weapons of all kind).

However, after awhile it is boring to push blocks, go back on your steps and the fighting part is really easy. Most of the time is spent looking for where to go.

But even with those flaws I had a great experience playing with it, it just did not meet all of my expectations. It is a little like going to see a movie after having heard everyone say how good it is, you always end up disappointed. Especially they are better games out there now (i.e. Code Veronica...)

A modern day classic

While the Dreamcast may be long dead, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver still stands as one of the best PS1 to DC ports of the system's history. The graphics are still as awe inspiring as they were on it's 32-bit cousin, and the control is even tighter utilizing all of the DC controler's capabilities. Not to mention that this game featured some of the finest voice acting to ever grace a video game; the cut scenes are seamlessly done and it's almost like a graphic novel come to life. All in all, if you've never played the first Soul Reaver game you are sadly missing out. It is better than last year's sequel, and if you own a Dreamcast it is a must own. Also recommended is Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage for the Dreamcast which also features voice actors from Soul Reaver.

This is the best Dreamcast game. Ever. Period.

Everything about this game is superbly done....graphics, playability, control....unbelievable.

The PSX version (never played it) was good from what I heard, so at the time I had just gotten a Dreamcast and I noticed this game was out for it....so I picked it up and i was instantly sucked in to the world of Nosgoth. You don't believe me, just get to the edge of the pit Raziel was thrown into in the opening cinema and look down. Unreal!!!

Not only does this game look good, but it plays like a dream....no quibbles whatsoever about the control, except the occasional mess-up trying to claw into blocks trying to move them around. Actually, if this game had a flaw- that would be the only one....the tedious nature of the many blocks puzzles....especially in the level with those dad-gum white spider enemies....!

The difficulty of the game is right up there too....nothing to turn your nose up at, you have to be on your toes.

As for the length of the game? Depending on if you try to get all the glyphs and health pieces....expect to take upwards of 25 hours to beat this game. I'm a perfectionist, so the first time through this one I took a good 35 hours....

Overall, 10 out of 10. I rarely give a perfect score....so this is definitely one game you can't pass up on....and now for less than 10 bucks, it sure is a steal!

This game is surely the best of it's style. I actually thougt the same thing when i played the playstation version, but this one is definetely the true version of this fantastic game. In the dreamcast, Raziel's moviments are much faster and more realistic. The graphics are completely improved showing the 128-bit full power. There are almost 40 hours of continuous gameplay full of incredible creatures and great puzzles. You must switch from physical world to material world and vice versa to get througt all these 40 hours.Everytime you kill a boss, you receive new powers such as climbing skills, light swords among others. This is the best game of the style and it's surely a must-have buy it if you have the chance.

Lots of violence to open the game and the movie clips are great. The game control becomes natural after just a few minutes. The progress of the game slows when sometimes you don't know where to go next.The bosses are incredible but it takes some time to figure out how to beat them. A strategy guide will take care of that. Get this game if you like Resident Evil...and get Kain 2 Overall the best game of its kind.

I am really not into adventure games, reason being that some of them are too long, and I get bored easily (reason that I love sports games, you know when they are over). But this game just sucked me in. The voice actors of the game are awsome, these guys and gals are hollywood quality. The story is very intriging and addicting you just want to know what is going to happen next. The game is fairly long and there are many places to explore. I would reccoment this game to anybody (EXCEPT CHILDREN: THIS GAME DOES CONTAIN SOME VIOLENCE (IMPALING, BURNING ALIVE, ETC..) AND BLOOD AND GUTS SO I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS GAME TO YOUNGER CHILDREN SO PARENTS PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT THE RATING). The only problem witht the game is the camara it sometimes does things you don't want it to you can always fix it but when you are in the middle of being attacked by a vampire it's hard to fix the camara and aviod being killed. Most of the puzzles are pretty easy but there are some difficult ones. Well overall this game is highly recommended.

Soul Reaver is the Best! You get to use spells, weapons, Even your bare hands! this game combinds a thrilling story, lots of action, and practicly imposible puzzles. If you are going to buy it make shure you have a save pack or it's crap. If it were up to me I'd give it 10 stars!

Welcomed Suprise

I had never even heard of this game before. I have almost every Dreamcast game and I am always hungry for more. When I saw this game on the shelf, I thought to myself, "This looks O.K." When I took this game home and started playing it, I was mezmerized. From the opening story, to the gameplay, it has got to be the best Dreamcast Adventure Game ever made. Never has there been a game that is so original, exciting and spooky. Between impaling enemies, crossing between two worlds and feeding off of the souls of your enemies this game can not be beat. BUY THIS GAME!
